August 20, 20205 yr It's got Arsenal written all over it ... retirement home of choice for 30+ Brazilians ... they'll be making an offer for Ronaldinho when he gets out of prison next 🙂

August 20, 20205 yr i doubt he would take a 1 year deal, but this would be a great signing. Could prevent a potential panic buy, if we don´t find great oportunities on the market this summer
August 20, 20205 yr I said we should take Silva on a free weeks ago. Would love this signing on a 1+1 year deal. Sell one of Rudiger/Christensen and bring him in.

Would love to have Thiago Silva around, he could certainly excel for us on the pitch and will be a much needed presence in the dressing room, a far superior option to Pique! August 20, 20205 yr I don't share your enthusiasm guys. Thiago Silva has a good reputation and resume but he is a big time liability when it matters the most. Leader that has screwed up so many big matches? OK.... if we can't afford to spend another 100-ish for a defender, then this is definitely a must deal. Actually I approve it now that I think of it. Spend all the money on the attack and midfield, secure them zones for the next 7-8 years and just wait for the right opportunity in a season or two to bring Van Djik type in the D. We all knew that we are not going to spend a billion this summer.
August 20, 20205 yr This allows us to get our world class attack and bridge to next year to spend big on defence, I like this deal a lot. People underestimate how good zouma and tomori are physically all they need is a leader telling them where do be. Remember zouma under Mou before he got injured? He was immense.

I remember thinking at the time that it really showed how reliant Brazil was on his leadership! I put this guy up there along side the likes of Terry, Carvalho, Ferdinand, Vidic, Kompany, amazing defender in his prime! But at 36 i don't know. He could be a great signing and do the business for 2yrs, or we could end up with an injury prone slow liability on high wages 🤷♂️

I won’t be going anywhere near him, he is still a fine player but needs to move to a slower team and play in a low block defence. He will be exposed in the PL, and would be a disaster in Frank’s high line defence. If there is no quality CB out there, buy a quality LB & GK and sort the centre next summer. Conte is trying to get rid of Skriniar and is trying to swap him for Ndombele. Might not be the worst idea to swap one of Kante/Jorginho for Skriniar, and swap + cash one of Batshuayi/ Christensen for Rice also.
August 20, 20205 yr The biggest issue form him is the language barrier how do you command a back line of you can’t talk the common language of your teammates?

August 20, 20205 yr Thiago Silva is still at the top level, despite his age. How is he with injuries though? Caues that was always one of his biggest issues. Would be great if we can get him on a free and also sign another top CB like Gimenez - What a pairing that would be!

Thing is with age, the new training techniques and recovery, diet, supplements, look at Ronaldo, he is still world class, Zlatan signed for AC Milan another year at 38, if a player keeps in good condition they can get a good couple of years on top of what they could in the past. If as you said he is injury free I reckon we can get a very decent season out of him.
August 20, 20205 yr Going to Fiorentina and getting £70k a week, if we were in for him he wouldn't entertain that offer. Probably just too old for us.
August 21, 20205 yr The only sources reporting that seem to be The Daily Mail/The Sun, both of which are sh*t. I wouldn't mind having him at Chelsea, because he has obvious pedigree, is a winner and is built for a possession-oriented side because of his ability to play out the back. That said, he is injury prone and his recent fitness record isn't that great in light of his age - I can't imagine that he'd get through a full PL season. He'd have to be managed very carefully. I do agree that he's more likely to go to Milan/Fiorentina than Chelsea though. Fiorentina already have one veteran in Ribery who's seen it all and won it all, so no doubt they're looking for the defensive equivalent to give their backline a bit more steel. I would have thought they would be focusing on strengthening their attack, though. Defensively Fiorentina are reasonable, but from what I've seen of them there just aren't enough goals in their side.

August 21, 20205 yr Fantastic news. Still one of the best CB's in the world. Obviously a short-term solution but he'd massively strenghten us for a season or two. On a free its a no-brainer.
