People are harsh on Emerson, he's had some shockers but don't lump him in with the likes of Bakayoko. Am I the only one who remembers his good games? He started the 2019 final and got an assist and we won. Good enough to play and win the euro 2020 final. At his best he is better than Werner going forward on the wing.

Werner's finishing is atrocious but let's not get carried away here. He does a lot of other good stuff.

Agreed. I heard he makes the tea at half-time.

I wonder why people are so desperate to get Emerson back. I understand the club's position, they've got too many LBs on the books as it is (Chilwell, Alonso, Emerson, Baba Rahman, Kenedy, Maatsen) and unless it's a clear uprgade, there's no point in adding another albatross to our wage bill (Digne). Not easy to get a good deal midseason so they're trying to bring back our loanee, I get it. But while it's a sensible move from the business point of view, there's a reason why Emerson is on loan in the first place, he was our third choice in the pecking order and Chilwell's injury doesn't change the fact that he's not a good option. He's been with us for three-and-a-half seasons before moving to France and has never really been able to prove his worth.

Obviously bringing him back is better than doing nothing because Alonso can't play all the time and we have a lot of games to come, but ideally we need someone who's an upgrade on Alonso and will compete with Chilwell, but I guess it will have to wait till summer.

Emerson is without a shadow of doubt a much better wingback than Alonso. He left because we couldn't go into the season with three senior leftbacks in the squad and no one wanted Alonso.

Emerson can run. Having him here now would have made a huge difference. There is a reason why the club have desperately tried to get him back.

Players who don't play (for us) are always better right?

There is a reason he wasn't ahead of Alonso in all these years with us.

Alonso is undoubtedly a liability defensively and as slow as a Woody Allen film but Emerson is no better. The longer he is away the more people forget how sh*te he was. There would be no notable improvement to the team if we brought him back other than giving us two left sided defenders to blame for everything that wasn't Lukaku's fault.

Disagree Emerson hasn't been perfect for us but no one has, he played well in the games he was used under Tuchel last season which was like 2. Not to mention in big games like the Europa League final vs the gunners he had a decent game and supplied the assist for the opening goal

Emerson keeps getting better the more he doesn't play for us.

Every time Alonso had a rough period the calls for Emerson to start begin only for him to play a few games and quickly show why he doesn't play even over Alonso.

I'd rather get Maatsen back if we are picking from player's on our books. Atleast with him there's the hope something might happen, with Emerson we're getting an even worse player than the one we're so desperate to replace.

Emerson is sh*t, but playing Alonso for every game for the rest of the season is also sh*t.

Then recall Maatsen.

I agree. Maatsen would be my choice. He has looked decent the few times he had a chance to play for the first team too.

However I have seen little to no talk about Maatsen in this window so it seems highly unlikely this will happen. At this point I don't think we will bring in another LWB either on loan or via a recall.

Tbh I'm not totally sold on him but atleast with him there's some hope he may explode in the team and if he doesn't then Chilwell slots back in with little damage done. We know what we're going to get with Emerson and it's just not going to cut it.

My ideal solution is in the market. Well I say that I don't have a specific name in mind but there's a LB from Stuttgart we've been linked with that anyone who I've asked think is the real deal so maybe him.

What do you think of Tagliafico? Supposedly he is available at a low price as he is near end of contract.

Borna Sosa? I'd sign him for that name alone.

The 2019 version in a heartbeat, but there must be a reason he's lost his place to Blind.

Hmmm with everyone leaving perhaps keeping him should be one of our priorities. Christensen and Rudiger are gone, Alonso wants to leave and Azpilicueta's future is still undecided.

He could be a good rotation option for Chilwell and we know he can play as fullback which would mean we only need one more wingback/fullback in the summer even if we keep Sterling.

I just saw a biopic on the Italian team winning the European championships. Remember, Emerson started the final match, and played fairly well.  We should definitely hold onto him.

Definitely and he is a much better fit for the system compared to Alonso. We should be looking to strengthen the starting XI this window, not the subs. I would be pretty happy just with James, Sterling, Chilwell and Emerson.

He did play well in both the final and the semi final. Still seen enough of him in 3 plus years at Chelsea to know he’s not good enough even as a back up imo, alonso has always been a better option.

I can counter this argument by saying Maguire had a decent tournament for England.

International football hasn't been the best place to judge a footballer for a long time now.
