Weird thing I've noticed that Chilwell is getting stick online.

Is this just because he's English? Have I missed something? He's one of our best players.

Said it on the Mount thread when the rumour mill first got going, there's a bizarre hatred and xenophobic view to English players at Chelsea with a lot of the overseas fans. First it was Mount and CHO that they hounded now it looks like Chilwell and Chalobah are the next victims. The vocal minority of our fans are complete scum and embarrass us daily on social platforms.

To be fair, it wasn't just the overseas fans with CHO. Am reliably informed that the "CHO is pants campaign" was started by some guy going by the name of @loz

That ironically can be interpreted as a xenophobic view towards overseas fans.

It's not that deep. I think what's going on is the usual blowback from overhyping of the English contingent.

There are foreign players who are sometimes better but don't get given an easy ride by the English media or general populace as their English counterparts do.

Believe it or not these things are noticed and it builds up to the extent that the moment the English players slip up slightly, they get hammered because time and time again fans, not just overseas fans, see the varying degree of preferential and favourable media outlook one gets over the other.

I think that's all it is. I live in Scotland and it's the same. I wouldn't call Scotmen overseas fans and whilst we know of the existing English Scottish rivalry, you do see the same behaviour and attitude filter from National team level to club level.

It's not Xenophobia deep.

As for social media embarrassment, that's the general human theme e see these days. The introduction of social media into our lives has seen us exhibit our meanest streak as humans. One where accident victims are filmed for the gram rather than rushed to and helped, one where  grown adults walk up to strangers, say the most obnoxious things and provoke reactions so they can gather up as much views to buoy up clicks and subs and just generally become degenerate in the name of being a so called content creator and influencer.

It just brings out the worst in humanity generally even though it can and is used in some quarters to be a force for good.

I don't know how to classify it, but there is a strange section of many clubs support, who are overseas, on twitter, vocal and spout the most insane sh*t.

Man united have it where it's endless "greenwood needs to come back" comments.

What is unfortunate is that for a English/British fan, they will then just assume that's what the majority of overseas fans are like when it really is just the weirdos.

In Britain you'd be arrested for half the vitriol spouted by these 'fans'. They can get away with it on the other side of the world and target largely English players. Wouldn't be surprised to see Maguire have a mental breakdown one day with the sh*t he gets.

What makes it even worse is that journalists now take the worst direct quotes from Twitter and push them out in articles. So then, people see these that wouldn’t see them usually on social media and then a bigger picture gets painted!

There was a time about 12 years or so ago, they would take some good posts from here, but since Twitter, it seems the worst comments they can find get posted on their articles. They know what they’re doing! Drama makes the world go round these days!

Yeah but he is overseas, morally.

Yep. Look at the difference with the media and even a section of United supporters when Ronaldo took pre season off compared to when Sancho took 1/3 of the actual season.

Sorry but it's nonsense it's largely British players.

In the last 24 hours alone Casemiro has been getting routinely mocked for his pre season weight with a picture of him being edited to underneath a kebab shop menu.

Tssss... it wouldn't even occur to us to mock Lukaku's weight!

Apology accepted. Getting called podgy isn't comparable to being hounded to leave the club daily on every social media post. My original point was more inhouse at the Chelsea following on social media too.

To be fair, I think most people understood Sancho took that time off for mental health reasons.

And Ronaldo took time off due to his daughters health scare a matter of months after he lost his son.

Basically my point is there's examples of people being biased against non English players just like there is vice versa.

Yeah that's true. I'm never going to like Ronaldo though 😂

This Chilwell hate is probably the most bizarre I've come across. He's not great in the first build up phase but its quite easily accommodatable, IE making him an inverted full back or a wingback.

I don't understand what you mean by not great at first build up phase?

I find him poor when it comes to retaining possession/progressing the ball when under a press in our half, especially in tight areas. Seen so many times Chiwell is pressed near the touch line he often makes the wrong pass or fails in execution to the midfielder/winger.

It's probably the one element in Cucurella's game that he has over Chilwell as he's a tidy passer in these same scenarios.
