Olivier Giroud

Brings more to the team than Higuain in my opinion, would like to see him play more games in the PL.

Not good enough for the PL though; think he has 4 league goals in his last 30+ appearances. Amazing how he & Willian look like World class players in Europa league but bang average in the PL.

Truth is we are not going anywhere with either him or Higuain leading the line.

He started the season quite well and was linking up with Hazard a lot and although Giroud wasn't necessarily scoring himself he seemed to be bringing the best out Hazard.

I think he's been unlucky not to start more games in the league personally. He's contributed directly to 17 goals this season, 10 goals and 7 assists which is good going for someone who isn't getting a run of games.

I agree with @ForeverCarefree that while Grioud hasn't been banging them in the net in the BPL, he does appear to make the rest of the attack more dangerous.

I hear a lot he was a passenger to a World Cup title due to few goals, but I feel he was an undervalued and instrumental role player there and also here too.

He’s our French Emile Heskey!

Would give him a start against Everton to see if he can carry on his form.

Higs has been decent, but always looks knackered after 50-60 min

Winning World Cups with non-scoring strikers is basically a French tradition at this point

This thread is disrespectful and shameful. He might not be the greatest goalscorer, but damn it, he tries hard every time and he's been helpful by many other ways. Show some class.

The Mail reporting on an interview GIroud gave to French media. I'm assuming the Mail will pick and choose their words and translations, but this is what Giroud supposedly said:

Quote

Speaking on RTL, Giroud said: 'Of course it is frustrating. I feel like there is no competition since January.

'It is like that, I know that I will only play in the Europa League and I will try to do everything I can to be as effective and decisive as possible for the team.

'The future could be lively this summer. I am not scared of going down a level to have more playing time. It could be that I end my career in France.'

If true, just points to some horrible man management on Sarri's part. I'm sure that Giroud is not the only player to feel this way (most importantly, Christensen and CHO)

Also, with the transfer ban, we actually might want to keep Giroud for another season. Unless the club plans to start next season with Morata, Batshuayi and Tammy?

Could well be staying after all:

"I’m a competitor. I’m 32, almost 33. I feel very good physically. I have one of the best physical tests. I feel well with my body and the most important thing is to still have this hunger to win some more trophies, to play more games.

"As a competitor, I want to play more. I answered a simple question: “Am I happy to play the second role?” As a competitor, logically, I answered: “Not really”.’

"I really want to be here. As the manager said, they really want to keep me and give me one more year. I’m really happy to stay because I like playing for Chelsea, I feel very well from the first day I arrived, like I was part of the family."

Jesus wept, it's like everyone wanting him gone has an idea about who will replace him.

Our options are morata, bats, higuain, Abraham and giroud.

Giroud for my money is the best of that lot. Giroud and Abraham for me next year and I'll be happy. Although Abraham will break into the first team and then do his Achilles.

You do realize Giroud has 5 goals in 40 league apparances for us? We are clearly in trouble if he's our starter. He's also 33 and is only going to get worse.

With Hazard gone as well, and the goals he brings to a team one doesn't need to be a rocket scientist to realize we will be in big trouble.

The one player who could score from midfield is also out for most of the season so one have to wonder where the goals is coming to come from next season.

It’s a real shame that Batshuyi’s link up play is poor because he is a extremely clinical finisher. Even Henry said he’s one of the most natualg finishers he’s ever seen.

If only Sarri would help him with his link up play and general movement.

I know, I'm not saying he's good. Just saying he's not as sh*t as all the other options!

2 goals in 27 league apps is dreadful. Drogba may not have been a 20+ goal a season striker, but at least he scored and showed up in the biggest games. Giroud just doesn't score enough goals against decent opposition.

Extending his contract is probably not the best idea, especially as Tammy is pretty similar. Tammy scored more league goals than Giroud when he played for Swansea. May as well just sell and let Tammy and Batshuayi lead the line if they not gonna extend Higuain's stay.

If given enough games with Giroud I reckon Pulisic and CHO can net 15 goals a piece.

Tammy could get 20 with them imo.

Pulisic has never managed more than 4 league goals in a season, why would he now be banging in 15?
