Enzo Fernandez - Officially a Blue!

Let’s see how the rest of the season pans out. We’ve all been critical with how Maresca has been using Enzo in midfield.

Rosenior has been a breath of fresh air with how he’s changed the midfield. Santos is playing in his preferred spot next to Caicedo, and Enzo is roaming on that left channel.

Bar anything crazy, I think we’ll see an improvement.

Because despite the goals and assists this season, he is incredibly erratic and has glaring weaknesses in English football. I have no doubt that in Spain, or any warmer climate, he would be very good, because the conditions make it easier for him. In a warmer climate, players can't play at full intensity for 90+ minutes, which suits Enzo's game really well. We saw it with the CWC. When a game goes through a period where the players need to conserve energy, Enzo can exploit it, but that just doesn't happen in England and he finds himself constantly trying to force himself to make things happen which leads to a lot of mistakes.

It's similar with Casemiro at United. He's older so it's not the best example, but he also struggles with the intensity of English football in similar ways and probably would have been able to prolong his career as a top player had he gone somewhere like Italy instead.

I’m not disagreeing with too much of that.

My point was that I don’t see or hear anything close to the negativity he gets here in the real world. Thankfully I don’t do twitter.

When I chat to fans at games or in the boozer before there is generally a positive opinion of Enzo. Small sample size I know but he normally gets a few chants during the matches too. I’ve only been to six games this season but I’m just saying what I’ve seen and heard.

I’m pretty confident he won’t be with us next season though as there seems to be genuine interest in him. He’ll know himself that the EPL maybe isn’t a league he’s suited to. If Madrid want him they’ll get him and PSG might get involved which could bump the price.

All speculation of course but once everyone is fit I still think he’s the odd one out in our team. His price tag will forever be a millstone around his neck.

Again just to add on to this.

Him playing further forward whilst there's an actual midfield two behind him vs just Caicedo and the endless void, I expect him to be a lot better.

To be fair I don’t remember cursing him at all today.

I thought he had a decent game and I felt he deserved that goal, he put alot of work in, it wasn’t pretty but I can sense he really tried to make a difference.

Usually he would be the worst player on the pitch but my god we had some stinkers today.

He was as horrible as anybody bar Garnacho in the first half. He didn't start the second half well either.

It really shows who understands football and who doesn’t by who is deceived by a single moment, rather than judging an entire 90.

Maybe if you watched football on the pitch a bit more rather than football on a spreadsheet you'd appreciate that he's a game changer for us

Another person who can’t analyse a full 90 rather than moments. Noted and not shocked.

He has instincts in front of goal, it’s useful in moments, and credit where credit is due. I’ve personally already given up on any idea that there could be any kind of of ‘eureka moment’ where the manager/sporting directors realise he can never really work in this team/in the premier league. They’ll die on this hill, the high wages/the crazy fee/vice-captain and effort involved in bringing him here, would be the ultimate loss of face, and it’s simply not happening. Won’t be drinking the cool aid any time soon, but for sure, he’s the face of Chelsea we’re stuck with; just hope there’s more ‘useful’ moments like this despite stinking up the midfield dynamics.

Would it be a loss of face though?

He’s been here for 3 years and will be 3 and a half come the summer. Selling him then for a good fee would be pretty normal practice especially if Madrid come calling.

No face to lose in my opinion.

Now that he's "world class" again after one decent half against a poor West Ham team who are 18th, I'm fully expecting Eghbali to cave into his new agents and make him the best paid player at the club. There is £325K a week to play with from the Sterling "savings" after all !

Lamps was not well liked by our lot when he started here. Fat Frank right.

Enzos best role is playing the exact same role Lamps did for us for many a year. I see that now.

We missed Santos today.

Um is that right?

Fat Frank to West Ham fans iirc. When he came here we were a bit tepid because he was being mis profiled. But he actually bulked up, worked bloody hard on his movement and position and spent hours developing his touch and finishing. Lampard very much was a product of his own creation and is the poster boy for talent pus bloody hard work.

He was never called fat Frank by us, that's just nonsense isn't it.

He was given a tepid welcome as no one really knew how to take the signing, I know I wasn't sure at all, especially for the price.

But by the middle of tge 1st season he was becoming a fan favourite for the effort he put in alone, the quality then started coming through.

To equate Enzo to him after hes been here 3 years is beyond ridiculous.

Said it multiple times- cracking player. The Argentinian Dennis Wise.

I think expectations are higher for him due to the fee - which is why some slate him - but if we look objectively, he is always running his heart out, fighting for the badge, and scores and assists in game changing moments on a pretty regular basis.

If every player in the squad fought like Enzo does for the badge then we would be a decent team.

I feel sorry for this new era fan that have just started following Chelsea that have to idolise players like Enzo and pretend they’re world class when we all got to see Lamps, Maka, Gullit, Zola and actually understand the meaning of the word.

Enzo is probably on par with Steve Sidwell at a push.

Overly harsh - and not comparable in terms of ability or output. For 1, Sidwell had 1 assist, and perhaps 1 goal for us (league cup?).

I think fans just want him to be more consistent over 90+ minutes. It's the main thing lacking from his game, but I don't think he is capable of doing it because his body won't let him.

Well, they won’t, and I’d be flabbergasted if Madrid actually wanted him and they sold the ‘must play 90 mins’ poster boy/leader of dressing room.
