Christopher Nkunku to Chelsea

After that positive pre-season things are looking bleak once more. We can't make a deal and now Nkunku is out for a couple of months.

While it wouldn't surprise knowing our luck with injuries that source is questionable at best. I would wait until somebody more reliable confirms anything.

That would be rather unfortunate, and we'll see plenty of Murdryk, Maatsan and Chukwuemeka.  Wonder what the status is with Madueke.

Really hoping that is unreliable source.  Its strangely similar to the impact knee injury that also kept him out of WC.

There are big gaps in the early fixtures I assume for International games , so hopefully not as many missed games. ?

Good point. We only have 3 PL games Aug and 3 in Sep, so that helps. Still leaves 80%+ of season, ready for our November rally (this year will be different)

Being a Chelsea fan isn't for the faint of heart. Had to be the last game of pre season didn't it, disappointing to say the least as Jackson, Nkunku looked like a great partnership either excellent chemistry both on and off the field.

Have to sign a top attacker now, can't rely on Sterling (who I think will have a good season despite the negativity around him from some fans) and Jackson as our primary goalscorers.

Maybe this is just denial but surely we'd have seen a club statement by now if that news is true?

At same time, I always feel the less we hear from the club, the worse the injury is. For example, there was rumours from reliable journalists last week that he will be out for weeks rather than months, however the club did not report it, which makes me worry that they are thinking the severity could be worse.

We'll assume the source is reliable, although I'm highly dubious of an account that has about 700 followers being the only one reporting so for now I don't believe it, but I think our depth is good enough for it to not be TOO damaging assuming it's only a couple of months.

Haven't kicked a ball in anger yet and 6 more with him on the treatment table -

Christopher Nkunku Knee Injury Aug 03: 'The doctors are checking him, and I hope it is not a big issue. He fell in the action, which was maybe a penalty, and he feels something in his knee. We hope he can be back quickly with the team. We need a few days to assess him.' 21/10/2023 Currently Being Assessed Ruled Out
Benoit Badiashile Mukinayi Baya Thigh Injury May 24: 'It is an unfortunate, complicated injury. It is months rather than weeks. I hope for him that the timing of it over the summer means that he won't miss games.' 25/08/2023 Currently Being Assessed 25%
Armando Broja Knee Injury Dec 14: 'Scan results have unfortunately confirmed an ACL rupture and that surgery will be required. Armando will work with the medical dept and is expected to miss the remainder of 2022-23.' 13/08/2023 Currently Being Assessed 25%
Chukwunonso Madueke Thigh Injury Jul 26: 'Noni is in Philadelphia; he has a little tightness in his hamstring. It's not a big thing - it is something that we think can be sorted in the next few days.' 13/08/2023 Currently Being Assessed 50%
Wesley Fofana Knee Injury Jul 18: 'Wesley has undergone anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction surgery. He will now begin his recovery and work with the club's medical department at Cobham during his rehab phase.' No Return Date Currently Being Assessed Ruled Out
Trevoh Chalobah Other Jul 30: 'I hope it's not a big issue, but now, we need to assess. It doesn't mean it is big. It was a precaution, but we need to assess him [over] the next few days. We don't believe it is big but hope also.' No Return Date Currently Being Assessed 25%
Marcus Bettinelli Other Apr 26: 'Bettinelli injured, recovering.' No Return Date Currently Being Assessed Ruled Out

Great start to the season. The best player and only one actually out of diapers we’ve signed and he’s gonna miss a chunk of the season. And a knee injury. Notoriously difficult to get over.

We better sign someone, Vlahovic probably, or we’ll likely be trailing the other fourth place chasers before we even reach October.

We knew his injury record was poor when he signed, this is not about being unlucky, it was inevitable.

The frustrating thing is we have players at the club who we simply cannot build a team around due to their bodies, there is a asterisks over their name permanently. Fofana had a horrific injury record before we signed him but we did so anyway, it’s mind blowing.
