Graham Potter (Now Sacked ) - *Official* New (Now Old) Chelsea Manager

Featured Replies

It's not like he went for him. Chelsea did, he supported as he's not a transfer market control freak. Just wants to coach. Patterns, repetition, tactics, drill, drill, drill.

Chelsea didn't waht Haaland as both Dortmund and especially Mino Raiola would have drained us financially. His camp also wanted like eight figures for Haaland's dad. We didn't want to be over a barrel so we went for Lukaku who was much cheaper but still as expensive for the player. Next season Haalands release clause was lower. Cheaper player for them. What doesn't get talked about is the Sheik probably wasn't bothered paying for all those other extras for Mino and Haaland's da. Probably near 8 figures at the least. Roman got money and loads of it but compared to the sheik he's a poor man.

Even Boehly and Clearlake can't come near the normal levels of cash the Sheik has.

It's going to be them against the Saudis when those one's get going.

Bit irrelvant but why on earth did Tuchel choose to go for Lukaku over Haaland? We were champions of europe we could have got him

Pretty certain we couldn't. Way too expensive and he'd have just said no.

I can't believe people still try to blame TT for signing Lukaku ... LOL

He was happy to sign him though, he could have said otherwise or spent the money elsewhere, he wanted a big striker and Haaland wasn't available and he was then fully committed to get Lukaku. So yes, it was Tuchel signing him.

As evidenced by his refusal towards signing Ronaldo. Had TT really not wanted Rom, I don't think we would have signed him.

I think an even better question why would Haaland pick us over city?

I think TT did want Lukaku...

....but comparing the Ronaldo situation is not right. That came under a new ownership early on in their reign. Very different to Roman and the old regime , which was known to simply buy players they wanted, perhaps without the managers blessing.

That did happen, but I dont believe Roman nor Marina would have forced Lukaku on TT if he really did not want him.

It was quite clear from Tuchel interview that he wanted Lukaku. Is Lukaku our 1st choice? that is whole another story.

Every manager wanted Haaland. His dad is an ex-City player so he had only one club in mind. Us and other teams had no chance.

Comparing Haaland to Lukaku seems a bit unnecessary...the other is one of the best players in the world at 20 and the other is a whining man-boy living in Italy.

The difference in their mentality alone is massive.

you might as well compare me to Lukaku, and at 65, 5ft 5ins tall 10 10.5 stone, I reckon I would still probably have the edge over our former "double wardrobe"

Haaland`s career has been mapped since he broke through, he will step up one rung at a time on club level and wages. He will be at City for 2 or 3 years then a bidding war between Barcelona and Madrid to get his services.

Hmmm. City is probably the most competitive of them all if Pep stays.

We can only pray.

Quite surprised we haven’t seen more of a bounce so far.
New manager usually brings new ideas, new energy and a certain eagerness to impress amongst the players but against RB and Palace I could only describe it as a continuation of our struggles under TT despite the late win on Saturday.

Hopefully we see improvement against Milan tomorrow.

In a way I think this is a good sign. I feel we can't just jumpstart and go with that steam through the season only to fall back to old habits next season. Let's build something with patience... sounds nothing like Chelsea FC but we can only hope.

It's because the manager wasn';t the problem, the players are.

I'd be inclined to agree with that.

But if Potter can't improve the players we currently have and deliver the results you'd have to say sacking TT was a bad decision. Because what was the point if Graham going to experience the same kind of problems that Tuchel did?

Because moving forward, Boehly wants footballing people involved in the club. All evidence suggests Tuchel didn't want any outside help with the team. He wanted full control. This makes sense considering his falling out at Mainz, Dortmund, and PSG.

Potter looks to be willing to work with a technical advisor and director of football, which reports suggest they will be heavily involved with the team and operations.
