Mason Mount

Featured Replies

I thought the second goal against the Saints was well worked and bodes well for the future.

Not only good finishing yet good reading of the game in knowing where to be and able to take the ball in his stride.

He's much better in a 3 man midfield than playing outwide or as a number 10. Be interesting to see if he can keep his place when Loftus Cheek returns, but it looks like Barkleys days are over.

Lampard will have a very tough decision to make once Loftus-Cheek returns. Loftus-Cheek became a crucial member of the team by the end of last season, and having him play at his best for us will be a massive boost, but it's impossible to drop Mount if he can keep having such a big impact on our games. I wonder if Lampard will mess around with the formation to fit them both in the starting 11.

I think and hope we stick to 433, im not a huge fan of changing formations all the time. It will be interesting though, But i hope Lampard doesn't play one of them outwide. Both are not quick or skilful enough to play outwide, Mount was struggling in that position for the past few games.

I know it won't happen seeing as Jorginho has become a key player for Lampard but I would have wanted Kante with Loftus Cheek as a two, or maybe with Mount as a third midfielder with  slightly deeper starting position.

I don't think Lampard will be the type to abandon the team balance just to fit players in.

If there's only room for one, then its decision time.

RLC isn't exactly a full 90min player and a must start for every game. I'm not saying that he's not capable but he's so injury prone that you need to use him just enough that his form picks up and take him out just before he overexerts himself and gets injured.

This is what I would prefer too. I have been impressed with Jorginho so far this season and I love his attitude on the pitch, but I can't help but feel that Kante, Loftus-Cheek and Mount would be pretty damn good. There is also a chance that we would miss Jorginho's calm passing if he was left out though.

I think our midfield has a ton of options in it. Kovacic's quick feet, Kante's everything, Jorginho's passing, Loftus-Cheek's power, Mount's pressing and knack for getting goals. Lampard has plenty of different ways he can approach a game with that midfield.

I think rotation is going to be key once RLC is back and I am sure all the midfielders will get plenty of game time, with Lampard I think he will select the best 11 based upon the opposition. Against bigger more physical teams I can see RLC playing in midfield in order to give us a bit of muscle in the middle of the park & against more agile quicker teams I think Mount would get the nod, all in all its great having high quality options rather than a fixed starting 11.

I think having RLC and Rudiger in the team would go a long way in sorting out our set piece problems, we would have Rudiger, RLC, Abraham, Zouma & possibly Alonso all of whom are absolute monsters in the air.

I think that looks better than it actually would be.

Firstly that would turn Kante into a sitting DM and while he will do okay we will drastly miss his energy, secondly Mounts a great presser but not a great positional defender and RLC isn't really great defensively atall and Kante can only do so much.

I don't want this to be a position where we're shoehorning both in and it's detriment to the team, if the system only allows one then Frank has a decision to make.

Although I can't see it being a problem until the back end of the season at the earliest, I think it will take Loftus quite a bit of time to get back upto speed and most likely even longer to get fully use to Lampard's system, he will have to adapt his game even more for Lampard than he did for Sarri.

I see it similarly too, and think for Mount or RLC to play together one needs to play in the front three so that we can have a robust midfield defensively.

Mount/RLC remind me of Gerrard/Lampard - not identical players, but their strengths (one-touch passing, forward runs, goal threat) and weaknesses (defensive positioning) nonetheless overlap enough that it is difficult to get the best out of them when they're both on the pitch simultaneously.

Play them both in a 3-man midfield and you don't receive enough defensive cover, while if you try them both in a 2-man midfield you'll find that neither is good enough in terms of defensive positioning to sit back and cover the other while they go on a forward run. Plus, while Ruben works harder than he used to, he still isn't exactly the most energetic player going around, nor does he have the most stamina. In a 2-man midfield you want energetic players with excellent stamina, because they will have to cover quite a lot of ground. Drinkwater/Kante worked so well together at Leicester because both had those qualities.

True. There are plenty of games over the whole season anyway and Loftus-Cheek's back needs to be managed well, so even if we can't get them both on the field at the same time, it's not like one of them won't be getting a lot of game time.

Barkely needs to get his act together fast ( if he is capable of it ) because even without Loftus-Cheek, he is starting to slip further down the pecking order. Once Loftus-Cheek returns, Barkley won't be getting many minutes at all.

He isn't good enough, should be sold. Good for us that we can sell him and likely make a profit doing it.

Quite often Barkley plays a more defensive role than RLC and with Kante having been injured I wouldn't be in a rush to sell him until the end of the season.

Hoping he gets a rest over the internationals. Get that ankle some rest. With my England hat on i’d like to see Maddison given a go as well.

Well Maddison has withdrew from the squad due to illness, so Mount will definitely not be getting nay rest. Think he will start personally and may have started even if Maddison was in the squad.
