There was so much wrong with that game that if I was a Benfica fan, I would be livid to not take anything away from it.

Standout worst moments were Enzo Fernandez throughout, Maresca shuffling the back 4, Garnancho's Hollywood shot (happened every game at United) Gittens (like watching a combination of Bakayoko and Saul) and that terrible music when we scored a goal, it makes us look like a Championship club.

Whatever, take the 3 points, and resume the moaning another day.

Shocking selection.. all strangers on the pitch.. a team that looked a patched up group.. no composure or quality in the final third.. no triangles or patterns of play.. pointless sideways passing.. CBs if bottom half quality and relegation material keeper.. pointless signings and over spending.. don’t understand where this club is going under this management and coach..

Other than that, a good performance ?

You forgot our striker, oh wait he was still sitting on the bench

Yeah, what the hell was that? Only sh*tty provincial town teams in the football league do that. What’s next, some teenagers with a drum?

Own goal was probably our most likely scorer.

Poor performance really, Benfica probably the better team, created more, defended better, but we will take the 3 points.

Really frustrating how often we play the ball back to Sanchez when we are in the attacking half, only to either invite pressure and lose possession, or Sanchez to put the ball out of play.

Aimless, Joyless football.

Another red card, so we will see Tyrique George touch the ball less than 5 times against Ajax in a few weeks.

Garnacho is a winger that cant dribble, hopefully he ends up like Pedro, and just focuses on his attacking movement and scoring goals.

Gittens is worse than Mudryk if we are being honest.

Biggest plus was Badiashille, hopefully can stay fit, as he is probably the best replacement we have have for Colwill, but in all honesty, id be surprised if he stays fit for longer than 4-6 weeks at a time.

This just about sums up my thoughts. Nice one 👍

Just look at this sh*te from Nazar Kinsella on the BBC web site LOL

I'd bet money that he is a paid shill planting propaganda from BlueCo. "Fernandez good, Palmer (and James) bad ... " They must think we are all blind and stupid !

Chelsea analysis: Fernandez leads from front against old club

Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez had a barrage of objects hurled at him from the away end as he was trying to take a corner but eventually had the last laugh against his former side.

The Argentine, 24, led his team out as captain and helped secure a win in the first Champions League match at Stamford Bridge for two-and-a-half years.

Having helped get the ball out wide, Fernandez was lurking to score a tap-in had Rios not turned into his own net in the 18th minute.

It was an example of the World Cup winner's increased goalscoring instinct, adopting those Frank Lampard-style late runs into the box to score three goals this season.

Indeed, Fernandez has been involved in 16 goals in his last 27 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea (seven goals, nine assists), with only Liverpool's Mohamed Salah having a better record among Premier League players.

That final-third impact has been key with star attacker Cole Palmer having suffered patchy form in 2025 before succumbing to a persistent groin injury.

Fernandez has had to be robust and has started all nine of Chelsea's matches in all competitions this season.

That shows the leadership and grit Maresca needs from one of his leaders – as did the fact he was the most fouled player and involved in the most duels on Tuesday night.

Of course, you can see why the Benfica fans would have been so angry at losing him even for a then-British transfer record £107m in 2023. He left just six months after joining from River Plate, and also forced his exit.

He may well be public enemy number one in Lisbon, but he is increasingly winning over the west Londoners, who chanted his name in a much-needed victory.

Spent most of that second half wondering why we just didn’t go out of our way to keep Jackson. Makes no sense that we went into the season with just Delap upfront and then when he got injured we ended up recalling a player from loan who the manager refuses to play. The whole way this club operates is just shambolic.

I thought Enzo played pretty well today, first time this season I've been able to say that.

We won but it’s the same pattern again. We’re a 45 minute team. We got away with it today but a better team would have at least equalised.

He got the win though so that was minimum requirement really.
