If we do sign him it looks more likely to be a contract agreement now, with him moving on a free in the summer.

Hey now, I distinctly remember Saul completing a couple passes and making a few tackles about 3 weeks ago when he played for the 4th time this season. He’s turning a corner!

Based purely on the ever credible tabloid media it is looking more and more likely that Utd or Chelsea are the most likely to buy Dembele. Injury record at Barca has been pretty shocking and his wage demand is going to be a monster. But he is still young and his fee will be relatively low. I'd be happy if we rolled the dice and gambled on him. Has more ability than any of our current options if he can get anywhere near the player he was at Dortmund. 

We look massively  short of ideas up front and maybe just need a little injection of 'something new' to inject a bit of life over the rest of the season. If it gives us that boost and we secure a top four finish it will have been money we'll spent. Can't see anyone else being an option at this late stage in the window.

He is a far superior player to Odoi. They aren't even in the same country let alone the same ballpark.  But yes the injury thing is clearly a massive gamble.

Because if Tuchel genuinely wants him then, in the summer, there will be far more competition. £18m, in today's market, to jump the queue is buttons. Christ we might even get that for Pulisic and he can't even impress for America!

He won't be cup tied. CL rules changed a few years back where you can register 1 player only who played for a different side in the group stages.

Is irrelevant though as we are not signing anyone for the first team this window.

He is a crock though on very big wages. Not happening this Jan anyway; we will need to get rid of one of our forwards to make space, and no one has been linked with a move away.

In the summer it will be a lazy transfer and typical Chelsea move, Rafinha & Bowen look better options

He has totally the wrong mindset to be a real winner. 

Selfish and with an overinflated ego. Gassed on his own hype.

His fitness issues aside I wouldn't want him. Add those in and he becomes a truely dreadful prospect.

He'd be on mega money and since he's young likely a long deal. We'd never shift him when he ineveitably causes trouble or doesn't perform/gets injured. 

 

Ducavis is right, Bowen and Rafinha are much more enticing propositions if we're looking for a winger. Dembele is dressing room poison.

Is he? Odoi is frustrating as anything, but Dembele is hardly a worldbeater, or maybe I just never drank that particular kool-aid. 

Just because Barca were mental enough to slap down 140 large for him back when he'd showed a season of promise in Rennes, a decent season at Dortmund and had a market value 1/5th that price.

Or is it just another case of a player who looked "great" in the Bundesliga ?

Sancho is hardly pulling up trees at United, and he had far superior numbers for Dortmund than Dembele did ... 

Dembele's current career numbers basically look like a slightly worse Salomon Kalou - I think we need to aim for better than that ?

Oh I'm not saying he is a word beater. Barcelona were in money heaven when they pissed that up the wall for him. They would have thrown 100m at Terry Hurlock at that time!

I really like Saint-Maximin, really exciting to watch, but the last thing we need is another attacker with poor end product 😄

Staying at Barca as not even PSG were interested in paying 20mill for him.

Apparently he prefers us and a summer free move is possible.

Personally I think if Dembele was worth signing Liverpool would have tried to sign him. They were great instincts for signing attacking players.
