Declan Rice to Chelsea?

Featured Replies

Best game of him during the euros - still makes me wonder why Chelsea should sign a guy for an absurd amount of money who excels at "parking the bus sides" (what England basically did yesterday after 10-15mins) and who gets subbed off once you actually need a goal? If we hadn't already an excellent cm with Jorgi, Kanté and Kova (Gilmore too in the long run) - then maybe worth it, dunno - or in 2years when the top dogs eventually run out of steam but right now? Hope not.

He made sense last year when Lampard was clearly going down the sitting DM with Mount and Havertz in front but I'm not really sure how he fits in Tuchel's system.

I could maybe see him as a player who plays in certain matches/situations but for what he will cost he can't really be a horses for courses player.

I think we're definitely interested and I would hazard a guess we may even bid for him this summer. I share the same concerns as everyone else though. If we stick with a midfield 2 then sadly I can't see the point of paying £70m+ for a player that surely won't start every game.

Kova, Jorginho and Kante all deserve to play regular mins and with Rice even with a hectic schedule I'm not sure we can balance all four. Ofc the future remains to be seen. I'm highly for this transfer regardless, I think if we have some games playing a back 4 it makes sense.

Also if we can't get Haaland, we must come to accept that either we don't sign a striker this summer or we go the next tier down which I disagree with. If we're going to go big on a player I think Rice in the long term is worth the £70m.

I don't really want us to pay more than £80 with add ons. English premium aside, West Ham need to be realistic if we come in Rice will want to come here and they shouldn't stand in his way. £70m can do a lot for their squad

Barella got destroyed by Rice in the first half and was subbed off early on in the second with Immobile. With that said the price tag is just too much, if West Ham really wants 90m pounds we should immediately offer that money to Barcelona's Pedri that is really worth that amount.

That I totally agree on! Basically played a completely flawless tourney with 18y. Even that (own)goal he shot from afar was of a fascinating weird beauty.. 😉

It's been tongue in cheek of course. But while I totally agree: Barcelona is an extremely chaotic club atm and for some time, so at the same time I wouldn't rule out anything with them.

As much as I would like him to rejoin us there is only a slightly better chance of that happening this summer than Haaland, as in not much hope at all.

3 years left on his deal, West ham have a club option to extend it by 1. They have no need to lower their price for 2 years, then I can see them dropping it if he does not sign a new deal.

We wont pay 100mill for him, he is simply not worth that amount. Like Haaland we need to move on to more realistic targets or not bother at all. Either way TT needs to know who he will have to plan the season for.

We won't miss him, plenty of quality players for the same price tag IMO. Rice isn't a difference maker just yet he's mainly solid defensively and the way we faced opponents most of the time in the PL showed that we need a more technical player to rotate with Jorginho, still a more typical DM but just someone capable of playing the ball and putting his head up more often.

Not the player we need this season. I actually think he will stick around at West Ham for another year after the high of last season, then move on after proving there's nothing else he could achieve at the club

I disagree, I think hes exactly the player we need this season. The games we struggled in last season were due to being swamped and overrun in midfield, outpowered. We dont have a midfielder in our squad to combat that at the moment, Rice gives us exactly that.

I agree. We need him for games where Kante or Jorginho is having stinkers

I hope we get him,but God we are so quiet on the transfers which I don't know if it's good or bad, Marina knows how to toy with us.

Think we are quite because we are cannot get who we want so wont be getting anyone of significance.

It's really weird axman2526 I echo all the posts you put, when you post something it's exactly what I feel and would write.

I wouldn't be too concerned, it was an international tournament season and most transfers are going to generally be slower than last year. Even City who generally complete their transfers early haven't signed anyone, most of the people who have signed players are signing people who they were linked with months ago.

The more I think about this the more tricky it becomes.

Rice has qualities no doubt yet he is not a creative midfielder.

He is strong both in the tackle and running with the ball.

Kova and Kante can get around the pitch and win the ball and carry it forward.

Rice would only be a certain improvement on Jorginho's weakness yet I am not sure this is enough to buy him, unless someone comes in for Jorgy.

Jorgy is probably more likley to play in most matches than Rice which means Rice would only be really needed for a number, would he move for just a number of matches?

I think not, so unlikely for me.

Why?

Links up better with other midfield players certainly Kovacic, though working with Kante would be interesting to see under Tuchel.

Just think Jorginho knits the team together better than Rice would on the ball.

Knit and link up better??

I have doubt but let's say that is true. I am pretty sure everyone will agree that Declan Rice is a better defender and can play between split cb like what Marquinhos did for Tuchel in psg so I can see us putting one more attacker/midfielder against weaker team and play 433. Or he can just straight replace Jorginho in 343 and it will improve our defensive solidity especially because Kante is not exactly young anymore.

Will this benefit outweigh rice lack of knitting skill?
