Tariq Lamptey

If we ever go back to a back three again (before suitable players are signed) he just start as the RWB, he's literally the only player aside from Alonso who's a specialist in that position.

unfortunately in the modern game height and aerial ability is a really important attribute.... Lamps also like an aggressive way of playing .. at 5'3 he is simply not tall enough for a top team.. players will always look to cross deep and wingers will take advantage of him.. but he is a good lad.. and i hope he proves me wrong..

Out of contract in 6 mths. The club will have to make a decision soon, especially as he has now been in the shop window for clubs looking for a bargain.

I'm sure I read somewhere Frank has said he wants to renew his contract.

Latest one to head to Germany?

Theoretically he should be the one stopping those crosses not heading them away.

I'm sure someone knocked Messi for his height at one point. 'Yea, he'll never be able to beat people in the air'.

Surely it's the opposite now. In the past, it was hard to make it as a footballer if you were short, but these days the best players on the planet are short. They aren't as short as Lamptey, but they are still pretty short.

Exactly. Focusing on physical attributes is overrated. Get good players and put them on the pitch.

One example: focusing solely on physical attributes is a huge reason why the USMNT has been severely limited in its success historically.

Lahm made it to the very top despite being short for the game and in the era where size mattered.

I'm not saying the kid can make it but atm he doesn't pass the eyeball test

Any examples of defenders playing at the top level at 5'4" ? Lahm was 5'7"

yes he should stop crosses from the right but teams can target him with deeper crosses from the left and winger/runners from the midfield .

Just to be clear i am not trying to knock down a young player who had a fantastic debut just expressing an obvious concern..

He did well but lets not get carried away after one game.  He isn't going to be in the senior side often this year.  Will head on loan most likely

It's great to see them do well when used but some of our fans want them playing week in week out if they simply pass a ball 5 yards with a backheel

Very well said.

Some on here already claimed CHO can be 10x better thank Hazard. Such blasphemy.

The height topic is interesting, sure he's small but not every fullback has to compete in the air, Ashley Cole is average height and didn't win headers.

Because he's so small he's like Kante and has less weight to shift around and probably has great stamina like he does. I didn't pay much attention to his defending but he attacked pretty well, maybe he can develop into a modern fullback like Robertson/TAA.
