Timo Werner

He tried his best, can't blame him for that. He's the player with most shots taken, most big chances missed and most times been in offside but you can't argue with the fact that he's trying.

Maybe we should stop with a 3 at the back and play a different kind of game where we could really use the pace of our players, I feel that if Man City scores first again against us like they did in the PL, this time in the CL final they will do what Leicester did, sit back defend deep and then it's over.

"He's trying" jesus christ. Any one of us on this forum would try. He is absolute garbage and should be playing for the other Fulham club

Indeed.  I've completely given up with him now.

I've never seen him take on a player, he always has to have the drop on the last defender with pace. A lot of pace merchants can do the job he's doing, honestly Vardy is the same kind of player as him but better and more intelligent as well. We need to sign a new striker, a big one who can give defenders problems with back to goal.

And the fact if Vardy gets a chance you can be pretty confident it’s in, or at least on target.

It wasn't long ago you almost give up on Werner and i was defending him. Now i think it might be the other way round.

Sure he gives defenders nightmares with his pace, but the keepers are just laughing at him, he doesn't seem capable of hitting an empty goal at the moment.

The one positive thing that I can say is that he's trying, that's it. I'm honestly just saying that maybe this really is his best, very wasteful and in the modern game where end product is crucial he simply won't be a top player. Someone said after the Arsenal game that we have been winning because he was playing, I would say despite he was playing because he's the same player as he was under Lampard and you told me that once a new manager comes Werner won't have the same excuse of a manager not using him properly and I haven't given him that same excuse, this isn't me defending him it's just the one positive thing I can think of in hope that he might do better in the CL final.

Tommy was well pissed with him when he skied that chance in the first half, :face_palm::angry2::mad0040:

He made some good runs and that one where he runs through the middle and cracks it, might have been goal of the season.

Though as soon as he lined it up I was thinking no, no get closer...........

Later on he frustrated me on the  right, decides to cross with two defenders blocking him, first one cross deflected back then instead of looking for a runner tries again to cross though the defenders.

Disappointing the only thing I think is while he is making these runs is that when Pulisic comes on the change in style should enable Pulisic to open up the opposition though not today on the right.

He tries hard but, how does he miss that first half shot by such a distance?

It's the kind of shot you would expect from a defender or a non league player who'd been at work all day.

Timo was trash today, seemingly always making the wrong decisions. Shooting when he should have passed. Passing when he should have shot.

But....

Hand on heart, how many chances did our playmakers create for him? We all know he is not a Drogba or Costa who is going to singly handedly wrestle a goal out of nothing. Wie knew that when we signed him. If you are going to sign and play players of his style, then you need to put them into a team that creates chances and space. Now, I have zero confidence that he would have scored, but, we didnt get to know, because we create sweet f**k all for him.

If you put Lewendowski or Haaland in this team, I genuinely believe it will be no different. We are clueless at breaking down chances, and short of hoofing it up to a handsome frenchman in the last 10 mins, we had no plan b or idea on how to create genuine goal scoring chances. It was the same against Arsenal (in which Timo didnt play)

Every time we had some momentum going in the first half he basically killed it. Then he just faded away in the second half. I'm fearing that he had a fluke last season and that he's actually just a one-dimensional runner.

I'm certain it would be different Jim. Because Haaland and Lewa are miles better technically. Certainly in terms of touch and control. Lewa has a better football brain than Werner, experience accounts for that perhaps, and Haaland has shown many times that he can make his own chances, often out of nothing. And finish them.

Can Werner's touch and control be improved? I'm not convinced. Can his decision making and finishing be improved? Possibly. Though it is getting to the point where taking him right back to basics might be the next step even if that involves hanging a cow's arse from the cross bar at Cobham and handing Timo a large banjo.

The more that I see Timo, the more that I am convinced that he's a very limited player. But he does work very hard.

I am not sure if I should feel bad for the guy, or hate him for the many chances he f*cked up.

Whoever we have played up top this year, whether that has been Werner, Tammy, Giroud, Kai or even Ziyech or Puli (as false 9s), we have struggled to create clear goal scoring chances. Other than speculation, there is little evidence to suggest that any of our supporting players have it in them to turn into assist making machines - whoever is playing up top.

For context, our biggest assist maker this season in the league has been Timo on 8.  The next 3 are Mason (5), Chilly (5) , Kai (3), Ziyech (3) and CHO (3) - only 2 of whom started today.

That lack of chance creation in the team was reflected in how little we created today. What clear chances did we have make? I cant think of any. There was a cracking half volley from mason, a header from chillwell that was touched onto the post and the disallowed goal. What else? It is painful how little genuinely clear cut chances we create.

I do not believe that with Lewandowski (or whoever else) up front, that Kante suddenly turns into a double digit assist maker, or CHO suddenly starts pinging crosses onto the strikers head, or Jorginho suddenly starts playing through balls for him to run onto. We simply don't play that way, and for years we have struggled with creating space and chances for our strikers. We could have the most technically gifted player in the world, one with the very best touch and control, with a footballing IQ of 228, but if they are not getting provided chances, then when are they going to score?

Very few strikers in world football have it in them to create their own chances.  They are a dying breed, and Timo certainly isnt one of them.

He doesnt look like a footballer. Doesnt seem to know the game at all, constant bad decisions. He didn't F up any chances today though - we didnt create him any for him to miss.

LBH Temo (through no fault of his own) was scouted by either RA or Marina and signed for more than Torres (bindippers didn’t  fancy him we know why now). Tinker Tuchel is playing him and the other expensive flop (who at least seems to have potential) bc he’s only here to coach the players the owner provides 😉 In hindsight Torres was better value bc we kept on winning trophies with him in the squad. Temo has no more excuses and there are none, no other player except Eee Aww (KH) are given chance after chance while proven goal scorers are forgotten about. And like Tomori someone upstairs has decided to cash in on Tammy still the seasons top scorer obviously to try and recoup some of the 150 mill wasted last summer on this bloke and the other 2 toothless wonders.

Pretty sure you were one of the ones giving Abraham a hard time about the header against West Ham, weird that you’re giving Timo a free pass for his today, which was a significantly easier header.

Man City won't change there game if they score first.  They will go for goal 2 ...3 ..and 4.  Go for our throats....what really really good teams do.... And if they score 2 goals we are done.

As I said in the other thread when you play with 1 less attacker and Kante is your best offensive midfielder it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see why we have struggled to score goals.

It is funny that in term or general performance yesterday wasn't Timo worst game in recent months the biggest difference was that we losed so people can't use he tried, he worked hard excuse.

Which header? Can't remember the chance you are referring to?

Tammys miss from about 15cms I remember, but don't recall timos header yesterday. Don't get me wrong, he was ineffective and made some bad decisions, such as shooting when he should have played in Ziyech, but I don't remember any genuine goal scoring chances he had.
