Jorginho is.... (well now was) a Blue

I think you’re wrong here, Thiago would have thrived at Chelsea as Fabregas did. I think he’s not being used to his best at Liverpool, who do not use their midfield much and the donkey of Henderson has played more than the magic foot of Thiago.

Pretty sure if Thiago was all that, Bayern wouldn’t be fine with him leaving them so soon...

Well yea Gallagher is ready if Kante leaves and Gilmour if Jorginho leaves but that’s clearly less quality and less experience and then for a long season of 50+ matches there is no depth in the squad either.

I mean first you ask why would we need to go on a spending spree but then in the end you also say that unless we spend big it won’t be possible to compete with Man City and Liverpool.

Losing Rudiger and Christensenand possibly Dave too is huge, then losing Kante or Jorginho or both is also huge for us. We’re talking about 5 players that have been starters whenever they have been fit. That’s also losing the captain and vice captain.

Good luck to Tuchel for making a new team but without a warchest of 200m our ambitions for next season wouldn’t be to challenge Man City/Liverpool for the title but we would be fighting for top 4 which is a step back considering that even with Chilwell injured and James at times too we have been top 3 with no problems this season so far.

I don't expect us to challange City or Pool for the title next season or win the CL. Lot of upheaval going on and the new owners will need to find their feet.

Making top 4 is the only thing I hope for next season.

In fairness they weren't. He wanted a new challenge.

That makes a lot of sense, Matic for example wanted to play for Mourinho at Man United and that alone made the deal much easier.

He played there for 7 years and, as Argo has said, they weren’t that happy to see him go.

Well if the new owners give Tuchel 200m to spend top 4 should be the default for us.

Depends. Do they spend it wisely or not. Cause 2 more Lukakus will hardly help our cause.

Fair enough. I do think that Thiago is a more skilled player than Jorginho but despite that he didn’t influence Klopp’s Liverpool as much as Jorginho has had an impact for us and in the PL. If it’s due to the tactics or dependency of a particular style I’m not sure.

I presume you are talking about comparing Jorginho’s first season to Thiago. The whole team were built around Jorginho under Sarri. Imagine how the season would be going for Thiago if they decided to build team around him? Yeah, Jorginho doesn’t even come close.

Klopp's midfield functions differently and he already had a "winning formula" before Thiago joined. In that sense they didn't need to be dependent on him as Sarri was on Jorginho since before Sarri, under Conte we didn't insist to play as a possession-based team so that change was far more significant in comparison to Klopp getting Thiago that just joined an already functioning tactic, they played the same way before and after he signed.

With that said I don't really remember that Bayern really built their whole tactic around Thiago, he was pretty standard for them but the team wasn't really built around him since Pep had Alonso there at the base of the midfield while Thiago was more advanced as a standard CM and in recent times not even the Spanish team was dependent on him as much as e.g. Pedri.

Maybe it's an unfair comparison since a player like Jorginho had his previous manager use him in the exact same way once again just in a different league while Thiago played under multiple managers with different tactics, but in my defense I wasn't the one to start with that comparison to begin with so no matter what the reasons are behind it, Jorginho has had a bigger impact than Thiago in Liverpool despite Thiago being the more skilled player.

Anyone contemplating having Gilmour replace Jorginho is insane, at this point Gilmour is a championship player, if Jorginho goes that’s a £50m+ midfielder we need to sign.

Imagine relying on Gilmour + RLC at the base of the midfield for a whole season + Kovacic that might get injured at some point. Tuchel would lose the remainings of his hair!

If the aim is to compete with Pool and City agreed. However we don't know who the new owners will be and their intentions.

Assuming TT stays. We don't know whether he will like the new owners and agree with their plans and he may just leave anyway with his divorce and everything else he has been through.

It is all words and fluff from the potential owners. Maybe they will invest smartly and push us back to the top or maybe they will make us like Arsenal. We don't know.

Yes, I agree with you but that’s because Liverpool does not use the midfield much. FFS, that donkey of Henderson has more minutes than Thiago. Klopp uses more the long ball and the full backs to carry the ball. That’s why I think that Thiago would have had more game time and would have been more effective for us than the dippers.

I think Jorgi has always been inconsistent and not progressive enough for us to win the league.. he is great in Europe against continental systems..

in a league where losing 2-3 matches is all you can afford, he costs us at least 1-2 from his errors alone. I think we need a different midfielder a more dynamic physical version not really an upgrade because he is great at what he does .. just not sure if this team needs that.

Sorry man but i don't agree. Even the great Kante or even Terry would make an error or two. However, i do agree that we need new midfielders with that energy, athleticism and vision to succeed in the Premier league. This doesn't mean that Jorginho has done badly, he is one of the reasons of our recent successes.

His penalty shooting style is stupid as hell. It was only a matter of time before keepers wised up to it. Just don't dive and wait until he tamely shoots the ball and you have a great chance of saving it. It's no surprise his recent record hasn't been great.

When it doesn't work it's the worst penalty ever.

I know he has a good record for penalties (you probably have the figures) but how many of those penalties were crucial like todays ? do you know ?

Misses with Italy against Switzerland and England, miss vs Liverpool and Man City.
