June 7, 20197 yr Let’s not kid ourselves here over the wage. Do people forget we have guys like Bakayoko, Drinkwater, Zapacosta and so on who are on fortunes yet provide very little to the team? We risked losing CHO and now have to pay the price that his ceiling has now reached, that’s football and we make enough money to do it. We have spent far more money on wages on several players who have done nothing for us, this boy is young and his talent is obvious. Every signing in football is a gamble but this is one we need to take
June 7, 20197 yr He's going to get a package around 100k a week elsewhere if he's sold, so obscene as it is, it's how the market is. Assume he signs, I'm more worried how much that injury will take out of him physically, some never recovers the speed after this kind of injury.

I would understand your worry about a players speed after this type of injury, but CHO is far too young to have that effect him currently. Absolutely no chance in that to effect him because he is still growing

The best players in football (Messi, Ronaldo etc..) are paid similar to the top players in baseball and NBA as you mentioned. You cant compare a younf 18 year old prospect to the sports top earners The highest earning rookie to start in the NBA in the 18/19 season starts on $8.1 million. The total value of his 5 year contract is 56.8 mil. That was for a guy who had not played a single game of professional basketball. Callum is on peanuts compared to American athletes.

Not compared to baseball which is what you were trying to do before. Also you fail to mention this rookie earns more than most other nba players anyway.

The average Salary in the NBA is $6.4M. That money skews heavily towards the top 2 or 3 players on a team, but isn't that what the club is expecting out of Hudson-Odoi? I was the one talking about baseball. The money in sports is insane. So insane that 100K per week will hardly show up on the balance sheet for a team like Chelsea whose gross earnings were nearly 500M in 2017/18. The early money in baseball is starting to catch up to other sports though. Draft picks are getting bigger money as signing bonuses right out of the gate. The salaries are so astronomical later on, teams do things like this... https://www.nytimes.com/2019/04/02/sports/ronald-acuna-contract-extension-atlanta-braves.html Ronald Acuna / Callum Hudson-Odoi is actually a very good comparison. Acuna hasn't even played a full season in the league yet. The overall point I'm trying to make is that 100K per week isn't much of a gamble for Chelsea, especially for one of the most valuable assets in all of the world right now... young, talented footballers. It would be much, much more harmful to lose him next summer on a free.
June 8, 20197 yr Can’t wait to see CHO #10 sticking the ball right on to Tammy’s head next season while RLC looks on in amazement and Hazard secretly wishes he was still here... A man can dream!

With Reece James maurading down the flanks from full back and Mason Mount following up, with Frank and Jody watching on from the sidelines as the new young Chelsea take the prem by storm, and the bridge gets some atmosphere and is a cross between Fratton Park ( minus that idiot with the bell) and Dortmunds stadium. sh*t I've overslept again!!
June 8, 20197 yr I think it's a bit distasteful to talk about CHO and James leading the charge when they're both out with serious and possibly career threatening injuries. At this moment in time we should be just keeping our fngers crossed they make a full recovery.

I'm sure people on this forum just find reasons to moan.

Yes, if they were fit and well. But talk of them bombing down the wings when they might even play top level football again is not what we should be thinking about at the mo. I broke my wrist 5 years ago and was told i might only get back 60% of mobilty back, and that was just for regular day to day stuff, nevermind fit for top class sport. They've got way worse injuries, so we shouldn't talk like they've stubbed a toe and be back in a while.

We've just lost our best player and a few posters are fantasizing about a brighter future. There isnt 1 media report that has even speculated that and of their injuries are career threatening. Do you think these lads would be offended if you said to them you cant wait to see them scoring goals for chelsea again?

Everybody has different experiences, so no need to be alarmist.

June 8, 20197 yr He didn't sign any new contract yet. He can leave for free soon enough. That's the problem, the only problem. Like I care if he signs for 80k or 100k it's all the same, a young lad getting a lot of money because he has big potential, the only problem is not signing a new contract at all, so no point in complaining that the world is an unfair place or whatever...

There was stuff about this kind of injury being career threatening/losing pace and mobility and Loftus's injury being even worse than CHO's.

I dont think either player had a full rupture in the way koscielny did. Bad injury but not career changing.

Only then we will find out if he's going to make a full recovery. My wrist healed well. Got 100% strength back and can do everything I used to do. The only difference is I cannot bend my hand back as far as I once could. That makes zero difference to my every day life, but that kind of damage to a footballers foot would be huge, so you can see how touch and go this is for CHO and RLC. Anyway, fingers and toes crossed for all three of our young players.
