Strange one. He was playing like a top class prospect at the beginning. Where has that player gone?

I'm wondering if we were lulled into a false sense of security. When he came into the side he kept it simple, did his job without fuss. A calming influence just by blending in and not standing out. I don't think he has ever done anything particularly well but has been competent. However as mentioned elsewhere since his return from injury (and I don't think the injury has any bearing) his physical inflexibility and  dreadful spatial awareness has left him exposed and highlighted his shortcomings time and time again.

Yeah, if it was just Badiashile struggling I think you could blame it on him. All our defensive players look awful in our setup, which means its more a structural issue than anything else

A reminder of when we thought he was decent

Although I agree, I think in Badiashille's case, he just isn't that good. I know folk will say when he first arrived he looked okay, but that's often the case - players often start okay(ish) and then we see the true player emerge. Maybe the injury has impacted him but he looks well off PL football.

Yes, it could possibly be that he's not good enough but it's just strange how he looked excellent under Potter. Also he's not the only one struggling currently - our entire defence looks dodgy. Even Thiago Silva has been poor this season.

Under Potter, for the most part, our defence was pretty good.

This season they are hopeless.

He didn’t look just ok - he looked like the next coming of VVD or JT. Pity, he looks shot of confidence. 

no he didnt. he looked ok.

I would never go as far as to say Silva has been poor. early in the season, he was still one of our best players. Of course he has slowed down and he has made mistakes, but when all the CB's are fully fit, the only two I would have ahead of Silva are Colwill & Fofana.

That is a massive exaggeration!!

I don't recall he was ever that great last season, he was decent at best. I remember a game against Forest where the opposition target man absolutely tore him apart. For a big guy, he actually struggles in those physical battles. A year on loan in France, hopefully someone will take him from us after a good loan.

With Thiago leaving in the summer and Fofana an unknown, is this even viable? Loaning him back to Ligue 1 will just be the death knell. 

Still only 22 and showed his class last season. I'd keep him out the spotlight for the rest of the season and let him go again injury free from pre-season.

Hmm, you could do that... Or you could bring him on for no reason in the last minute of a game when we're under pressure and defending a set piece.

We've allegedly been linked with Jarrad Branthwaite who does look a far better prospect. I suspect its all clickbait and Badiashile and Colwill will be the two left footed CBs next season.

If his left foot is his good foot, I worry about how bad he is with his right.

Just sign a couple of defenders in their early 20s like we do normally, it will work out😝

Came from the 6th tier of European football, defends like a player from the 6th tier of European football. 

The likes of Chalobah will be sold to pay for these player. What a f**king joke.

Actually looked okay under Potter last season, so as f**king awful as he has been. Not really a big issue for me, pretty cheap back up to Colwill who will probably turn into a competent squad player under a good manager with some clue of how to setup a defensive structure.

Potter knew how to organize a defence. Most games.

Potter had the whole team well organised and towards the end, had us playing some decent stuff. That hadn't translated into results, but the foundations were laid. 

Then we threw the baby away with the bath water.....

Find myself longing for the days of Erland Johnsen, Super Ken Monkou and even Joe McLaughlin. That's how bad Badiashile is. He is dreadful FFS.

He is awful, But I can't say I’m any more impressed by Disasi, neither seem to have anything close to what it takes to be a top center back, read the game terribly, crazy lapses in concentration, in Disasi's case a real lack of pace and what absolutely baffles me is both are terribly in the air, how is that even possible, its like defending 101, head the ball, be dominant. In general I think one of our major issues is we lack dominant headers of of the ball but for another post. Right now those two are at best a mid-table defensive unit and that’s were we are. 

 

We saw with Arsenal until they got their backline right they couldn't crack the top 4. Liverpool when VVD had his recovery season, they Struggled, we will do nothing till we this right, All hopes rest with Colwill and Forfana
