Nicolas Jackson - striker

Matip and VVD were class together back in Liverpool's prime?

I thought it was VVD and Gomez when they won the league. It comes down to personal opinion at the end of the day. I've never really rated Matip or Konate tbh, I think konate always looks abit sleepy and lost tbh. Just my opinion it's been Liverpools biggest weakness not having a cb next to VVD, if I was a striker I would always play off Konate. Nothing against Jackson, thought he was good.

Like I said, fair bit of potential. But evident for all to see that his link-up game is just quite far from the required standard. Works fine against a Liverpool that leaves a lot of spaces for the opponents but there's games where this inability to play with the back against the goal is going to be some grim viewing.

Absolute bollocks .. haven’t heard a bigger p pile of trash all evening.. his hold up play was amazing today against two physical players.. you are making stuff up now..

look i like jackson talented kid but i dont think he can be that main guy in the striker position just yet imo we need to buy ivan toney right NOW i know hes not available until january but everyone will be after him by then its better that we go for him now

I understand the thought, but I think you’re underestimating how quickly Jackson could find his feet. He’s a bit raw but he’s already showing more than a lot of ‘proven’ goalscorers have in the past.

The issue would then be that If we’ve pumped another 80m in this window in Toney, we’re left with another very expensive problem to solve.

He did a really good job holding up the ball and battling possession, you don't get that with a false 9. The goal was a bonus, even without it I would still say he had a good game. I'm contend with no more spending this window, let Jackosn\sterling etc work out the combination and see how far it takes us.

He doesn't stop making runs.  I love that his first goal came from taking a chance making a run into the 6 yard box.  Hold up play is very good, and tremendous when running with the ball at or beyond defenders.  He needs more support, as with defenders distracted by other players he will only be more effective.

A fun one to watch - keep going!

We have to buy IMO. We have absolutely no cover for the centre forward role. Anything happens to Jackson and we are back to last season's fiasco with no viable striker.

It's a long time until Nkunku comes back. Broja isn't even getting a spot on the bench and how do we know he will even be the same player after such a horrific injury. And Burstow has looked like he really isn't ready for this level yet in the few occasions he has got on the pitch.

I really don't want us to sign a striker to compete with Broja for the bench spot

We aspire to be a top club again. Broja has had a season where he scored 7 PL goals for Southampton, while looking pretty promising. Then whenever he played for us he still looked very raw (I think he should have gotten more chances though), and now he was injured for almost a year. Nobody knows how he will come back. We really should have better options on the bench than Broja and Burstow, especially with Nkunku out for months. If Jackson gets injured we're fecked.

True, but we’re not getting a forward of the right quality in the market now to be a ‘top’ club so I’d prefer to wait.

We only have one game per week which should help. Come January, if Broja and Jackson are well off it, then I’d like us to chase Ivan Toney personally.

Remember we have Nkunku (I know he can play deeper), Fofana and now Washington to also come into the squad next summer.

I agree, we shouldn't buy somebody just to make up the numbers. I would have liked Kudus, as he can play across the forward line and seems to fit our profile. But that's off the table now. I'm also against somebody like Brennan Johnson or Vlahovic. Either we find somebody good for relatively cheap to provide competition for Broja (an Ugochukwu type player), or we just leave it like it is. Or maybe our newest Brazilian is good enough to stay and provide cover.
