I Thought he was slow with the subs and surprised he took Neto off. 

Today was poor from him. Taking off Neto is fine but it was too late.

Gameplan was solid, I saw what he tried to do but can't account for bad weather and a blind ref. Not blaming the weather but it was a factor.

Jackson scored at least one of those chances and we'd be singing praises and being worthy to go up against Chelsea of 04/05, 05/06, 09/10, 14/15, 16/17

Hmm.. is chilwell really that bad.. can’t play disasi at RB .. made us easy to defend against .. didn’t need 3 CBs .. didn’t like the team selection.. 

He's been getting everything right of late, but not today. A few weird choices from the start, like playing Sancho. There didn't seem to be any real shape to our game either. Things were clearly off and by half time, he should have been ready to make the changes early.

I hope this isn't a sign of things to come when we don't have Cucurella available. Other managers will be looking at us feeling like there is a possible weakness there. They may be thinking that if they can take Cucurella out of the game, they take out our attack. We need a plan B for that type of situation.

We are lacking a RB, RCB and a Striker, not a CF, shadow striker, target man etc. Just someone who bangs in goals, doesn't matter how, doesn't matter when.

We can live with Sanchez for a year or so

 

Everton are genuinely top 5 in Europe defensively. No need to have swayed opinions. Can’t win them all. 

Like I said in the match thread, you can't win them all. 

One criticism I have with the lineup though is why do we keep persisting with Disasi at RB who offers nothing there whatsoever? Surely we can risk Acheampong? I know he plays mid-week but I think he could've been ready for a game like this.

Only explanation is physicality but regardless I would’ve played Veiga.

I called him going with that back line. Gusto at LB and Disasi RB seemed likely after Gusto was rested and Disasi subbed off vs Shamrock.

Disasi played as the only other choice is Josh, and he would not start him in a game like Everton away unless he had no other option.

Gusto at LB was to counter McNeil, who did not play, and instead was to deal with Harrison. Just as Matesca tried vs Salah.

Maresca said after the game if you don't win you learn. I agree with him.

I think the players can learn a lot from a game like this, as can Marssca. Hopefully they use this lesson well. 

Whilst it’s disappointing not to win, I actually felt this was big test for the young squad. Difficult conditions, tough team who don’t give away many chances, crowd loud. 
 

Last season, we would have lost that but they came through it. You can’t win them all and we don’t need to win them so it’s important we passed this tricky test. 
 

That said, I feel sorry for Everton fans having to watch that dross. Proper one dimensional.  

His post match presser showed why he made such few changes, and used like for like swaps.

He was happy with the result, so did not go more offensive to try and force the win.

Even in our best days, I used to foolishly think we'd go away to Everton and get a routine win, but I was always proven wrong. Maybe with a fully fit Reece James and Fofana next to Colwill and Cucurella at left back, Maresca would have been more courageous, but I think, just like us the fans, he does not put his 100% trust in a defence consisting of Disasi and Tosin and opted for Caicedo and Enzo to sit deep in the pivot most of the time and protect the back line.

In this moment the most important thing is to improve this very young squad, consolidate our top four position and get back to UCL football. This will attract bigger revenue. Being in the UCL means we are negociating the new shirt sponsorship deal on our terms and that equals to a huge contract and an even bigger revenue. The league title discussion was always something nice for televisions and social media to keep news, podcasts, topics active. It would be a monumental fail for such an established and dominant Liverpool side to bottle this title. If we were up against Arsenal, I'd have said we are in the title race and have a big chance to win. But not this year.

He’s 100% correct, we are not the only team who are going to go to goodison park and drop points some will even lose. So good point at Everton

It's that bit I like most about his comments. Acknowledging that things were difficult, but also making a point about needing to add a different way of playing into our game against these types of opposition.

Yes Chilwell is that bad.

Whatever happens this season, so far it's been absolutely fantastic, Maresca has completely transformed us in a short space of time and with a young side.

I love maresca but I hate his stubbornness when it comes to inverting Gusto. We shd just leave Gusto to play RCB and not come into attacking 3rd. Everton was able to double up on palmer and leave Gusto wide open knowing fully well he couldn't hurt them in the attacking 3rd
