Nice to get the win, but it was basically more of the same today. Rode our luck too much for my liking.

Was a more aggressive formation, but some things you just can't change.

Nice win today.

I noticed we played a bit more direct at times, which is needed as we are very predictable.

Problem still stands that forward players are not even getting shots on target - Mounts free kick from 6 yards out for example as well as Kai’s shot past the post.

That midfield is a huge problem though.

We are gonna have to be patient with GP as only a overhaul in personnel would possibly solve that.

Coming from behind isn’t something we do too often so that’s good.

I’ve lowered expectations with these players TBH so we’ll have to wait and see I suppose.

I’m happy we’ve gone for a type of different manager compared to normal, hopefully Todd will hold his nerve and give him a fair amount of time.

Congrats to GP on his first Chelsea win today.

Brought on 3 attacking players to try and win the game, so fair play for that !

Yeah but he took 3 attacking players off for them 😅. Not like we went superattacking to try and change the game. In general I'm pretty disappointed with how we play when chasing a result. We used to throw everything forward, play more direct, risk something. Often it may have been sticking a target man up front and playing long balls to him (especially under Mourinho), but we tried something. We showed some urgency and put the opponents under pressure. Nowadays it doesn't even really look like we wanna win. We just keep on passing the ball around slowly... Not a Potter problem though, it was already like this before.

Back on topic: Good, hard fought win for Potter in his first PL game for us, but we definetely need to improve a lot still. Curious to see what he can do with this team in the limited time he gets on the training pitch with them. Hopefully this win gives us some much needed confidence, so we can start playing more freely.

3 shots on target, 2 goals, with 7 shots off target. But we're playing a back 4 and we're trying, for the attacking problem that has been active for quite some time Potter will also need some time to fix it. Aubameyang scoring from his first shot on target since he came on is promising, maybe he's the poacher that we have been looking for after all.

Beyond that, he started with 4+ attacking minded players.  Chilly was pretty ineffective today but normally offers more going forward also.  I like that shift in approach.

It is a test for him now what he does with Kai and Mason. They were both wasteful, should have had goals each today.

He brings on Pulisic (for Mount) who runs at them and Gallagher (for Havertz) who scores a beauty from that run. Does he start them next game as a reward for that and to show what Mount and Havertz produced was not good enough, or does he stick with them?

I believe it is important he drops Mount and Havertz for CP and Gallagher against Milan.

My prediction is we’ll see 4-3-3c with Gallagher coming in for Mount. Do not see them dropping Kai, although it’s borderline.

Two things:

Our Fear Factor is Gone : - There was a time when teams used to back-off and brace themselves when we used to be chasing a goal towards the backend of the match.. to the contrary yesterday and other matches we have played last 2-3 seasons, teams have felt unpreturbed.. and we have struggled to muster up a response..

Our Players look Unfit : - I dont know if TT was too occupied with the transfer business (and he rightly if so, complained about it); but we look unfit, after 60-70 minutes yesterday a lot of our team looked unfit. Both Kova and Chilly had no legs, Sterling was on empty and so was mount just before his sub.

GP will have to fix these two along with all the other issues around formation and playing style etc. Unless we do that its unlikely we will have any sustained period of success.

It was very difficult for chilly to be effective because he was isolated by himself on that left hand side.

This isn't a Chelsea thing, this is a premier league thing. The norm is to have a low block and counter against the big teams.

What we lack is a defence who can stay focused and not make mistakes.

Despite playing the 4 in defence and extra man in the midfield, thought we had very little control in that area. There were a lot of hopeful long balls from central defenders, maybe it's a sign we will play more direct, but needs to do a lot better than that. We all despise slow side ways football, but just going long and direct for the sake it is just as bad. Defence was way too open, Silva should not be playing in back 4, especially with 2 fullbacks go so high up the pitch, and no DM in front of him. On another day, would have lost the game before the moment of brillance from Auba and Gallagher.

Thought Fofana was way off it , too many mistakes in him couldn't seem to even make a short pass ...odd considering all the hype.

Agreed totally.  I have been complaining about the lack of intensity, sprint energy and general fitness for a long time now. It looks like pre season was another jolly up.

Commentator on German Sky said that we and Crystal Palace were the bottom two teams in the PL this season so far when it comes to distance covered. Explains why we've been looking so lifeless...

I don't go along with those that say it's about quality on the ball. I am convinced that our players look so poor because they do not run enough off the ball and therefore each player takes far too many touches. Look at Potter's Brighton yesterday,  loads of movement off the ball, one or two touch football and Liverpool couldn't live with them.

The difference being when they tired their bench isn't as deep. If we were fitter and as committed half of these players that we deem as sh*t could be perfectly good enough.

Unfortunately it does mean those that cannot maintain that level of tempo and pace and fitness will need to fall by the wayside which, sorry to say, takes out most of our midfield.

Thats because we pass, pass, pass, pass, pass. Where as the ball must travel f**king miles.

also teams were scared when we used to have the ball in the attacking third.. we could score at any time.. even during the worst of times when chasing we could put pressure. .I think its more than that. Under Sarri and TT we were so drilled into playing position football we have forgotten how to be direct which is required at the backed of a match.. to create intensity/increase pace of game/confusion and hocus/pocus..

I think yes our defense isnt great but our attacking play has been even poorer..

Pleased for GP that his PL record at Chelsea starts with a win. Calms the nerves and gives everyone a much needed confidence boost.

Made some good subs which were ultimately the difference in the end.

The team still needs a lot of improvement, but hopefully we see further progress going forward.

On another forum and someone claimed City paid for more than the stated amount though settled through suit cases so no paper or electronic trail.

It would make sense with us allegedly offering £150m the season before he moved.
