Graham Potter (Now Sacked ) - *Official* New (Now Old) Chelsea Manager

Featured Replies

I’ve seen enough tonight to feel encouraged about Potter. Yeah it wasn’t a great result but I liked how we played with more urgency and took more risks.

I can imagine with time we’ll finally be decent at attacking. Abit harsh to be slating him after one game, I really didn’t want Tuchel sacked but he’s gone.

Have seen a few pieces popping up on social media on Chelsea fan accounts that a fair amount of the fan base are already against Potter and taking their bitterness about TT sacking and dislike of Todd out on him. Not sure how accurate that is but would be a real shame of true.

Saw the exact same thing happen to Tuchel from people mad about the Lampard sacking to be fair

I really can't see how a tactical change will make the likes of Havertz and Pulsic into world beaters, hope I'm wrong though

The only ones who will be damaged by poor results are Boehly and his consortium. Just remember the Ukraine war, Putin and Roman left us in this position - nothing that can be done now.

Agreed. Tuchel only had to win the big ears to win everyone over. Good luck Potter...

Some marginal improvements, but still too much slow U shaped passing and turning back inside or backwards when wide rather than taking risks. He'll need a bit of time to shift that out of them.

I would say that approach is predicated on having a DM who can cover counters. I look forward to seeing Zakaria in the Jorginho role in coming weeks.

This season is genuinely shaping up to be like Mourinho's when we finished 10th. I think we've won about 6 of our last 16/17 games. It's pretty much relegation form, with no signs of any improvement.

Will we ever give Carney and Casadei a chance in midfield? If we aren't going to win might as well give the kids a chance

It isn't the midfield that's the issue, it's those attackers. Mount, Havertz, Ziyech and Pulisic are all absolutely awful this season.

Havertz was essentially CAM and Mount an 8. They were terrible and if Potter continues to play underperformers like Tuchel then again, zero sympathy on my side.

What was he thinking putting Silva and Azpi on the starting 11. Silva is 38 and has played every minute in PL this season and Azpi is not Azpi anymore. We had Fofana, Koulibaly and Chalubah on the bench so there had been other options available. Let's hope he will learn from this.

Probably going with experience tonight. That seems fairly normal for new coaches.

If you exclude Mount you don't have to say this season.

And Pulisic. He was brilliant during lockdown, but yeah he probably is one of our worst players now.

If we replace Ziyech and Pulisic with adequate players we’ll be sorted.

Yeah I agree, this season's already looking like a write off so might as well build for the long term.

Feels like a big mistake loaning out Hudson Odoi, our attack looked it's best last season when he was fit. Same with Werner, at least his runs would drag defenders out of position.

Take away Mounts goals against the bottom 6 and you can say all of them have been mediocre to be honest, at least for the last 2 years

Who else is there? Hardly like we're dripping with attacking options. This has been an issue since at least Sarri's time here. It started with Pulisic. Then Lampard came and signed Havertz, Werner and Ziyech. All we do is pass down sh*t attackers to the next coach. Tuchel at least brought in Sterling and Auba.

Yup, and we sacked him because he was the problem apparently

Are Zakaria and Broja that sh*t they can't get a game over Mount and Havertz who both have been averaging 3/10 performances all season?

Don't get me started on Azpilicueta at RCB.

I think it's worse, because if we drop that low again, I don't think we have the players to recover. No once in a generation player like Hazard this time, no striker like Costa, no midfielder like Fabregas. There aren't any players in the squad that are anywhere near the level of those players.

I feel like as long as we continue to play a possession based game with this squad, we will continue to struggle. Not enough of the players in the squad are elite passers for their position, especially in the middle of the pitch.

Kovacic, Kante, RLC, all ball carriers.

Gallagher, Mount, both better at pressing and arriving into the box.

Jorginho is a decent playmaker, but his range is poor.

None of them would get a look in at city or bayern.

Then you add Azpi who is at best safe, and tbh lately really poor in possession, plus attackers seem to struggle with the basics, and it's no wonder struggle.

We desperately need a director of football, so we can actually have squad of players suited to the philosophy of football the club wants to play.

Yeah great point, Bought a prime Kante too who made a huge difference. Now we have signed a Juve reject.

I saw absolutely nothing that I hadn't seen many times under Tuchel. That urgency you saw was 10x better against Tottenham. Also, it's the Champions League, there is room to playmore often than not because teams are more open, that is why it may seem like we played with more urgency. Take that same performance into the Premier League and I am certain we lose that game. We still created nothing, we lost control again as soon as we scored, we couldn't adapt to the change of tactics from the opposition. This group isn't learning and I think they are incapable of it.

I don't really blame Potter, even if I do think this job is out of his depth, I just think this group isn't good enough and they can never improve because of the hiring and firing of coaches that we have at this club.

Think it was a poor team selection and couldn't even capitalise on the new manager bounce to beat an inferior side.

Tempo a bit quicker but needs to give the players a bit more structure and most importantly play them in their best positions. No dicking about with positional flexibility now.

Not sure why we set up the way we did. Maybe he was trying to achieve something I couldn't figure out.
