This probably needs fixing:

And it seems Potter is not the one to fix that...

Tuchel always said the team creates enough to score more but he never felt important to distinct corners in that talk. Sarri was famous for having tons of different moves for corners. For me that is smart. Why use a lot of energy to get a corner and then blow it? Makes no sense at all.

Probably the very first thing we need to do is to find someone who can actually take a corner. When I played and being a winger, only 5'5" tall, I was put on corner duty, and can honestly say and take great pride in the fact that I NEVER once failed to get a corner over the first defender. At Chelsea, Willian was sh*te, Mount is no better and I think Galagher took one or two that were a failure too. It is demoralising for the players and the fans. I know the "backswing" space at the Bridge is pretty tight but there MUST be a member of the squad who can make a telling contribution.

A corner is as good as a free kick at the right feet and a really good corner will cause havoc in the best defences, so if I was Potter, I would find someone who can really cross a ball and train him, 2 hours a day on corner taking. No less than this and possibly more.

The sh*t corners go back as far as Lamps, if not further. It’s a Chelsea thing.

Dennis Wise was probably our last consistent corner taker. Wisey was great at drilling the ball flat, so it wasn’t floated giving no time for the keeper to come. Also was always good enough to beat defender on the first post area.

Sarri, Larry and Barry. Pfft. Jose had us as the corner kings par excellence. Getting a corner then was like winning a penalty. Drogba, Terry, Ivanovich, Ballack, Carvalho, Gallas also had a fantastic leap. Cahill was also brilliant in the air.

Players who have aerial ability, agression and timing equals goals from corners, not managerial systems. Plus players who can deliver the ball consistently from the corner flag.

Drogba is probably the greatest all round player I have ever seen in the air. Simply awesome.

We've been a team of essentially midgets for far too long, so it's nice to finally see a few players with a bit of height coming into the club.

Now all we need is someone who can actually cross a dead ball accurately. I'm staggered that seemingly no-one in our squad, pretty much all full time footballers from the age of 8, can do this simple skill. When seemingly every corner fails to beat the first man, it's like I'm watching Roger Federer shank every forehand into the net when 99 times out of 100 it simply shouldn't happen !!!

Spot on SF. And rumours that Boehly and the investment wallahs have lined up Tyrion Lannister to play alongside Jorginho will probably make it even harder to win a header in midfield.

Haha, if they were we might as well as kept wee Billy Gilmour.

Weren't we pretty good at corners a couple of seasons ago? With Zouma, Silva, Rudiger etc scoring a lot from corners. I seem to remember we were top scorers from corners, or at least up there.

That was when Kurt used to imagine the ball as a kitten and would do anything to get his nut on it.

I feel like we got the odd one every here or there but not as many as you would’ve expected with some of the size between them. Goals from corners really seemed to drop off once Drogba and Terry left and it feels like defending against corners, especially towards the end of close games is always nerve wracking.

i think more than corner takers.. we really are poor at attacking the ball in the air.. Thiago is just about 6, KK is 6'1 and unless we start havertz they are the tallest. It doesnt surprise me we concede so much and defend little from corners.. Thanks god we didnt sign kounde as a defender for the next 10 years..

From memory Fofana is good in the air.. but i think we need more help.

Ah remember when we had JT, Cahill, Essien, Drogba, Ballack etc to attack Lamps drive corners? Ah the days.

Potter could pick a team that has Fofana, Chalobah, Zakaria, Havertz, Loftus-Cheek and Broja in it, all of whom are 6'3", and which would help massively at both ends of the pitch !

Some stats here.

Very surprised to see Mount was in the top 5 corner takers in the league last year, with a success rate far superior to JW-P.

I miss Mata's free kicks and corners. They were quality almost every time.

He sure could, however if James, Mount, et al keep hitting hitting first man then it does not help offensively.

Should sign that Marcos Alonso bloke from Barca, takes a great set piece and is also tall for defending them… :blush2:
