Declan Rice to Chelsea?

Come on Thomas/Marina/whoever, get it done.

Can you imagine the demented fury we'll incur in the West Ham fans when we sing 'Declan Rice, he's one of our own', with them knowing that it's technically true.

There`ll be smashed up caravans everywhere....

If this truly happens, that'd be a solid incoming of players. Hopefully that would mean we are also able to some players off our books as well.

If it happens would surely lead us to playing a 4-3-3 to fit the two Midfielders in to the same side as in a 4 they would offer little going forward. Although having said that our current 3 offer little going forward as well.

I think the daily mail could fit a few more ads onto their page. Got some empty space that isn't being utilized. really disappointed with them

Pretty obvious he wants to be as respectful to West ham as possible as he has genuine affection for the club.

However is pretty obvious if he leaves there he wants to come to the bridge. Wonder if TT wants him though and if we will be in a rush to spend another 100mill after the last one has not only struggled badly but mouthed off against the club and manager.

If he really wants to come here, then he could force the price down by putting in a transfer request and saying he only wants Chelsea. That would really force West Hams hand to come to the negotiating table, since he has 2 years left in his deal, and this summer would be the time for them to sell.

I had my reservations about him, and im still not 100% convinced he is a good enough playmaker under pressure, but he is improving every year, so i am more positive that he could adapt and improve in the areas he needs to play here.

I've heard read several reports that he is a big fan of Rice. This was from today

That's the one thing that would make me feel a little better about Rice, his support for the club is clearly legit and not a PR move but I also can't help but worry if that (like with Lukaku twice) is driving the interest even more than how he fits into the setup.

As ruthless as we are when it comes to letting go of managers when it's not working we seem to be a sucker for the Disney story when it comes to player's.

We don't miss someone of his quality but we sure do miss someone that takes responsibility upon himself and scores a winner because it means something to them

The most hilarious thing of all is the Lukaku disaster probably means we need to consolidate finances now a bit and can’t afford this outlay. Funny comparing them though.

Rice - Genuine natural ‘leader’

Lukaku - Fake leader, loser down to the core, not a role model.

Rice - Chelsea fan, his whole family Chelsea fans.

Lukaku - Chelsea ‘fan’ when it suits him, fake marketing campaign

Rice - Young, homegrown quota, future Kante replacement

Lukaku - Old, homegrown quota, Tammy was better

Whilst I very much doubt he will be saying too much in public as they speak actions speak louder than words and the fact that he has been offered a decent contract uplift from WHU when he has two and a bit years left ( not including another year option  ) suggests to me WHU will get twitchy and there either is some sort of clause, his agent will use the threat of a Webster or something . But irrespective his interview talking about staying in South London isn’t really a million miles away from the sort of terminology that Lukaku has been slaughtered for.

With some clever transfers out it’s not inconceivable that he alongside the likes of Gallagher and even possibly Broja and some Bosmans will see an efficient rebuild.

I want him. We lack leaders, and could lose Azpi and Rudiger in the summer too which would leave us with minimal captain material. He would also offer us some muscle and John Terry-esque passion in the middle of the field. Couple that with being a Chelsea fan, and Mounts best mate what's not to like? I think we need a major removal of dead wood in the summer though, and we definitely have more important areas to strengthen but I Rice is the player I would be most happy to join.

Absolutely.

If we are prepared to pay the asking price I am pretty sure he would choose us over other teams. He was a childhood Chelsea fan, and has hinted that he would prefer to stay in the South-East. He looks like the type of player who would make a great captain too.

If our CBs do depart I hope we do sign him as it sends out a message to the rest of the league we are still one of the serious contenders despite first team players leaving.

Of course we will still have to buy quality players at CB.
