July 27, 20232 yr It's only preseason, but the quality of his play for the goal shouldn't be understated. He was watching Maatsen, not the ball, anticipating the pass in behind. And almost constantly moving, unlike the stationary Lukaku or Havertz who stopped when the ball was played to feet. He dropped deep and turned almost the instant Maatsen received the ball. Of course this is actually fairly basic centre forward play, but it stands out because it has been so utterly absent since Morata's magic run in his debut season. His speed is electric. For him to beat Sven Botman (the fastest CB in the EPL) to the ball, with enough time spare to place a shot despite being a yard behind is absolutely remarkable.

It's lovely to watch, lots of pace and movement. Will be great to see the ball move across the park even a couple of sideways, as long as the move ends up going forward.
July 27, 20232 yr Like him so far. According to the Villareal fans who spoke about him on reddit, he was pants at the start of the season, but towards the end right a purple patch. So it is entirely possible that patch might end and he struggles later in the season, but perhaps not. I think even if he goes through a patch of struggling to score, which will happen, there appears to be enough about his game that he could still be effective bringing others into play and pressuring defences. So i'm happy to go into the season and give him the nod as first choice striker for the time being and see how it pans out.

I don't think the problem is lukaku/kai. I think this is more of system problem. This is the goal. Cassedei has 3 target between the line + Jackson playing almost on the last line, essentially jackson can play like st. In TT 343 kai/Lukaku need to drop as Maatsen and there won't be any st. This is just one simple example under TT Lukaku last line, nobody between the line, Ruben drop to help jorgi Edited July 27, 20232 yr by Bob stark
July 27, 20232 yr We’ve had plenty of strikers recently that have started brightly and then turned to complete sh*te over the season. We could still knock all these good qualities out of him and have a lazy, constantly offside striker who can’t get a shot away let alone hit the target. We are Chelsea.

His work rate, speed, technical ability, positional awareness will have him doing a good job regardless - as you've alluded to. And given the striker options available on the market, I'd also be happy to see him stake a claim. The new recruitment team are really doing a fine job. .

Didn't know he was known for being fast

July 31, 20232 yr After watching against Fulham his ability to run the Channel’s and just stretch teams while holding up the ball we may just have someone Pochettino and mould into and absolute deadly striker
July 31, 20232 yr He's been doing it all pre-season but that little signal he gave Lewis Hall for the run is something we've been missing for years. Lewis had nothing to do, Jackson saw that and made the run and it created a half chance, just slightly over-hit by Lewis but not an easy cross to make in fairness. We've not had that sort of movement since Morata, hopefully, Jackson can finish a lot better.
July 31, 20232 yr Like Drogba he has strength and a physical presence and he also does his share in hassling opponents and closing them down. Defenders hate strikers like that. I hope referees give him the protection he deserves when EPL defenders start kicking lumps out of him to try and stop him turning and running. Certainly more than they gave Drogba when he started out.

August 1, 20232 yr Here’s to hoping he has a Drogba mentality and Pochettino can mould him into a Kane-type of striker.
August 2, 20232 yr Vlahovic was probably my 1st option back when the transfer market window opened. This changed after watching Jackson during these pre-season friendlies. He looks a real talent and it's fair to say he looks ready to lead the line, too. Now there are rumours of a Vlahovic - Lukaku swap and to be completely honest Vlahovic's high wages and his chronic groing issues (which I've only learned of the other day) are a worry and this kind of player is not going to be happy playing second fiddle to a somehow unknown striker. Vlahovic would indeed give Pochettino an extra option as he is a different type of striker compared to Jackson. But at the same time, personally, I'd like to see Jackson lead the lead and develop as the time goes by. The arrival of Vlahovic would bring quality, but extra headaches, too. Plus the rumoured fee of 50M+Lukaku and his high wages seem a bit laughable. There is a reason why PSG and Bayern walked away from any deal. His chronic pain in his groin area seems to be a major problem.
August 3, 20232 yr He is some player, when it clicks he’ll be a monster, Strength of Drogba, picks up ball deep and reminds me of Yaya Toure, so powerful…
August 3, 20232 yr Has already developed an understanding with Nkunku. Thought he got a bit lost amongst bodies in the box last night.

Hes developed an understanding with whichever player hes alongside which is really impressive for one so young, I like how he has no worries about instructing other players on the pitch as well, looks like he could be hugely influential in more than just the way he plays on the pitch.
August 3, 20232 yr He looks quality so far, very exciting. We look like we'll be way less predictable in the final third.

I thought that he could keep the ball well in tight spaces, but he simply didn't do enough off the ball, whether that be tracking back or pressing defenders who had the ball. He's strong and finishes very well, but he's not as dangerous in the air as someone with his height should be.
August 5, 20232 yr Wasn't that impressed v Dortmund tbh and with Nkunku injured we deffo need someone else, hopefully Broja can stake a claim up until the window closes... or Mbappe. 😭
August 5, 20232 yr I think we want this swap with Juve, no doubt in my mind Jackson and Vlahovic can play together. If Pochettino wants him which it has been reported for a while he does then I say go for it. Jackson can play LW or up top on the left in a two striker system with him. It's important to have more quality striker options as we are very short especially if something happens to Nkunku or Jackson. We have to remember we don't know how Broja will be after his injury, pray its not another RLC/CHO situation. A loan could be best for him with regular mins, I'm sure Pochettino will make the right decision.

August 13, 20232 yr What do you do when you're not happy with your £100m Carlton Cole? You buy Carl Cort for £32m. Bloke has a fair bit of potential but if you want top 4 this season, you're going to need something different.
