Cavani

Thank goodness looks like he's insisting on Atletico, just look at the Higuain & Pato January debacles, Torres as well (only 1 goal in that 2nd 1/2 of the season). Giroud too, has been alright in the EL but hasn't set the world on fire by any  means. Cavani will likely take time to settle in, hes 32 and will not be able to handle the pace of the league, his wages are sky high. I can only see a turkey, and the reason we are in this mess is because we bought Giroud in 2 years ago as a panic back up signing, sometime the cycle has to be broken, the club is paying for POOR recruitment all over the pitch why waste more millions and perpetuate it ? So keep Bats & Giroud until the summer then recruit wisely. Unless the recruitment is fixed to be in line with City/ Dippers this club will never seriously compete for 1st place for a very longtime. That 2 bob lack of a vision short term planning may work for Man U as they are the richest with a massive stadium , not for our club though.

Fair points above and when we are only bringing on Bats in the 79th minute, the strange situation of Giroud gets stranger.

Cavani is a better striker than any we have at our club or have done since Costa was at his best.

I agree he was an excellent striker. Not sure he is anywhere near his best now though. This season he has 5 goals total and 2 of those were penalties. Those kind of stats suggest something akin to the experience we had with Higuain last season. Another find striker in his day who was well past his best when he joined us.

The offer, if true, seems odd.

I can see why PSG may accept though believe it or not.  If Atletico will not raise their bid and we offer to pay a fee and cover wages, PSG are £12m better off between now and end of season.  £12m which they are asking for anyway, apparently to sell

I guess it depends on what sort of form he’s been in this season. And the state of his fitness. Cavani near the top of his game would be a decent short term option. But seriously, is that the Cavani we’re likely going to be getting?

That Cavani would still be playing for PSG

Lets be fair to Cavani aswell, being unable to get into PSG front line right now is hardly embarrassing.  Neymar, Icardi, Mbappe.  All of whom are bagging goals.

He’ll come here. PSG will reluctantly accept loan offer when they realise no one will buy him outright, with his ridiculous wages.

Wish i shared your optimism.  If Atletico want him, they are probably willing to pay his wages. it's just whether theyre prepared to up their offer for someone who is free in 6 months

There's a few scenarios which i think could happen, and none would surprise me at all

1. Atletico just pay what PSG want and sign him within the next week (obviously within the next week ? )

2. They refuse to up their offer and just sit back to sign him for free in June, and before then he gets loaned to us for a small fee and 100% of wage paid

3. In a mad panic in the final week.... Man Utd steam in and take him, paying whatever PSG are asking... 15-20m

If he does join Atletico Madrid, all of the potential targets that have been around are dead ends. Maybe a panic buy will be the only option.

I'm fine with a panic buy, spend 60m on someone like Belotti I don't care anymore since Tammy really needs help he looks burned-out and I would hate to see him getting injured.

If Cavani goes to Atletico can we have Diego back on loan ?

This is precisely what I would recommend. As has been posted elsewhere, we need a hard, horrible bastard, that defenders hate playing against, some. one who will fire up the rest of the team as they seem comatose at present.  Costa is not in the starting XI at Atletico and I have a feeling he would love coming back to Chelsea, with a point to prove. I have a feeling he has been injured though and the Chelsea management may have bad memories of his first time at the Club.

God No! He isn’t the same player anymore, he is worse that Morata who was awful here.

Costa's been that good since he's gone back to Leti they turned to Morata.

We should stay clear at all costs.

Why are we trying to loan him if he is going for 23 million? Even a 2 year contract we will get our money back all day. Plays if he can leave in free end of the year why would PSG want to loan not sell? Plus signing him lets us renegotiate his wages, if anyone is pushing for a loan not sale it would be his agent so he can keep those Ridiculous wages that he is no way worth now

Happy to take Cavani on a six-month loan but buying him on a permanent basis would be nothing other than a panic buy.

If Giroud leaves for Inter Milan, we need another striker to fill his void and we could do worse than having Cavani on loan.

What does it matter what the money is? It’s not my money or anyone else ion here.

It's a weird one. The only right answer is via the power of hindsight

then: 75 million on van dyke? They must be crazy

now: 75 million on van dyke? we were crazy not to

Just spend big bucks on players who will come good simples. right?

What does it matter what the money is? It’s not my money or anyone else ion here.
It matters because these funds will be missing for other transfers. FFP calculates over a 3 year period.
