January 19, 201610 yr the guy is now so sh*t it's a standing joke. Yet there are rumours we want to give him a contract extension?
January 20, 201610 yr Reports saying he will be signing this week, I can't see him being RB for another season pass this one, perhaps he has a future as the experienced CB when JT leaves? But it's been so long since he was a CB. Assuming he won't be sold in the summer, after next season he will have been here for 10 years, a true veteran.

Surely Terry has more in him than Ivanovic has though. Terry at 40 would probably be better than Ivanovic.
January 20, 201610 yr we need to put the final nail in the coffin and let him go already. he is abysmal at rb. yeah he's been a good servant, but he's been utter w**k since last january. Edited January 20, 201610 yr by enigma
January 20, 201610 yr I don't understand this excessive sentimentality towards Ivanovic and last summer towards Cech when it was apparent he was looking for a move to Arsenal from the same club that let Lampard and Cole leave in such an understated way and every year plays the 'will he/won't he' with Terry. Much as we need leadership, I believe there's every chance it will breed resentment if talented youngsters see him holding down a spot despite clearly being past it. I was going to write more but then remembered that the lack of youth game time and lack of vision is already being discussed in other threads.
January 20, 201610 yr Great player for us but he's so past it now. He genuinely costs us games at times.
January 20, 201610 yr You want to start reducing the wage bill? This is the type of contract you start with. Giving aging and underserving players extensions or new contracts is not the road to success.
January 20, 201610 yr No idea what they were thinking, if we are thinking about a square overhaul, this is where you start without causing any dramas. I guess a contract for Matic is coming up next week.
January 21, 201610 yr done and dusted, reeks of favoritism, croneyism, fukwittasism I love Chelsea FC, 40 yrs of going this year, but somethings not right (unless the deal is a pay as u play or has other performance requirement clauses - even then he's a liability now, so how will aging 1more year help his lost cause?) so on the positive side lets hope he's a big character in the dressing room & shows leadership by helping to sort out this mess of being 14th constantly
January 21, 201610 yr He isnt a good leader, the way he attacked Zouma will tell you that. He needs to go, but he wont be let go. He is a liability.
January 21, 201610 yr I would make a comment ...but I won't...other than to say....' I told you so'. Never in a month of Sundays should he ever have been placed in the RWB position; forget all the flash in the pan runs and the odd goal now and then, because they totally paper over the cracks of his inability to play in this position. You need to look at his entire game, slow to get back, leaves gaps the size of Watford behind him, can't cross, drifts inside to the 'D' at every opportunity, blah, blah. I don't totally blame him, I blame the idiot that told him to play there while the player that should be there is playing on the left... rant over
January 21, 201610 yr Agree with all the above, total liability. But Chelseas top advisors know a lot more than us minions do.
January 21, 201610 yr Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic has agreed to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge by one year, sources have told ESPN FC http://www.espn.co.uk/soccer/story/2790462/branislav-ivanovic-agrees-new-chelsea-contract-sources
January 21, 201610 yr Ugh. I know he's been a great player for most of his time here, but it really feels like the right time to move on. He's only getting worse.
January 21, 201610 yr SIlly contract offering to be honest. Has been a fantastic player, but he has deteriorated rapidly in the past couple of seasons. I think there has to be some form of favouritism here.
January 21, 201610 yr IMO Our Lady CEO Is probably thinking cfc can get a transfer fee for him in the summer, rather than letting him go on a free!
January 21, 201610 yr We defo need to have clear out in the summer and sell him along with a shed load of others ! But what mug teams are gonna buy em ? I supposed that's why we pay our top management and board directors loads a dosh, cos they know what they're doing don't they ?! LoL
January 22, 201610 yr What's your point? Well generally the countries that constitute old Yugoslavia are considered Eastern Europe by some obviously not you, the same way Australia and Israel are considered the West I suppose. The difference is The Serbs and the Russians are related by blood. It's just my take on theafonis' comment.
January 22, 201610 yr Sad to see such a loyal and long serving player become the focus of a lot of ire and frustration.

The difference is The Serbs and the Russians are related by blood. It's just my take on theafonis' comment. It's not something to consider. It's a geographical fact. Serbia (and the whole Balkans) is Southeastern Europe. This might help you: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Grossgliederung_Europas.png It's in German but still the best I could find quickly. I still don't understand what's Russia and Serbia both being Slavic countries got to do with this. Culture and DNA do not affect geography. Or do you consider the Czechs Eastern European? What would then that make their southern neighbour, Austria?
