Must admit to being impressed by Chalobah who I thought played really well.

Hopefully Ziyech injury isn’t serious. He had looked impressive until his injury.

Well done to Kepa for saving that last penalty.

Very sad to see Ziyech get injured. He can't catch a break. In terms of creating goals it we just lost our main asset. 

Havertz's penalty was awful but he shouldn't get too down. I would love to see him use more power in all parts of his game.

Good play from Tuchel to put Kepa in. Mendy is also showing signs of weakness. Passing mistakes and lapses of concentration. Not talking about his slip. 

Super Cup is a cup but a bit of a fabricated showpiece. It is hard to get too excited over it. Anyway loved to see us take it. 

Yeah - Kovacic was very hit and miss - but also made a couple of crucial interventions when it mattered.

Rudi probably was at fault a bit for the goal - given it was his poor pass under little pressure straight to them in our half that resulted in the goal. Apart from that was really good.

Yes Havertz needs to show a little bit more for me.. He seems to be playing in a safe zone for now. Needs to find the extra gear. May not be a popular question but i am still trying to figure out his style. 

Mendy - i think had 2 minute spell where he first quicked the ball out of touch when trying to find Rudi, then straight to them. But also made a good save and a block. Villareal deserved to be 1-1 by the end of the 90.

 

Villarreal was outplayed during the first 30 minutes and it looked like it was going to be an easy game... But then we were lucky when they hit the bar and in the second half Mendy saved the shot that hit the post as well, their goal through our left side was really well executed and they deserved that extra time for sure.

Respect to their fans and team.

Poor game over all, midfield was terrible. We desperately need a striker as all we saw in attack today was the same weakness as last season. Pulisic was shockingly bad when he came on to replace Ziyech who was our only decent attacker all game. Werner was Werner, Mount brought some pace and directness when he came on but just didnt get into the game. 

The game going to extra time was a disgrace though, 3 days before the first game of the season. Just go direct to penalties for f**ks sake.

Fantastic night, not the greatest performance and we went downhill fast when Kante went off, but a solid night.

That doesnt sound right at all! He looks around 80kg max (typically!) Although I wasnt looking for that last night. A bit of size will help him im sure.

What a start to the season.

Chalobah, I had heard people taking about him and thinking surely not the m/f we moved on and now know we have a decent CB with the same name. Very impressive game for a youngster.

Alonso had his best game for some time, unlucky not to score and put some decent crosses in. 

Ziyech continues his goal scoring so unlucky he gets injured, hope he stays this pre-season has shown now for me he has a place here.

Havertz great pass for the goal and was decent at other times and putting in more of a shift than I have seen before.

Werner still not clinical yet had one shot on target and his movement creates space for the other attackers.

Mendy was important made two vital stops by my count, one from Gerard Moreno (who were linked with and did sod all for Spain) and who later scored. A good goal yet neither Kova nor Rudiger followed his move............

CHO not terrible not great either, very safe and fell over a few times...........

Rudiger watch those follows throughs.

Kova busy and trying to get us forward at every opportunity.

Kante great match and unlucky not to score, a save for me not a miss, on that point the ref got a few things wrong fortunately not just in their favour. 

Zouma was decent too and unlcuky not to score.

Subs, Jorgy, Christensen made sense and did ok. Mount unlucky not to score, Pulisic better and looked likley to score too.

Kepa sub, was clever stopped two by my count and won us the tie.

Nice moment with everyone running to jump on him.

That can't be right. 90kg at 6ft would mean he would look like a bodybuilder.

An enjoyable game, with plenty of room for improvement.

Fantastic to break the Super Cup drought after 23 years and three attempts. Villarreal were a competitive opponent and made us earn the trophy.

Pleased that Kepa was pivotal in the penalty shootout and vindicated Tuchel's decision to bring him on right at the end of Extra Time. After what happened in the League Cup Final in 2019, this was a sign of redemption for the much maligned goalkeeper.

Trevoh Chalobah is an exciting prospect. Havertz was my MOTM.

Seeing a crowd in attendance made me smile. Never going to take the sound of fans singing and cheering for granted ever again.

Fingers crossed on Ziyech's injury, which is a real shame considering the strong pre-season he's had. Hoping the injury is not as serious as anticipated.

Great evening at Windsor Park. Although the match itself wasn’t brilliant the result made up for it.

My take on the match:-

In prematch warm up Kepa has some good ball skills, first class keepie-uppie and Kova never missed in shootie-in.

I thought Chalobal give a good account of himself. One big mistake which could have been costly when he initially done well but tried to be a bit clever instead of safety first. Didn’t get a lot of help from CHO who I thought was generally poor.

Mendy done well apart from a couple of brain fart moments in kicking out.

Rudiger needs to be careful with the follow through, looked a bit reckless and refs will keep an eye out for him.

Alonso was MOTM for me, worked hard, covered well and was probably our best attacker.

Kante had some genius interceptions, you wonder how he does it and rarely misses a pass even when under pressure. Our midfield was poorer when he went off.

Up front Havertz had some nice touches  but I thought we were pretty toothless. 
 

For me Pulisic looks like a player playing about two leagues above him can fully understand why TT doesn’t play him much. 
 

Really happy for Kepa in the shootout. Will do his confidence the world of good.

Far as Pulisic, Ziyech, Werner and probably CHO go the arrival of Lukaku will either be what makes or breaks their times with us.

With the big man making space and giving them a large target to aim for they will now be expected to up their goals and assists. If not then they all face the chopping block.

Havertz and Mount will be safe imo.
