I still think Lampard needed more experience at a higher level. He did below average with a Derby side in the Championship league. If the board wanted to go in a direction of integrating youth, there's no reason they couldn't have brought in a more experienced coach to do just that. As I said before, if that was any other coach than Lampard managing Derby last season, we wouldn't have touched him with a barge pole. Only because his name is Lampard he gets the job. I am not mad at Frank for taking it, but not sure it was the wisest decision by the club in general.

We aren't a Barcelona or Real Madrid who can hire/promote managers like Pep or Zidane from almost obscurity and supply them with a myriad of world class players. We need to realise what level we are at and plan accordingly. The fact those up above have only started to plan a different route now is crazy. The plans should have been put in place much sooner to build the foundations.

What did he get wrong?

Posts like this are the reason I was worried about appointing Frank. Our fans expectations are too high

We had one of the best managers in the world last season and we hounded him out. I worry our fans will react the same when we are sitting in 6th in January and we've been beaten handily by a few teams.

I've not been confident in appointing Lampard since the rumours began. He should have been given another season at least ply his trade in Championship and improve Derby's league position if possible. Ultimately Derby finished 6th in the Championship last season, which is still below par and was no proof he was good enough to take over at Chelsea. We could have gone with a more experienced coach initially, then looked to Frank at the end of the season or in two seasons time.

Managing in the PL is a totally different ball game for inexperienced coaches. I would have put Brendan Rodgers and Eddie Howe above Lampard if we were going that route, purely because of their experience at the higher level. I understand the fairytale return for Lampard is great on paper for the fans, but the appointment is still a huge risk, even more so with a transfer ban.

I back him and want him to do well, but I can't say I'm very confident. It's not his fault though, he has come in at arguably the worst time and wanted to take the job to prove his worth. Whether it pays off or not we will have to wait and see.

No he didn't need more experience at all he's right where he should be. He was very unlucky with Derby when they lost the final against Aston Villa. He's a better manager than Solskjaer.

Jose said Frank should have gone for experience and field Willian, Kante and Giroud because it is ManU. I love Frank for not doing that.

We went all out and got harshly punished. With a bit of luck and determination we could have wiped them off first half.

Jose is an idiot at times. A barley fit kante and an injured Willian should have played? That would have got a result.

I love the fact youngsters got a chance and did well.

When fit I hope Frank goes

He also mentioned decking Alonso ffs. Not sure if Jose had been drinking in the club bar beforehand, but that was a bit mad to hear him say.

My favourite was when he said you can’t pick players because they’re your favourites or you get on with them, it has to be to win the game. As if Mourinho never picked dodgy teams because he fell out with certain players or played guys completely out of form 🤣

Not to be pedantic but what exactly do you think the expectations were for Derby last season? To state that they were below average would have meant missing the playoffs.

They integrated a lot of youth last season, completely changed the way they play football and got the playoff final, as much as I’m sure they’d have loved to go up. I think making the playoffs was the aim and to get to the final means it was a pretty good season to build from.

Did we f*ck ....... Bournemouth away last year ................nuff said

My point had always been, with our team, we will lose big to teams who play on the counter. We need better players and we need time. Sarri won the Europa league and got us to third with that shambles and was rewarded with a job at one of the biggest teams in Europe (not us).

What we didn't need last season, or this season, is the continuous belief from some fans that we just need a "better manager" to start challenging for the league again. That a "better manager" will do things differently and all our players will suddenly become better as a result. It's nonsense.

So essentially you're saying that even if Sarri had been in charge yesterday we'd have still lost.

Is that the one who won the first trophy of his career last season after nearly 30 years of coaching?

Sarri also had Hazard and didn't have a transfer ban.

Felt like a bit of a freak result yesterday... Utd were ruthless in taking their chances, if only we were too.

Early days, but not convinced on Abraham up front. Pulisic and Mount look they have great potential.

With that team? Probably. I think the starting XI would have looked broadly the same and we'd have been done on the counter by bad defending.

My point is, our team isn't good enough yet. No manager will fix that. Time might fix it, time might see Christensen and rudiger become a solid back 2 and we might see Reece James step up and take azpis regular starting place (or push him to improve). But results like yesterday WILL happen to a team that is currently the 5th or 6th best in the country and are trying to play the way we do.

I think what lampard (and sarri) are doing is giving us the chance to get to the top table again by playing a style of football that when it works, can beat all 19 PL teams. We just have to accept we will get drubbings every so often when it doesn't click.

I think if we get through this season, with a warchest next summer, we will see the results next year.

Don't always agree with you but this is bang on. I think the whole appointment of Lamps signifies a change in approach from the board, and that we will give him the time he needs. This season is essentially a free hit due to the transfer ban and the lower expectations. My main worry is say if we are out of the top 6 at Christmas that the board get trigger finger. I hope that's not the case, but it wouldn't at all surprise me if it happened.

I think it would take a lot to go wrong for the fans to turn on him. A few people i know (myself included) aren't really optimistic that we finish in the top 4 or 6, but like you say once we can be active in the transfer market and plug where we need to plug, that's when you would expect us to really kick on.

On paper there are at least 10 teams with better strikers then us this season. That's is just an unfortunate fact.
We have to hope Abraham can really step up and prove himself as a PL-striker but if he doesn't we are going to lose a lot of points throughout the season.

I still think their were some positive signs in the game.

He played a well under strength team yesterday and we still managed to dominate for about 60 minutes of the game. I genuinely believe we would of gone on to win the game had Zouma not gave the penalty away.

Jose is a d**khead and he'll enjoy to slaughter Frank at every given chance. 1st question to Frank yesterday after the match was 'what Jose said about Mason' and Frank said he doesn't give a f**k what any pundit has to say. I just hope this vile man won't get into Frank's head. Jose is such a masive prick.

The one that took a very average squad with no striker and won them a European cup, another cup final and 3rd place finish against much better squads. The same manager was then poached by one of the best teams in Europe. The agenda against Sarri is strange to say what he did for our club going through a transition.
