Out of the frying pan, and into the fire ... and it's deja vu time for Maresca, all over again LOL

In his own words, Enzo Maresca said: ‘Managing in Italian football is difficult. But I am sure of one thing, I will be back as a manager one day. My family and I loved Parma. My daughter Maia was even born there. I will carry it forever in my heart.

‘I regard my experience as Parma manager as a positive one. By nature, I am a positive person and I take the good out of all my experiences. But I have one regret. I was only starting my managerial adventure when it was ended.

‘We were on the right track, the problem was that we had to try and construct a new team and that takes time. We needed to have the patience and strength to believe in something and over time I am certain we would have succeeded.

‘We were at 17 points after 13 matches – three points from eighth place and with a completely new team. But listen in football, we all make mistakes and so did I. Parma gave me a three-year contract. And when you accept a multi-year contract it’s because there’s a project idea behind it.

‘In those three years, the target was we had to reach Serie A. Nobody ever told me that we should have gone to Serie A in the first season, especially as there were about 15 players arriving at the club.

‘But I repeat, we were definitely on the right track. I can’t say why I was fired. Perhaps they thought with the squad we had, we should have been top of the table. I agree … But just not right away. With a little more time and some corrections, we would have got there.

‘I had identified three signings in January and I am certain we would have made the play-offs. It’s gone now. I look ahead.’

-------------

Italian football journalist Marco DeMicheli told Sky Sports: ‘It was not because of him. The problem at Parma is that they had been relegated and there had been a change of ownership because an American businessman had bought the team.

‘There were a lot of problems, many players coming and going from abroad. It was such a mess.

You couldn't make it up LOL

That (the bold part by the journo) sums it up. Parma have been one of the basket cases of Italian football over the years. Liquidated in the 1960s; folded in the 1980s when the owners, Parmalat, Italy's biggest dairy and food conglomerate, collapsed in a massive fraud scandal. Tangled ownership since. They've been down as far as Serie D. Now American-owned. Five managers since 2020 including Maresca under the Americans.

Welcome to Chelsea, amico.

Each to their own. I am too old now to be arsed watching turgid, boring, sh*t football.

Winning is important, of course it is, but other than winning the final game of a successful boring campaign none of the others are memorable. I still want to be entertained. You say you'd be happy with 38 1-0s but if you were going to the Bridge every home game, paying over £100 a trip to watch 19 systemic boring, drab 1-0 wins it would get old quick. Surely you would crave some level of creativity, some style, some entertainment. As much as we had some train wrecks last season, there were highlights. Frustrating as they were because we didn't win any of them, but Liverpool, Arsenal and man City matches were some of the best that we played all season and yet all three ended up in draws.

Great games we've had this season but all in all it was terrible.

I would happily pay £100 a game for 19 1-0s. It may get boring, but the celebrations at the end would not. We've seen both sides of the coin and for me, winning trumps all. As you said each to their own.

Are you saying we may have overhyped an academy graduate? Nah I'm not having it...

Never.

Although I still maintain it was a travesty that Frank Sinclair, Michael Duberry and Eddie Newton weren't regulars for England. 😂

Enzout!

Positives for me are he's not short, he hasn't grafted his arse hair onto his head Paul McGinley style, he does not resemble a rat, and he has a proper beard.

The board has done well for a change.

This is a proper, neatly trimmed beard:

Our new future ex manager head coach has the 5 day stubble I required. Excellent. For that alone he has my support.

When i said that Neil Shipperley had the attributes to be great one day, this wasn't exactly the great that i meant. :laugh2:

Genuinely i was at the bridge for his home debut and he did look pretty good tbh

Don't give up your day job......Elton John ain't quivering in his boots with that magical piece of song writing. 😂

What about......

Poundland Pep, Poundland Pep

Poundland Pep and his tippy tap crap

Only joking, just a bit of sour grapes 😂 not at losing Enzo, just his lack of loyalty (I know, a short commodity in football)

Seriously tho, I was a bit of a fan of Enzo at the start but the period after Feb when teams had sussed us out and we gave a 15 point lead away was horrendous.... Still playing tippy tappy even though we had wingers with pace.  It took a players meeting without Enzo to get it sorted but it was touch and go.

That's why there's no huge outcry with the Foxes fanbase at Enzo leaving.  With our impending points deduction and restrictions on transfers, we would be fried in the Prem with Enzo.

As a few of your guys have said, you should have the quality to make Maresca's tactics work .....and hopefully you won't be bored out of your minds ..... But don't expect any plan B, there just isn't one.

It's the trimming I object to. If you are attempting to disguise your weak chin by tapping into your anal personaliity you can't manage my club.

Enzo has just let the hair grow and for that he has my support.

We won't win anything with a beardie in charge

I agree but we need to shift some of the dead wood before signing more players.

Lukaku, Kepa, Sterling, Chilwell, Broja etc all need to go.

As for inverted left back - were we perhaps a little quick to bin off young Lewis Hall...? He's a midfield / left back combo by nature...

Maatsen is about to play a Champions League final at 22, we should maybe keep him

The notion that Winstanley and Stewart are a couple of clowns may well be true.  However thinking about it if the squad is perfectly suited to the inverted fullback formation maybe just maybe this is by design and not just luck.  Maybe Poch was reluctant to use it even though all the preparations were put in place for this formation?  Maybe Maresca is the final piece in the puzzle, a manager on the same page?  Maybe just maybe I’m talking bollocks just to convince myself we have a plan and everything is going to be okay.

Where are you going to play Enzo?

Pushes on when either full back inverts next to Caicedo

We have tried pushing Enzo high, not a good idea.

You can push Caicedo up high and enzo low which mean one of Nkunku/Palmer has to play as winger

When you join Chelsea you got to have a clear idea of how to use: Enzo, Caicedo, Mudryk, Nkunku, Fofana and some other big money signings.

The easiest solution by far is to play 343.

Yes we tried pushing Enzo high, but never with the full back inverting, this caused Caicedo to be isolated, and trying to cover the whole midfield. The fact is for all this year Enzo has been below 100%, and there has been no cover when he went forward, so we haven't seen how this can work.

We don't need to push either Enzo or Caicedo high the plan is to pass it around in midfield until the opposition fall asleep

If we want to also go by Leicester under Maresca, it would in fact be Enzo as the holding midfielder and not Caicedo. Enzo would do Winks' role and Caicedo's, Ndidi.
