Should not change our approach. Players like RLC, ampadu, emerson and christensen should play.

Not very often we get such a tough game so early in a competition.

Probably one of the worst draws we could have asked for, through you cannot rule out Liverpool fielding a second string line up because of their European games.

Maybe better to draw them now as apprised to later rounds when they’d be taking the cup more seriously?

We play them twice in three days. 

Tough draw for us. Hopefully sarri fields a strong team for it to try get in contention for a cup and hoping Liverpool field a 2nd string team for them to focus on champions league. 

For me if both teams put good teams out going to Pens and will be decided that way 

Don’t even care if we go out. 

It feels like it will affect our season badly if we go far in the competition, especially with Europa and league. I’d rather we go out so we can have a team that is fully rested and ready to tackle the league

But it’s always nice when we beat Liverpool.

With us playing them a couple of days after in the league at home we should certainly be fielding a weakened team for this.

Testing week for sure...w Ham away, then Liverpool twice...by end of next month, we will have good indication of where we are really at

the ultimate scenario is to get knocked out in 3rd round and then beat them in 3 days.

Nice to get a big team in an away cup game, will get a big allocation, so we can take a fair few up there, the great mythical Anfield atmosphere will be totally shown up with 5k Chelsea up there

In another news... Mourinho vs Lampard. 

I'd have no issue in playing a fully rotated XI for the Anfield game and losing once we beat the scum at the Bridge in the PL.

This is my favourite post of the week.

Be interesting to see what Sarri does. It's his first season so may aim for any old cup, or will he field a weaker side and focus on the league and making top four? I would go for the latter if I were him, but we'll see. We have good depth now to compete in almost all comps, but imo FA Cup comes ahead of this cup domestically. We should be looking to make top four most importantly. 

If it is going to be the battle of the second team, I like our chances even better.

I would put RLC in midfield and would imagine CHO probably gets a shot to run at them

Fair point - I dont want to put Barkley (who has played as a winger in the past) in the winger position as he has played in this midfield position and looked pretty decent and also i dont know if RLC has the same defensive workrate as Barkley who IMO has put a much better defensive shift when i have observed him. Maybe replace RLC with CHO who is a more natural winger.

Very true

I expect both teams to start with b players, it’ll be a tough game, you want to win the competition, but it’s not the end of the world if we go out.
