Xabi Alonso: New Chelsea manager wants to keep Enzo Ferna...

New Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso is unveiled at Stamford Bridge and says he wants to keep Enzo Fernandez at the club.

Oh happy days.... I'm just going to keep telling myself that this is a ploy contived between Alonso and the SDs/agents to drive Fernandez's value up.

The SD's strategy to drive values up so far has been to ban the player from entering Cobham and to tell the whole world they're trying to get rid. The ploy you're describing is way too sophisticated for them!

I mean the ball really is in Fernandez' court, all he has to do is work harder and be less sh*t.

He is one of the few in the squad whose performances belie his actual talent, his underperformance is entirely of his own making and attitude. If he can adapt himself to a role that actually benefits the team, rather than one that drives his stat sheet, we will be better for it. Either it will work out for the team or he will get his move away and we get a decent fee.

Assuming this means we play a midfield three and a back four.

That is the only way to make him work. Problem though is he will insist on playing in the front 3, which creates another issue. I don’t think he is compatible with Palmer.

He doesn’t fit in either system if we’re honest. It’s a real shame RM don’t want him.

Could be an headache for the manager next season no matter what he does, shoe horns him in or benches him.

Think our shape is the most important aspect, and I'd expect us to maybe line up something like this with the ball.

Sanchez

James Colwill Hato

Palestra Caicedo Enzo Quenda

Estevao Palmer

Pedro

Enzo pivot, end the season now

Looks okay on paper but his lack of positional awareness and laziness will turn it into a 3-3-3-1.

Won’t be surprised if he insisted/demanded to be played in one of the 2 behind Joao Pedro. Enzo lives for his stats.

Fabregas did it with Conte. Jorginho with Tuchel.

Enzo Fernandez is better than those in every physical aspect. And has a way better workrate as well.

A three at the back system would definitely favour him as one of the two in the pivot as he has a lot of players around him and as long as the two in the number 10 role (Palmer and Estevao) put in the requested defensive work. Which I think they will.

If this Chelsea resembles that hard working Leverkusen team that Alonso built, I am 100% Fernandez will flourish in the pivot.

Fabregas and Jorginho both had discipline and tactical awareness, regardless of their athletic inefficiencies. Enzo Fernandez is not interested in sitting in a two, he'll be running into the box at any opportunity and leaving Caicedo alone. We've seen this play out for 3 years now.

Enzo Fernandez would flourish in Burger King, that is it.

Kind of still hoping that Madrid is open to him if Simeone can blow in his ear.
