Djordje Petrovic signs for Chelsea

Featured Replies

Of all the decisions the mob in charge made, shunning Petrovic is the most baffling to me. He's their player, signed according to their model and on their terms. He comes in mid season and does a good job, certainly better than Sanchez. And then all of a sudden he's considered so bad we need to revert back to Sanchez and to sign two keepers cause he's too sh*t to be backup.

They really have no clue what they're doing.

Completely agree. Jorgensen I haven’t seen much of but what I’ve read is he’s the “new model” of comfortable with his feet so I guess makes some amount of sense but to shift petrovic for Sanchez who is woeful when he’s under pressure, is something I can’t get my head around. He was dropped at Brighton because De Zerbi didn’t have faith in him when being pressed with the ball at his feet so for Chelsea to say “this is our number one” is ridiculous.

Boss preferred a younger model over him , that's the only reason I could find🤔 He's more than competent as a number 2 in the current setup, don't think he's on a huge pay or demanding to be number 1. I believe we signed him on the cheap, so the logic could be loan him out, and make a cheeky profit on him and move on.

Sanchez is better than Petrovic with his feet

Sanchez and petrovic both aren’t great with their feet. But as a goalkeeper petrovic is better. There’s a reason why Brighton dropped Sanchez for Steele. We’ve bought 5 goalkeepers for what we could have bought Costa for and the only reason I can see why is if we can sell half of them for 5-10 million pound profit it is good for the books. But goalkeeper is a position where you can only play one player and to get a profit on a player they need to play football.

He didn't "do a good job", he was one of the worst keepers in all the major leagues going by the underlying metric.

Of all the things to critisise the owners for you pick this (something that likely was driven by Maresca more than them aswell).

I'd argue that he had a shambolic defense in front of him. Sure he let in a few soft goals but by and large I'd look elsewhere before blaming him.

I find his case to be a summary of their mindless erratic spending. Hard to see a plan when the players they bring in are kicked to the curb 12 months later.

While I agree that Petro should  ot be our number 1, no way should Sanchez or Jorgensen be either.

We bombed off much nore expensive players signed by Clearlake than Sanchez, does Ben Robert's have so much pull that Sanchez is bullet proof?

Jury is out on Jorgensen so far, albeit I have low expectations.

Clear though that neither Sanchez nor Petrovic are the right stuff, particularly Sanchez. Petrovic had decent numbers in the MLS and what we don't know is whether his poor numbers from last year are the outlier or the norm (and the MLS numbers were the outlier). Suspect he's been found out though by the better attackers in the PL vs MLS.

This becomes irrelevant when you lack composure. Sanchez may be a better passer but I trust Petrovic under pressure with the ball at his feet more than I would Sanchez.

Sanchez made crazy passes but it doesn't matter, Maresca want to play certain way and that require his gk to be on the ball a lot making short passes and that is not Petrovic.

Much prefer Petrovic to Sanchez...

Putting Sanchez in goal is like playing an additional Striker - for the opposition.

In fact maybe we should keep a tally of how many goals he scores this season for the other side before he's, eventually, dropped.

You watched games last season? How many times did Sanchez f**k up with his feet and how many times did Petrovic f**k up.

I know the answer.

If short passes are all that is required then I would say that’s even more reason for Petrovic to start. Sanchez has him beat when it comes to passing range.

Arguing the merits of Sanchez vs Petrovic is all very well, but ultimately pointless as neither is good enough unfortunately.

Let's hope the talent spotting proves better with regard to Jorgensen !

I mean it’s not entirely pointless. One is younger and has more upsides as an actual keeper rather than a midfielder with gloves.

A keeper like a petrovic won’t cost us top 4, Sanchez would.

What upside? He was statiscally down there with 19/20 Kepa.

Maresca want his gk to play short almost all the time.
