Graham Potter (Now Sacked ) - *Official* New (Now Old) Chelsea Manager

I think Potter, Howe and Dyche have been three of the most overlooked managers in the league for what they've done with the little they had at their disposal. I am surprised Dyche hasn't been snatched up by a decent sized club yet. His style of play may not be a great watch, but he gets results.

Howe is in a good club. I think he has a brilliant path to guide Newcastle to top 6. It will happen in 2-4 years with their money. He also probably works under less pressure.

Dyche is a good manager and I enjoy his persona. However it is so different working in a club fighting for survival or a one you are under scrutiny after one loss. This is the same with Potter. It is very interesting to see how he fares.

At least he knows his name isn't an ideal 'big team' manager name

He has the completely opposite personality to Mourinho.

Downtrodden, passive, submissive, lets hope we can add modesty to that list.

Can’t stand this phrase.

These are buzzwords that you’ve heard ever since Roman arrived at the club.

“Oh, it would be so great if our football was free-flowing” whatever the hell free-flowing even means.

We’ve sacked a quartett of top-class manager in a naive pursuit of this and it’s of course always gone to sh*t. Will it be different this time? Of course not.

Its not hard though is it really. Just run and move off the ball. Don't run with the ball into traffic and make sure that your first thought is to pass forwards. Only pass backwards if it essential and only pass sideways if as a team we can pass forwsards in one or two passes and not six aimless passes along a line whilst a bunch of forward players stand watching with no movement.

It means this.

Or look up Brazil 1970. Not a deep sitting "regista" in sight.

Got to get behind him I suppose, but I am still very disappinted in Tuchel's sacking. I liked him. I thought he'd be here for quite a while.

Did you get behind Rafa? If not then technically you don't have to, you are welcome to voice your discontent.

Drogba1. We all have some doubts and reservations about ANY new manager coming in. Probably moreso now given the events of the last week and the circumstances we are in. And I agree, Tuchel deserved more time. BUT we are hearing from multiple sources that there were some major issues between TT and some of the players and TT and the board.

Will Potter rejuvenate the squad as quickly as Tuchel did when he arrived? No. I really don't think he will. But I don't think it's realistic that we should automatically expect him to either. Different time, different problems. When Tuchel arrived our defence was the big problem. For Potter our tempo and attack is the primary problem. Is Potter the right bloke to solve those problems? Who knows but I think he is as good a candidate as anyone else out there at the moment. Yep, a bit left field. Yep, a bit unconventional in his approach to coaching and man management, (we could perhaps grow to love him for that), and yes, untried at a major club. But he is OUR manager now and I couldn't care less if he is German, Dutch, Australian, Italian, English or a Gorilla in a Pink tutu as long as he has a plan to pull the players together as a team, gives them a system they can understand and execute and which  hopefully, hopefully, gets them playing more free-flowing, expressive, entertaining football.

Yeah that's fair. I admit it's more that I'm bitter that we've sacked Tuchel rather than any negativity towards Potter. When we kick off at Salzburg I'll be 100% behind him.

I still think it's an outrage that Boehly stabbed a manager in the back that stood by us at our lowest point on top of winning the Champions League. The results weren't even that disasterous to justify it.

Tuchel looked like our first chance in ages to really build a long term project and we sack him after a mediocre couple of months with the club in turmoil. What are we going to to with Potter when he inevitably has a bad patch?

That was different.

A face that fits makes a huge difference. He'll no doubt be given as much time and resources as he needs to sort it out. Boehly needs this to work as much as Potter.

Dyche, a bit like big Sam A you could argue, is going to be a victim of his own success and pigeonholed into a “relegation fighter” role.

fully expect him to be on the manager merry go round for the next 5 years

Would be interesting to see how Dyche would do with a decent Premier League side. Guy was working miracles keeping Burnley up with their £2.75 annual transfer budget

Ironically Sam Allardyce finished higher with Everton than Carlo Ancelotti did, despite taking over with them in a relegation fight and not having a pre season

How many times have the majority of the fan base turned on a manager before Roman/Todd have fired them? I recall the Bridge or away fans chanting for a manager or coach to go since the take over by Roman, and often we have been almost fully backing managers and disappointed with their sacking. Claudio, Jose mark 1 and Carlo spring to mind.

Exactly, will people still be this optimistic about Potter if we get knocked out of the CL early or miss out of top 4? Given the state of the squad this year (particularly our midfield) both are very possible unfortunately.

Doesn't matter what we think. It's about Boehly and Co.

Potter's biggest task for me is to create a functioning midfield not reliant on Jorginho.
