Welcome Emerson Palmieri!

25M for Emerson is a no-brainer even in today's inflated market. Apart from the fullbacks we have been linked with, maybe there's another 18 year old young Chelsea LB we weren't aware off, until we vacate Emerson's spot in the team.

It is. So long as is not another loan to buy deal.

Seems to have fallen out of favour very rapidly. I thought he was close to our best in the Europa run last season.

I think he is being exposed as Dave is by our disjointed pressing and defensive structure. Towards the end of last season with a narrow defensive structure I thought he was great. Now without good cover and with more gaps in our backline he is looking a bit shaky.

Problem is I've seen the same stuff written about most of our backline this year, Rudiger is getting criticism too. Challenge is the system not the players. Frank's system is starting to appear like his uncles: good to watch, plenty of goals but not great at the other end.

I blame him for the second goal. He had the chance and time to kick the ball out of play or upfield so that Tammy could get treated but instead decided to keep the ball in play as if we were the team looking to score. That's not even mentioning his poor performances. It's looking like we might have to panic buy a LB before the window closes, unfortunately.

He was at fault for both goals to be honest.

We have no choice but to panic buy, we desperately need a left back, Alonso and Emerson are not good enough, Emerson had his chance this season to prove the critics wrong but he hasn't done it, he's not good enough. We don't have a choice, we need to get a new LB, we can't persist with Azpi at LB.

Fully agree. I was hopeful that Emerson would take his chance this season but he looks like exactly what he was purchased as - a backup squad player. At this point if we aren't able to bring in a new LB this window I wouldn't mind seeing Anjorin or Maatsen get a chance.

I actually rated him, I thought he was good going forward but this season he's shown how average he is. Way too passive when we have a lot of possession, can't defend, he just screams average. People slate Alonso but Alonso is at least a game changer, I know which player will be rememberd more after they leave.

Yeah definetley at fault for both of them now that I'm recalling the other goal.

If we are going to panic buy I hope at least the board just go all out and spend. No point going down the Drinkwater and co route again.

Agreed. Alonso is still one of the best options as a left-side wing back. He isn't anywhere near as good when played in a conventional back 4 unfortunately. Emerson came in a time when we were signing tons of average players, and unfortunately he is one of them.

If Italian clubs want Emerson, then we should be driving him there in a limo with locked doors that you can't open from the inside.

Alonso I am OK with. He has his faults, but as a team we do better when he plays than when he doesn't.  Bring in someone like Telles from Porto as the other left back option.

Terrible player. Once again he plays, once again he costs us.

If he had not been so brain dead in the first half to get the obvious and stupid booking he could have brought the Arsenal player down to prevent the counter, like Christensen did. Or just win the ball in the first place.

Then he not only fails to put the ball out for the limping Tammy but gives it away and then gives Bellerin all the space and time he needs to curl home after letting him cut inside.

TBF so did about 4 other Chelsea players that all carried on.

I honestly thought he was going to get another yellow last night, really thought Alonso should come in to replace him, and give another option in attack. He's just not that good of a player, could have kept Zapacosta and rid of Emerson instead, and we wouldn't miss much, of course it's better to get rid of them both. I don't get it why we don't want sell if Inter was  serious with a bid, right now we got 2 left backs, neither are first choice.

Quite ironic Conte has now chased two signings from his second season transfer windows here given he was constantly using those windows to justify his failings that year.

Don't mind seeing him go. I was pretty excited when he signed for us and I was constantly waiting for him to show his potential, but he never did. He's shown glimpses here and there, but he's far too inconsistent a player to play for us, especially if we want to compete for the title and cups.

He seemed like a very promising player when he first arrived, but he has really failed to make any progress. Capable of the odd good performance (Europa League Final for example), but ultimately not of the quality we aspire to.

Left-back is an obvious area in which we need to upgrade. Alonso is incredibly gifted in individual areas but is clearly a flawed player - seemingly Emerson's only advantage over him is that he can run, which isn't exactly the most glowing of praise...

Selling him is probably the right move. I imagine we'll get a half-decent fee for him (I think his contract expires in 2022), and judging by the noise around Chilwell we are already looking at replacements.

Might want to take a look at Raphael Guerreiro from Dortmund. Wouldn't cost much either.

Alphonso Davies is the LB for the future, but Bayern won't let him go cheap.
