on average he misses only 3,7 games a season (i took out the corona virus because it doesn't have anything to do with how fit you are)

might explain the 5 year deal, as they are very confident in his physical fitness

Nah, Its €10M NET a year €10M = roughly £8.45M

£8.45M/12 = 704k net a month = £176kpw before tax

Aye before tax so we will be spending more than 300k a week gross for him.

Other than the money involved I am very happy at the prospect of him coming in. He is class and a big personality and leader I really hope gets Mendy back to his best.

Mmmmm.. not sure about the length of the contract TBH. How is the 5 Year broken down 3+1+1?  Would have rather have the club gone for DeLight and spent the money now unless they are banking on the young players coming through in a 2 - 3 years...if we hang on to them.

I don't think his age is as old as people are making it out to be. 31 years old is pretty much the age when centre backs are at their best. We could have 3 to 4 good seasons out of him before he starts to decline.

Won’t be too sure, and I think Roman’s 1yr policy saved the club on numerous occasions. Silva is an outlier, we shouldn’t revert to handing out fat contracts to over 30s just because it has worked out with him. Who would have thought Willian would be done 1yr after leaving us, even though fans had a pop at Roman for not handing him the 4yr contract he requested. There is a reason your Pep & Klopp are not signing over 30s.

I find it very hard to get excited about this signing, he’s 31. I’ve not watched him so hopefully it will be a pleasant surprise but I can’t get past his age.

Thiago Silva is a special player, I don’t get the same vibes on Koulibaly. Hope I’m wrong.

Footballers these days keep themselves in much better physical condition so 31 is the equivelant to 27/28 a few years ago. We will have him in his prime for the next couple of years and he is easily top 5 CB's in the world. Aggressive, great on the ball with both feet, quick, great leadership and captain material. Everything you want from a modern day centre-back and he will come in and easily be the 2nd best CB in the league.

Make no mistake, this is a big signing for Chelsea.

How is it 3.7 games?

2021/22: he missed 8 games

2020/21: he missed 8 games (taking out covid)

2019/20: he missed 11 games.

In a harder PL you would expect him to miss more games. Factor in Thiago who can play ever other game, it doesn’t look that smart.

I have never seen wages reported that way. Before tax, to me, would mean his taxes come out of the 176k we are paying him. As in, his taxable income is 176k per week and he takes home roughly 103k after taxes, based on your rate.

Depends which way it is said. The way the Twitter reporter stated KK would be paid 10mill Net, not Gross. Gross is the amount before tax is deducted, Net is the amount after taxes have been deducted.

Therefore if KK gets a Net of 10mill a year to take home then we have to be paying around 20mill Gross for him to get 10mill after the government take their cut.

Getting de light is out of our hands. It will be Raphina all over again with him preferring Bayern and we'll end up wasting the whole summer.

Agreed best we move on if he wants Bayern Bremer from Torino looks a good option.

I'm not saying he is going to be better than Rüdiger, only time can tell.  Rüdi did really well, but only under Tuchel really. I think with Koulibaly we could play a back 4 (not that i am against our current formation).

imagine Chilwell - Thiago Silva - Koulibaly - James as a back 4

that's a CB pairing with close to 1000 games under their belt

Nope, Silva is much better in back 3.

Well he did says average.

There are several years where he apparently didn't miss a single game.
Altough I am not sure this is 100% accurate.
As I remember him getting his head a bit concussed during a heading clash at Genk and would be surprised that he played the game after.

Or didn't miss a single game for Genk.
Then again. wikipedia says he played 64 games in 2 years. So maybe it's correct.

We just need him to play lcb for maybe one season and then he will play as ccb after that. As ccb, you don't need to move much hence you can play older player there

Great news. Top player, both better than Aké (although supposedly we're still interested in him) and is a more logical option for managing Colwill's transition into the first XI. Just a shame we didn't do this years ago...

Five years is a bit mad for a 31-year-old though!

I wonder if we get Koulibably over the line, whether that will mean we cool our interest in Ake and switch instead to a right centre back option ?

If Ake comes, and we keep Colwill, we'd have three left centre backs which is surely one too many ? Maybe Ake being considered for DM as a cheaper version of Rice ?

Is Colwill or any other youth player meant to wait while a 31yr old player sees out his 5yr contract.

The contract length is nuts, and I don’t think any other club would have entertained that. A 2yr + 1 yr option would have been tough but bearable.

In my opinion Koulibaly will likely be the one who plays right in the middle most of the time. T.Silva will be managed for the biggest and most important games which would see Koulibaly move over to RCB for those.

Also quite a bit of chatter about Tuchel looking to transition to a back four now. It's been reported he's gone with a back three to cover up Silva and Jorginho's physical limitations. In that case I assume Koulibaly would make up the CB pairing with Ake if we end up signing both. Think a switch is more likely next season though as I believe we will go all out for Rice in 2023.
