Kalidou Koulibaly

Done deal. Contracts exchanged, payment made, Medical done, 4 year contract signed, expected to fly out for the US soon and join the squad tomorrow or Saturday for official photos a day announcement:

Interestingly it is speculated he fancies the number 26 shirt number he had in Napoli, be interesting to see if he, Colwill or anyone else is allowed to take it.

Would admire that, as I would an attacker wanting the 25.

if Barkley can wear #8 than Koulibaly should be able to wear #26

I like him a lot in the Serie A. Don't know if he'll be able to carry that form into the PL.

He plays a lot like David Luiz

Huh?? I strongly disagree on that last sentence.

I mean I loved Luiz. I even have a jersey of him, but I see them both a very different defenders.

He is a very physcally strong player and hard player when he needs to.

Kalidou is also a very consistent and focused player. While Luiz this was probably Luiz his biggest issue.

He sometimes was a bit too nonchallant or had a more playful approach.

Or are you referring with the ball at the feet? They both were/are leaders on the pitch. Maybe in that aspect?

All that aside in my local football theam I have a lot of people with Italian roots that are big Serie A fans.

Mainly AC, Inter and Fiorentina fans. They all say that in the last 5 years Koulibaly has been top if not the best Serie A defender in the competition and that Napels will really feel this.

I remember that he also was a class above the rest back when he played in Belgium, but off course that competition is at a much lower level.

The videos take time..

I was laying awake trying to imagine where in LA or Las Vegas they are going to photograph Koulibaly

the Hollywood sign?

the welcome to Las Vegas sign?

mulholland drive?

some location where you can see the city from higher up ?

if I was in charge I would fly him to the Grand Canyon and put him beside Thiago silva and make a picture

that would be iconic

Likes to play with the ball at his feet, strong in the tackles. Commanding when he needs to be. Can be a bit too aggressive from time to time.

That's what I meant.

I believe the 25 is retired so no one will ever wear that again for us. Was always surprised we didn’t do the same with the 26.

We never really did those things in the Roman era. I personally find the whole shirt retirement thing to be a bit stupid. It would have been nice to have a few testimonials for some of our former players that retired though.

Unofficially both numbers are retired but officially the club have never said anything on the subject.

Ahh I stand corrected. I was certain that the No. 25 was retired.

I’d hate to see anyone else in it to be fair. Probably petty but yeah.

Zola remains my all time favorite player too. Though Drogba came close.

My view though is imagine if you were good enough to play for Chelsea and not just play, but be a "special one", would not playing in Zolas number feel that much more special? Would for me.
