Seen so many times Chiwell is pressed near the touch line he often makes the wrong pass or fails in execution to the midfielder/winger. It's probably the one element in Cucurella's game that he has over Chilwell as he's a tidy passer in these same scenarios. It is always difficult to keep the ball when you receive the ball very wide and you straight away get press because the sideline act as extra defender. This is especially true if you are left footed playing on the left hand side. Cucu is actually far worse when he receive the ball wide. Cucu dribbling ability is just atrocious. I can't remember which game that was but it was the same play again and again. Cucu received the ball wide in our own half, lose the ball = dead. However I agree with you, Cucu in general is a better passer than Chilwell.

I've seen a past his expiration date Azpilicueta do far better than Chilwell in executing passes from out wide to effectively evade a press. Either a sharp ball to Kante/Jorginho that beats two attacking pressers or from out wide skinning the touchline to the winger. I think Chilwell out of all our full backs is the worse in that department. Cucurella for me I've seen on multiple occasions beat a press with his passing towards the midfield to begin the transition. I think we will likely see Caicedo/Santos drop down into the backline, spreading out the CBs and making the James/Chilwell inverted with Enzo. Edited July 22, 20232 yr by Sconnie Blue

He's one of our best players. Ive never seen any stick against Chillwell on line. One of the advantages of not having any social media presence at all All my information comes from reliable sources. The Shed End mostly !😂
September 2, 20232 yr Peculiar player , some days he looks like an elite full back then other days like today he’s slicing shoots like a non league player and has his first touch bouncing 4 feet in front of him.
September 2, 20232 yr Pochettino talked in his prematch presser about not caring about nout price tag, only performance. Many managers claim this, but often we only see it applied to certain players. I rate Ben highly, but he has been really poor so far this season. So with that being the case I expect Maatsen to get a shot the next game in this winger role, unless Pochettino is going to apply this rule to some players, and not to others.

Can see Cucurella ending up our first choice left back. Thought he did ok in the League Cup game, and put some decent crosses in. Our first choice left winger needs to be an actual left winger. I think I'd play Sterling there ahead of Mudryk, with Madueke at RW, as I see that being more effective than having Mudryk at LW and Sterling at RW. If all of that means Chilwell is on the bench, then so be it.
September 3, 20232 yr He hasn't been good since the beginning of the season, but I believe he needs to play on his natural position. I'm tired of this 5 in back formation.
September 3, 20232 yr He's starting far too deep on the pitch, he has no idea where he's supposed to he when we dont have the ball, or when we do. It's a sh*thouse move by the manager to use a defender as an out and out winger, while needing him to start deep to cover the 3 CB's were also playing.
September 4, 20232 yr Hope Forest was Poch's Conte v Arsenal moment and he switches it up now. Stop playing Chilwell as a winger. Flat back for, 3 natural attackers, 2 natural CB's on the pitch. GK Gusto Silva Colwill Chilwell Enzo Caicedo Sterling Palmer Mudryk Jackson Madueke/Maatsen/Mudryk are all interchangeable, don't care which start just stop having Chilwell as a winger. September 4, 20232 yr 😂😂😂 Nobody clearly want to answer why any manager want to play a lb over a winger. I would rather we lost giving it a go with this structure than the current players out of position and defensive bias we have shown.

September 6, 20232 yr De Zerbi would come here and see the very first contractual obligation on his manager contract.. - Must play more than 4 defenders.

I wonder if this will be an earth shattering climb down and apology from our resident argumentative brother, or instead, if he will continue to argue on, and point to the same website as he did yesterday (the one with enzo on the wing) as "proof" that we are playing a back 5. I know where my money is....come on gol, please prove me wrong!!! I will donate £50 to the shed end beer fund if this post gets 20 likes and Gol admits that he was wrong and talking sh*t all along. We're almost there and @Gol15 will do his bit, I'm sure. Better transfer the money now!

Come on Gol.... make theshedend take my money and quench mods thirst. We're playing with 3 CBs, just like under Tuchel. Call it a back 5 or a 3-4-3 or 3-4-2-1 I don't care, I posted pics that clearly show Disasi, T.Silva and Colwill being those 3 CBs. Google says so too: FbRef also: The fact that the players rotate during the match when we don't have possession or during certain situations well, that alone doesn't change this fact. Chilwell playing as a winger or full-back makes little to no difference in what I'm saying, he's just pushing forward just like Gusto. Colwill, Silva, Disasi prior to the N.Forest goal, in front of them, Caicedo. Where do you see here a 4-3-3 when it's clear that Disasi isn't a RB nor Colwill a LB. Otherwise if any of them were playing that, it would leave T.Silva as the lone CB which simply isn't the case.
