Typical ...

Perfect move for him ... almost guaranteed starter, still in London so no need to move house etc ... obviously not wired the same way Werner is in being prepared to accept a lower wage to actually PLAY football ... I guess we are stuck with him until his contract expires in 2024.

Yeah the majority of these players have huge deals no other club will match, and they are paid far more than their skill is worth, and they would sooner earn the money than play, and ideally be loaned while getting their full pay.

Werner was an exception to the rule.

Yes, but only if it suits them financially. Trend amongst many footballers of today.

Obs no real desire to play on a regular basis ..shame

Supposedly about £75K a week. Quite low in our squad, but probably near the top for other clubs, who aren't going to go all in at that level for a left back ...

Just realised he's not going to the World cup, so he's in no hurry to get game time to prove anything. Still, very poor for a professional player, it's a short career, make the most out of it instead of just collecting pay checks. It's not like he's at the end of the career, he will regret it when his contract is up and no decent teams wants him.

Always makes me laugh when people call players greedy for not lowering their wages to leave a club. Wonder how many of us would move jobs to earn less money. Footballers have a very short career, may as well make the most money as you can from it.

Nevertheless, Emerson is gone now. Anyone know what the transfer fee was?

Apparently the fee was £13m which could rise to £15m with addons/ bonuses etc.

Yep and most careers are over by their early 30's and then they normally need to find another line of work they can't all be pundits or coaches.

A rubbish defender, surprisingly competent further forward. He did score that goal against Atlético(?) in the CL run too. Also he looks a lot like a friend of mine that I used to go to games to which was always a source of amusement.

Best of luck to him. £11m seems like a pretty decent fee. Good move for both sides I think (apart from West Ham but I don't care about them).

I quite like him. Never as bad as many people think, like many other players that have come and gone over the years he was never given a decent run of games where he could prove his worth.  West Ham have picked up themselves a bargain player as they will start to see when he begins to play on a regular basis.  You don't get into the Italian National team by being rubbish and a Brazilian.  Look at the talent we have let slip through our fingers over the years because one manager or another didn't fancy them. I think Palmieri falls into that category.

That does seem to apply to a phenomenal number of players we have signed. Makes you wonder who scouted them and who decided to sign them. But I guess it’s just part of modern football. Dredging for players for strength in depth and perhaps fear of missing out.

I suspect Anthony Gordon will join these ranks if we do sign him.
