Be interesting to see what he thinks of it all. Chance to play for Pep, basically a guaranteed PL winners medal or several, would he want to jump ship? If he does and City put 80mill+ down on the table I could see it happening. His amortized FFP remaining cost is sitting at 20mill in the summer, would act as 60mill FFP profit. I don't want it to happen, but none of us could say City is not a level or two above us right now, is part of why we were so desperate to get Enzo in Jan in case them or Real made a move in the summer only sell if city pay mad money for him if city offer 50/60m they can f**k off
March 13, 20233 yr Doubt it happens. Based on his interviews and demeanour, he seems to be one of the rising leaders in our squad and actually gives his all in our games. Wouldn't be surprised if he becomes assistant captain or third in line once azpi and silva retire/leave.

I'd be surprised if he's able to negotiate higher than he is currently on, especially with his injury record. Clubs don't really spend huge money on wages for full backs ... even the likes of City and United. Yea this should work to our advantage, his reported wages raised a few eyebrows at the time but it’s certainly been justified now.

March 14, 20233 yr I think the new owners are so ruthless in a business sense that if Chilwell indicates in the summer that he doesn't want to sign a new contract and wants to go to City they will sell him there. Convinced of that actually. Same with Mount, they'll sell him to Liverpool if they offer a good amount for him. Imagine players like Chalobah, Gallagher and others will be up for sale as well.
April 10, 20233 yr According to David Ornstein in the athletic he is on the verge of signing a new deal with us. Excellent news if true.

We have long poked fun at Kane for picking to sign that stupid deal and costing him winners medals. Ben is one of the best in the business, so is Enzo and Reece. If we don't pick up quickly either these lads fall in to the Kane and Shearer trap or they demand moves to teams that will win trophies. I would have laughed off such links under Roman as he did not tolerate us failing for too long. With these owners I do have faith in that to happen.

You had some audacity to criticize my pessimism in your reasons to be optimistic thread. As if we would sell Chilwell, James, or Enzo this summer. What world are you living in?

Particularly when you keep posting about it. In no world do we sell James or Enzo this summer. Chilwell getting an extension this summer also solidifies our desire to keep him, yet you again are blowing the tune of we want to sell him. Edited April 10, 20233 yr by Sconnie Blue

Not that we desire to sell them, not now not in years to come, clearly what we want is to become the best around, that is what Todd stated, that after all will help return the best amount of cash on their investment. More that if we don't see something like this come to pass that world class players like these guys will be tempted by greener pastures, serial winners with bottomless pockets like Real or City. James perhaps not, he is a Chelsea boy and desires to be our captain. Maybe if we do not achieve success and end out of the CL for a few years in a row he sticks around, like Shearer did. Chilwell is not a Chelsea boy though, and Enzo jumped after 6 months for a bigger club with more money and prestige. I just do not see such a talented and driven player accepting staying around if we continue to flounder for years when surley he would have offers form the very best, given what a cracking player he is. To hold on to our best players we need to be one of the best imo, and I am seriously doubting Todd and co ability to produce that.

He's proper and fully dedicated and good, after winning the World Cup he got the confidence to say to himself that he's decent enough to come to the best club.

April 11, 20233 yr Ben coming back into fitness is the only bright spark in an otherwise dark and dismal season. So expect him to be injured again soon.

April 11, 20233 yr Great news. Chilwell is a superb player, and is one of the few in the squad we couldn't realistically upgrade upon. In addition to that, he is one of the very few whose performances this season have lived up to his ability level. Other than Thiago Silva, he is really the only one from that insane summer 2020 transfer window who has been an unqualified success.
