Yep - and that short term Charlie’s on here still pine for him

Well let us see if we win another Champions League title anytime soon shall we.

A rebuild is fine, but we are basically attempting to rebuild so that we can get back to the point where Tuchel already had us, competing for the major titles.

Tuchel had us competing at the expense of long term planning - essentially wrecking the squad with unprogressive tactics and awful signings. Lukaku. Auba. k2. Cucu. Sterling. All over the hill pretenders or in Cucus case a never was (I actually don’t mind Cucu - not his fault we paid silly money for him)

The foundation was there with the team who won the UCL. But rather than build on that platform, with good planning and forward thinking (planning and tactics) - he doubled down on the dour, sideways, backwards rubbish.

I am forever grateful for Porto. An amazing night that was unexpected given how badly we had played for most of that season. But RDM also won us a UCL.  Avram got us to within a post. Doesn’t mean that they were cut out for Chelsea. And Tuchel - with his short termism really set us back.

About as imbalanced as I figured you'd be when it comes to Tuchel.

This thing about judging Tuchel's signings on how they looked under the worst permanent manager in our entire history (who you frantically defended) is just ridiculous. Koulibaly could very well have been a decent Silva/Rudiger replacement under different circumstances, Sterling was our top scorer last season and so on.

Remember when Rudiger & Christensen looked like complete donkeys for Lampard? And then became two of the best defenders in Europe under TT? That's all one need to conclude the manager matters a lot when it comes to performance.

And btw, this "fantastic" rebuild we are on involves committing £200m+ on the likes of Mydryk, Jackson, D.Fofana, Paez and Whisper Richards. Basically just a massive gamble that's unlikely to actually pay off.

There's no comparison between RDM and Tuchel, it's bad enough i have to make this point to opposition fans.

RDM we were outplayed thoroughly in the semi and final and got by due to sheer will power and interventions from above, the only 'luck' involved in our 2021 win was for the opposition that we didn't win our ties by more.

That said I do agree with you that his record in the market leaves a lot to be desired (something I addressed concern about before we even entered the market under him) but from a tactical point of view he was up there with Mou 1.0 for me.

And our good/great performances continued after the CL as well until anything that could go wrong happened in December of 22.

It's all spilled milk and history but before anyone puts Tuchel's achievements here down to luck or whatever i'd like to see anyone else have us top of the league in December, win 3 titles including a Champions League and get to every single domestic cup final possible.

It is not luck. Tactically tuchel is probably the best manager in the world.

But that is TT as tactician, TT as manager is whole another story.

I agree. He may have been history here anyways due to other issues but we'd be in Europe next season if he had been kept on until the end of the season and then consider the options then.

There is/was some weird correlation between not rating Tuchel and rating and wanting us to hire Potter when we fired him though. Guess that speaks for itself.

Agree, I think if tuchel had stayed we would have been in europe.

However, TT is a very difficult manager. Too tactical and too short term minded.

OMG you’re right, was he not one of the ones who were to go to saudi.

Thought he would have been one of the first ones out the door, suppose not many takers on whatever wage we pay him.

Olympique Marseille agreed personal terms with Pierre Aubameyang on a three year contract 🔵

◉ Auba has accepted OM proposal as he’d be open to try new experience in Ligue1 with Marseille project.

◉ He was also approached by Saudi clubs but his priority has always been to continue in European football.

◉ Chelsea are now prepared to let Pierre leave the club as negotiations between with OM will proceed soon.

Surely a negotiating stance? The way that is worded implies that there was ever a point at which we were not willing to let him leave the club.

He will surely do well alongside his fellow 'were class in 2016' alumni Dimitri Payet and Alexis Sanchez.

I'd have thought given their previous relationship, and given the fact that Bayern are in the market for strikers, that Tuchel might have fancied him as a squad player.

Apparently not.

Surprisingly, some team did value him more than a stickly old copy of razzle hidden under your mattress!
