I think he will play Cucurella at left centre back.

What's he going to do with KK then? or do you think KK and Silva will simply be rotated more often than not.  Silva though is the glue that keeps the defence together

I think he'll rotate KK and TS in the centre, but favour KK, with Fofana on the right.

EDIT: And if he's feeling brave then Chalobah-Fofana-Cucurella.

Either way, I don't think TS will play as much as Potter won't want to build a defence round a soon to be 38 year old when he's embarking on a "5 year project", and especially as Silva, more than any other player in the squad, is "associated" with Tuchel ...

I'm probably completely wrong LOL

I'd feel more at ease with TS in the centre, certainly in the big games and throw KK in for Carabao and FA Cup games as well teams in lower in the league ...but we know how well we have fared against the likes of Leeds / Brentford and Southampton of late.

The concern for me is that he may favour Cucurella over Chillwell when Chillwell is the far better player technically and for getting crosses in.  I guess we'll find out soon enough..

Did Potter play Cucurella at LCB too in his time at Brighton?

As appointments go, I think no matter your personal opinion on Potter, this feels like a big departure from any previous managerial appointment.

We've had 20 years of "win now" appointments, managers with pedigree who have experience succeeding at the top level. (With the exception of RDM who was initially just an interim, and Frank who signed during a transfer ban).

Whether this actually means we're going to see a change in philosophy from the top down is the big question for me. I believe given time Potter can do well at Chelsea. I don't expect him to instantly fix this side though. I'd like to think the new ownership are appointing him knowing full well that this represents a long term commitment to a project, as if they were looking for a quick turnaround surely they'd have sought out someone like Pochettino first?

His initial interview(s) and the length of contract he's given (I've seen it rumoured he's been offered 5 years) are going to be really telling I think.

I believe he played him at LCB against us last season

Welcome to the forum ! A good first post 🙂

5-year deal according to Romano.

This is interesting as all of Abramovich's coaching appointments were offered 3 or 4 year contracts when they first joined except for Di Matteo (when made permanent coach) and Tuchel.

I can recall Mourinho being given a 5-year extension after the 2004/05 season and Ranieri was given an extra 5 years by Bates in 2002.

This just means we have to pay him for 3,5 years after his 18 month anniversary-sacking

That's the doomsday scenario at play.

God forbid we're not here doing this again in 18 months time.

Unless several posters do a complete 180 you already know there will be lots of complaints about Potter from the onset.

Likes to play wingers at wingback.
Sticks to a back three/five formation come hell or high water.
Not great with youth.
Style of football almost identical with Tuchels.

I will support him 100% but unless several admit they are hypocrites they won't.

I actually think Chelsea could be thinking long term with this appointment.

On paper there’s nothing on his CV but he has a lot of admirers within the game.

I just hope the immediate expectations are lowered and he gets time to improve us eventually.

I’m intrigued and looking forward to Saturday’s match now.

he beat Arsenal at the Emirates with a small Swedish club playing 4-4-2

Watching SS and interviewing Jodie at the golf,

‘ look I respect Poch as a manager, but do I want him here with my views as a ChelseA Fan, Nooooooo’!!, loving it JM

Potter feels like Tuchel from Wish.

I genuinely feel like he'll set the team up the exact same way we'll just be far worse in the cups because he isn't tactically as astute and doesn't have the record of managing big players Tuchel had.

Not happy or optimistic about this appointment.

But every new manager deserves support.

So all the best Graham. You're going gl need it with these attacking options.
