Yep, This.  He is still only 28.  We need a CB with experience.  He did leave under bad circumstances though - not clear on all the stories, but there might be some bad blood.

Both Rudiger and Christensen fell foul of the sanctions at the time. Chelsea were banned from contract negotiations so, regardless of whether they wanted to stay or not, their contracts run out. There was no particular bad blood with Christensen.  The issue, which came to light later, was the club paying his father around half a million as a "scout" in order to secure his original signing. Part of Roman's hiding payments off the books strategy.

I don't think it was anything serious, he just wanted a new experience.

Linked with Tel now. Apparently a straight swap, Nkunku for Tel.

Not sure how I feel about this tbh.

We’d never utilise him as a support striker, and he’ll never be able to operate in the left/right central zones due to Palmer. It’s a full gone conclusion now that Nkunku is totally incompatible here, and he isn’t going to be ‘that guy’ we build a squad around. Best he leaves for our sake and his, it just is what it is.

Shaping up to be a busy January

Out:

Disasi

Nkunku

Veiga

Casadei

Chukwuemeka

KDH

In:

Guehi

Tel

Delap

Dorgu

Santos (recall)

Looks like the plan, still leaves some question marks for me, but we will see.

I remember Tel coming off the bench in some Champions League game a year or so ago and thought he looked electric.  Just a small sub appearance so not the best example but I did like what I saw.  If I remember correctly he played more as a striker in that game.  Completely forgot about him since and don’t have a clue what he’s done since.

This could be another Duran/Gordon that everyone hates but turns out to be a great or the next Disatri.

So they signed him from Rennes 2 and a half years ago, and so far this season has 7 appearances, no goals and no assists.

He is only 19yrs to be fair and one of the highest rated youngsters on the planet. Issue is he needs minutes, and lots of them for his development. Personally think he is better off where he is, as Kompany is the type of manager who utilises his bench every game so he gets ample minutes. Here he will be stuck behind Neto & Sancho, and Maresca hates makes subs.

Villa look to be bringing in Malen from Dortmund, who is a forward… now Watkins, Duran & Malen can’t all play at once. Surely we’d have to be sniffing around one of the two aforementioned?

Had nothing to do this as FFP and PSR were introduced in 2011/12 and 2013/14 respectively. It was suggested that Chelsea paid an inducement for Christensen to sign with us, which is illegal (and something we did with Kakuta so had priors).

Of course all top clubs pay inducements to young players and their families, but only some get caught.

Yes to Mathys Tel. One of my favourites youngsters in European football.

Agree but he's the exact same sort of player as Nkunku, given Maresca thinks that sort of player is not a forward then his chances here will be just as limited.
