What about his pressing/defensive stats? Is he a worker like Mount or a pointer like Lukaku?

he has terrible defensive stats, but that's probably because barcelona doesn't press

Do we want another possible passenger when it’s known that the system requires hard working players to press high up the pitch? Just to clarify, I’m not against signing him, I’m just curious as to whether he’d be a good fit to the system Tuchel has used so far with us.

You would hope TT would know what he needs and if Dembele has it or not.

i reckon tuchel can make him adapt to what he wants from him. and almost every other winger you can think of will have similar defensive stats, they might have higher pressures numbers but that's usually because of the system they play in. Our wingers have higher pressures numbers (Mount 81, Pulisic 77, Havertz 86 for example)

Yeah, and look at the state of their finances. They have been making stupid signings for years now.

Yeah but the point remains and he was very good at Dortmund which is why he went for loads, On a free like i say worth a punt

Everyone wants to ship people out but there's no news about anything really atm, Boehly needs to put out some PR on his game plan for the coming season!

This could be a great deal if he can stay fit. I hope that the Chelsea medical team really do a good job assessing the risks because that is the key. I was watching Dortmund years ago and I saw this guy carry the ball forward so easily so much better than anyone else and thought who is this guy and that was Dembele.

I am sure the attitude problem can be overcome, its just fitness and finding someone to finish what he creates.

This is exactly why I can't help but get excited over him potentially joining. The guy is on another level entirely when fit. If anything, last season only proves it's a risk definitely worth taking seeing as he somehow managed to top the La Liga assists chart in just 21 appearances for Barcelona. And when you factor in his contract situation and the fact that Tuchel clearly admires him, it's a no-brainer.

I'm willing to bet that if we sign him and he manages to stay fit he'll probably go down as one of our greatest players in recent history.

Would take Sterling over him any day.
I don’t see how he fits our system, doesn’t work hard enough.
But Tuchel knows better than me for sure!

Tbf Pulisic was awful at Dormund and they still managed to fleece Marina for a huge fee.

Dembele looked a top talent, there was a time when he was rated more highly than Mbappe in France.

He's a special talent and was always going to command a huge fee when he left Dortmund.  Signing Coutinho for a similar fee was far far worse, decent player but clearly wasn't ever going to be one of the best players in the world like his fee would suggest.

Barca are terribly ran in general

No doubt he's a special player but his legs are glass at this point.

Latest update: Just to keep the peeps updated not much has changed, according to my sources though this is all but wrapped up unless major change Dembele will reunite with Tuchel. Apparently he's  already signed the pre contract, expect Dembele along with Kounde to arrive this summer.

Only thing left to speculate would be squad number. Assuming we sign a more natural fit for the striker position I would expect the number 9 will go to a new signing maybe Jesus? If Werner stays and no new number 9 signs maybe he takes number 9 freeing # 11.

Either way number 17 is free and I would expect a new forward to take that so could be the most likely squad number for Dembele.

Out of curiosity had Costa been our number 9 instead do you guys think it would have held any psychological significance? For instance when he had a few of his dry spells would we have attributed it to the number 9 curse, and the way he left as well.

I saw a post on twitter the other day that said the only way to settle the goat debate between Messi and Ronaldo is to stick them both at Chelsea and give them the number 9 shirt 😂 whoever performs is the greatest no doubt!

Morata switched from 9 to 29 after the birth of his twins, but the psychological gain was zilch :laugh2: Perhaps he should have avoided any squad number with a 9 in it altogether. Diego Costa largely escaped the 9 hoodoo despite wearing #19, though, Anelka the same with #39 🤔 Hmmmm, curiouser and curiouser.

It's just the 9 shirt itself. If I remember correctly JFH was the last player to play well using that number and he still won F all...lol

None whatsoever. The failures failed because of their talent/suitability or lack of it.

Marina does not make football decisions! If those that do wanted Puli then that's their choice. If the cost was within budget then there's nothing to say. If that's how they want to spend the allocated money it's their decision to make. If the numbers were beyond the budget then they had the option to pitch Roman for a top up.

I don't understand why this myth about Marina's role won't go away.

Hold on.. what is the definition of “very good”? He had 6 league goals & 12 assists. To put that into context Sancho had 12 league goals and 14 assists at the same age for Dortmund. Reason why I am asking is there is this narrative he was a “wonder kid” which he really wasn’t. Some fans also seem to think Tuchel knows him well,  he only managed him for 1 season.

Reality is it was one of the ridiculous deals made by Barca during the period. Dortmund paid €12m for him, and a year after Barca turned up with €105m.

I agree probably barca being barca hence the billion quid debt they had but FFP is a sham and oh look barca still getting all the players!

Point is if he flops all we spent was wages which after the lukaku scam sounds like a good time to me haha

I think if he flops, or any attacker that comes in for that matter, fingers need to be pointing at Tuchel and the coaching staff.

Graveyard for attackers.

You are forgetting he & his agent is pocketing around £35m.

Fingers crossed he does well but not a fan of the deal at all. Seems very lazy (the deal) and lumps the club with another high earner we can’t shift if he flops. Personally would have added a bit to the money he is pocketing & get Raphinha on a 1/3 of his wages, or taken a long term view like Klopp & bought the talented Olise who I reckon in 2-3yrs will be incredible & on low wages also. Let’s be honest we aren’t winning the league in the next couple of seasons, so a measured approach with a long term outlook. Liverpool & City are starting a rebuild because their teams have peaked already, but seems Tuchel wants a player who is ready.
