Even a clown like Rishi Sunak was popular when he was giving money away. Given we came in with a 60m bid for Raphina straight away I can't imagine Leeds would be anything less than thrilled with Boehly.

He's agreed fees with pretty much every club he's been negotiating with and the main reason we're missing out on the players is because we're shopping at the top shelf (which sadly means some of the big dogs will gazump us at times).

To play devil's advocate wasn't "paying clubs what they want and being done with it" what many wanted Marina to do?

July 8, 20224 yr Boehly seems to be somewhat hands on with the management of the club. Nit sure if he will continue to be that way or if once he feels he's got a good system in place he will step back. Edited July 8, 20224 yr by Valpo

I think that its because its the players that are getting wobbly, which implies that it is their personal deals that are falling short of their expectations. Therefore is the club just offering too little. None of this breed give a sh*t about dreaming of playing for Barca when they were kids or Bayern have always been in their hearts. That's all bollox. This isn't the 1970's, these players have been in the academy system since they were 7 -8. There is only one overriding thing these blokes care about. If Sterling comes, its got very little to do with Chelsea or being nearer to home, or winning more trophies. There is a bit of that but very little to do with that really. You pay him nigh on 300k a week, he'll kiss the badge all day long for you and do as many shaving and holiday commercials as you like.

Same. Was following this a bit on Redcafe and was quite surprised at how unequivocally negative his trip to Barcelona was seen. Even if he was "just selling Alonso and Azpi" - what's wrong with being a new big player wanting to get to know personally the other big players? I mean I wouldn't be 100% sure whether he could explain the offside rule in football or not but I'm pretty sure he didn't accidentally became a super rich business man without knowing a thing or two about negotiations. Also Barcelona is almost always worth a trip on its own. 😄
July 8, 20224 yr Told Barcelona's offer for Raphinha matches Chelsea's in total. The base fee is less but the total package now the same. Leeds and Barcelona have been in advanced talks for the past 24 hours. Nothing accepted yet but a fast resolution now expected due to Leeds pushing it. Laporta said a few days ago "no deadline" on deal. But Leeds have forced Barca to act because they (& Raphinha) want everything resolved fast. Leeds have already replaced Raphinha with Luis Sinisterra. Barcelona gave their latest offer yesterday with talks on it continuing today. Told Raphinha won't remain at Leeds beyond this window, and Leeds therefore don't want a transfer to drag on. Barcelona (as they have throughout) feel they will reach an agreement, but with door remains opens for Chelsea if they don't get this offer accepted. Big 24-48 hours ahead. Leeds have made it clear Barca can't delay. An 'urgent' transfer is now required or Chelsea will become favourites. Contrary to some reports, Raphinha is very open to #CFC, not only if a Barca move falls through but also if it doesn't happen quickly.

They are finding ways that seem beyond the realm of what is being reported based on their financial restrictions.

July 8, 20224 yr 18 minutes ago, azpi28 said: they are full of sh*t is what they are Yep, they want Azpi and Alonso, but they can't even register any new players yet. Their social media and Youtube account were hyping up the signing of Christensen yesterday, but they can't even register him to play. Same goes for Kessie! So they owe their current players like De Jong 17 million, can't register Christensen and Kessie, trying to sign Azpi and Alonso even when they can't register players. They want to buy the likes of Kounde and Raphina for 60+ million and buy one of the best strikers in the game from Bayern Munich. How is this allowed? Any other team would be disqualified from their league at this point. Edited July 8, 20224 yr by Scott Harris

July 8, 20224 yr Current reports are Barca want Raphinha more than Dembele and intend to only sign up one of them.
July 8, 20224 yr wouldn't it be lovely to play Barcelona in the CL and humble them Edited July 8, 20224 yr by azpi28
July 8, 20224 yr Boehly goes for a meeting with Laporta, 24 hours later, Dembele and Raphinha both move closer to Barcelona. De ligt seems to prefer Bayern. Apparently we want De Jong but he prefers United. Its nice we are chasing some good players, and appear to have money to spend, but this looks very messy, scattergun approach. Can see this window being a disaster. Large amounts spent without improving.
