Graham Potter (Now Sacked ) - *Official* New (Now Old) Chelsea Manager

Featured Replies

5 year deal seems odd for a manager. Granted we have been giving players 6 and 7 year deals so who knows. I'm excited to see what Graham can get out of these players. If our attack kicks off, that's gotta look bad for Tuchel. Not that he wouldn't still get a chance at another big club, because he will. It would just be interesting to see where his career goes after Chelsea.

Let's see what these Graham Potter Chelsea Blues can do!

But why do it after spending £270m and the transfer window has shut with the season well under way ?  Surely if that was the problem they would of got rid of Tuchel a month ago?

I think that's the biggest mystery in all of this. Would have been easier to let him go as soon as they came or before the season started. I hope there is eventually some transparency from the club.

Absolutely.

Even Tuchel's biggest critics admit this aspect of the departure is baffling.

interesting thread

Chelsea Youth is one of those follows I really enjoy on Twitter. Pretty nuanced takes regarding the club. Obviously more focused on youth, so there may be a little bias in that department. But, their thoughts on football and Chelsea in general are typically worth the follow.

Pretty much confirms a lot of what was reported. Tuchel didn't want to take up a lot of the responsibility that came with the higher amount of control he was offered and that ultimately played a role in his sacking. I'm assuming Potter is willing to take up that responsibility which is why he came with his own transfer specialist.

He always said it from day 1 though.

It was in my opinion his biggest undoing in the transfer market as it meant he couldn't get players onside or even identify the right ones for him in the first place.

As much as I know there's not much talent available for the role right now and Graham P is well regarded (in my opinion a bit hyped due to being British), I think we should have held off changing manager until end of season at least.

And I say that as someone that feels TT has failed to get the best of players like Lukaku, Ziyech, CHO, Werner, Pulisic.......

Damn the list is getting long.

I wonder if there'll be a push from Boehly to get Lukaku back into the side at the end of his loan.

Fair ways down the line obviously, but could be interesting

He may look like a milkman and doesn’t have a sexy foreign name, but underneath the milkman cap is the mind of a genius.  I’m actually looking forward to us playing for the first time since the first game of the season.  Good luck Brian!

I mean Graham

After a massive injury crisis. If Liverpool though like us they would have sacked Klopp 2 seasons ago.

Massive? Was half the team out? Of course not! If we can’t still compete against supposedly lesser teams with 3 players out what chance do we have at full strength against top teams? Pool we’re progressing and still trying to play expansive football, we were doing neither.

It seems they go for a long term approach with giving Potter a 5 year deal. If you are the owner and just wanted try him out you give him a 3year contract and staff stays at Brighton i guess. At least i hope so bit it would be naive to believe it yet.

Really rate the work he has done at Brighton. He has got them playing attractive football on a minimal budget...in reality they are never going to win a trophy. He has though on the back of this earned the right to try his luck at a 'bigger' job. The question is will he one of those who started lowly and achieved higher like many very good coaches or will he shrink under the pressure, like some others have done? Time will tell, good luck Graham.

What manager would like that kind of responsibility? All of their time is taken up with coaching the squad of players they have, where can they find the time for everything else?

As for Potter, he's going to accept anything asked of him if it means he gets to coach a team playing in the Champions League.

"Sky Sports News understands Chelsea have paid Brighton a total of £21.5m in compensation for Potter and the other four members of staff that have followed him to Stamford Bridge.

The 47-year-old will be followed from Brighton to Chelsea by Kyle MacAulay, the recruitment expert that's been with him since his Ostersunds days, assistant head coach Billy Reid, goalkeeper coach Ben Roberts and first-team coach Bjorn Hamberg"

Ferguson and Wenger did, thats what managers are, today we have more 'head coaches' than actual managers.

That’s what he’s was doing in Sweden.  He’s brought half of ABBA with him Benny and Bjorn.

Potter sings I have a dream, take a chance on me,

todd sings Money Money Money, the winner takes it all.
