Next Chelsea Manager

Who would be your choice as Chelsea manager going into next season? 213 members have voted

  1. 1. Here are the current favorites with Conte included. Jody Morris is in there as he is the current youth team manager, and promoting from within seems to have worked for Barca, so why not us?!

I'm prepared for the club to be midtable again this season. I don't want it to but that seems to be how it is considering the lack of anything this summer

I think most of us would swallow this, if we were clearly developing something or trying to develop in a different direction. But a midtable or worse season whilst Conte constantly moans and blames everybody else about his and his team's shortcomings sound mouthwatering. On the positive side as we slip back into mediocrity at least we won't be on the TV as much, being humiliated by the likes of Watford, Bournemouth, West ham et al. Of course we'll be on TV for the FA cup seeing if the likes of Norwich or Hull can go one better than this year.

I'm quite interested in this.  Have they actually said that, or are we inferring it from random  interviews?

He said he would leave if we didn't adequately improve the team. We haven't done any improvements whatsoever so unless we actually sign some players that will improve the first team he will likely leave. Nothing about Conte.

Think we will make the announcement on the day with no WC game, imagine we make an announcement tonight just before the England game, the media will go nuts over the attention seeking Chelsea.

But we're not the big pull any more. It would briefly be breaking news on Sky and then be completely forgotten. We are now potentially merely a top 6-7-8 side and with our recent net spend that's where we may well likely be for a while yet. At the end of the day this league, like any other, generally levels itself out on who spend the most money.

All this talk of lack of transfers is utter tosh, who in the top 6/8 has made any big name moves so far? Manu got Fred but thats about the only "name" player that I can see... during a WC transfers always happen at the last minute,

Did he actually say he would leave?  I haven't seen or heard that interview.  In the only ones I have seen he said he would like the team to improve,  but I've not seen anything where he directly says he would leave, despite the Beeb and others trying to goad that exact comment out of him.

If he has, I missed that one.

Mid July no? So 12 days left... Then you sharpen your pitchfork.

No,  end of July, so 28 days left.  And my pitchfork is always sharp, just kept in a safe place away from pensioners, children and animals

Hazard never said he would leave this summer if we didn't sign good players, but he did say he was waiting to see if we signed good players before commiting to a new contract with us.

I think he will stay next season, if it looks like we are building something that can challenge for the biggest trophies, then I think he will stay long term.

Given how the players didn’t celebrate with Conte and players like wWillian publicly showing his dissatisfaction with him, I can’t see how conte could continue in the role.

There has to be a change either way.

According to Telegraph and SSN we are in talks with Barca over Willian as we speak. First offer of 50 million rejected.

The implication was he would leave. Whether he does or not is anybodies guess. I don't even know what point you are arguing here to be honest. Do you not want Chelsea to make any transfers to improve the team this summer?

There may well be a change but there doesn't HAVE to be a change.

A lot of the players were close to Conte and enjoyed playing for him. Now things may have soured for some but at the end of the day, these are all grown men being paid huge amounts of money and they will all return after summer break and get on with it as any professional would. Any player that can't deal with that for whatever reason will be moved on but I would imagine that won't be too many of them.

He also said he was going to sign a new contact after Thibaut does. Not it looks very likely that Courtois will be sold this summer.
In reality we probably need to look to sell him this summer if he won't sign a new contract since he's worth to much and selling him with a year left on his contract would take a lot of money away from the club.

I don't think Eden is going to like that Willian seemingly is on his way out as well.

In theory that should happen but we have seen time and time again player power rules at this club. We even sacked our greatest ever manager because of the players chucking it under him.

We seen the back of Costa due to the frustrations and are badly missing him tbh, if we lose Willian and a few others that could be the same. I just think the club see it an easier task replacing the manager to keep the squad happy.

I like you would rather weed the unhappy players out

It's not that, it's people bandying around as if fact "Hazard said he will leave if Conte isn't sacked" - He never said that.

Fair point.

As much as we loved Jose, the things that unfolded were toxic to pretty much everyone.

The way I see it, the club is at a crossroads and the board is picking the worst move. Standing still.

Big announcement; even I can’t be arsed with this anymore. Nothing is going to happen. Ever.

Must be a sure sign it happens tomorrow then.

Here's the interview if you're interested. Says it's not a deciding factor in him staying, just that it's important to him we strengthen because he wants to win the title next season.

Players can't leave unless we sell them. If we can't get our act together to sign a manager we aren't going to be able to sell a player.

True, but then we could be left with a few fairly uninspired players, I hope that isn’t the case.

To be fair, I’m not sure about his thoughts on Conte, though he has openly criticised the style of play, I think it’s only Willian whose been vocal about Conte. But Hazard did say in an interview that we need to sign top quality players and then he will stay.

It's a fact of English tabloid life that they report conflicting stories, made up because the club doesn't go public on every twist and turn of multi-million negotiations. We don't know what's happening behind the scenes. The fact that we are impatient for news that isn't forthcoming doesn't necessarily mean the club is being run in an insane way.

True, I’m a pessimist and as much as I try and be patient, sometimes I can’t be, I was very calm, now not so much. All we can do is wait and see what happens, if we stick with Conte, we may have 2/3 disgruntled players, will we be able to replace them in time? Will Sarri come in too late and leave us playing catch up with days to go? It’s frustrating at the moment.
