Cesc Fabregas

Featured Replies

Well he certainly wasn't a defensive mudfielder, so I won't be calling it that.

Why didn't he?

And keep it relevant? How is discussing Contes last club sides midfielder compared to his current club sides midfielder not relevant?

OK then Dibble, not defensive, but Holding midfielder******. He would never press high up the pitch, he was more the screen defensively. That wouldn't be Cescs role in our team. They are completely different.

And im talking about keeping it relevant to the thread.

No he wasn't, he simply wasn't any defensive anything. At all. He had a defensive screen in front of him, he was basically a quarter back.

 Complete nonsense again.

Telling me he had absolutely no defensive responsibility? Good god.

Of course he had some responsibility for gods sake, he didn't just step aside and let players through. But he did have a defensive screen for a reason, and defence definitely wasn't the reason he played deep.

we (many) would have thought it would have been wrong to pick fabregas based on talent instead of conte's preferances, and we (many) will think it's wrong that he picks his selection based on his preferences over talent.

fabregas is a supreme talent, but he can't run, can't tackle and is very undisciplined defensively, all traits conte has shown for the past 5 years that he likes. as i've pointed out in a previous post, conte has played with davids and zidane in their primes. he managed a pirlo-vidal-pogba trio and he got completely mediocre parolo and giaccherini to severely outplay two of the best midfield players in the world, busquets and iniesta. the history is on conte's side here...

conte can make mistakes, and maybe this is one. but at least let him try to graft his own team rather than just picking who mourinho and hiddink would have picked.

Well, Conte's decision not to pick him tonight was justified. I hope this doesn't mean he is on the way out though, we still need the numbers in the squad, it's better to have a large squad over a small one. Fabregas and Oscar will just have to share a position.

conte is adaptable, we've seen him use pirlo and we know that his ideas about how to play often haven't calcified this early in the season... but...

already it looks bad for fabregas.

he physically is not capable of playing the way oscar did today, and even when we needed a goal he didn't get off the bench. that could be instructive.

Conte made the right call, playing Cesc instead of Matic would leave too much to do for Kante on debut. If he was going to play, it's for Oscar's point. Having said that, Oscar was decent too. I think he would have come on if it was 1:0 with 10 to go, but not when chasing the win. He didn't play, so what, did all Jose's big signings play yesterday?

Generally agree, but I'm not sure that Fabregas is the sort of player you would call on when a goal is needed over wingers/strikers. Yes, he can provide assists but he's more effective for controlling the game and creating chances when the tempo is still relatively slow, not for a 15 minute stint where we're mainly playing long balls into the wingers or forwards. As such, I wouldn't read too much into that.

Going to reserve my judgement on this one until we've had 5-6 games. He's too talented for Conte to not have a long, hard look at.

Chelsea missed Fab's vision and creativity tonight and didn't create any clear cut chances. There's no other player in the squad who can pick a pass like him and not even coming on when the score was 1-1 and having Moses and Pedro picked over you is not a good sign.

Lets be serious, Oscar is always good when we get a new manager, he done it with Mourinho & Mata was off... Then we got the normal Oscar back.

If we lost Fab over him again, I pray he actually learns to be consistent but at 25 in a month, I think it's probably a little late for him to suddenly achieve that.

I had a look through the match day thread as I missed the game last night and a fair few people were saying we didn't create chances but Conte was right not to play Cesc.

Surely Cesc is the precise answer to that issue? No one else in our team can play a killer ball like him, not even Hazard.

that lack of chances almost cost us 2 points despite dominating most of the ball (from what I read on here)

I'm not saying Conte got it wrong of I'm moaning (as some on here will try to say), just food for thought from what I read.

I agree.

If we sold Cesc we would need to replace him because we have a lack of creativity in the middle without him. No one else can link up with Costa like Cesc does as we have seen time and time again.

It would be daft to sell him IMO.

Different position now though. Could make a difference.

Not really, you can have him at the base of your midfield with Matic & Kante protecting him (ala Pirlo). Oscar is too inconsistent & even on his game, he will run & tackle all day but creates very little. Willian just runs & gets the basics wrong. Pedro/Moses/Cuadrado offer very little. Going into the season with only Hazard as the creative outlet will be nuts, teams will just put 2/3 players on him.

I would be gutted if we lost Fab and kept Oscar. Fab has proven how good of a player he is for many years now. If you need someone to create something out of nothing Fab is your man, specially when teams really sit back.

if Chelsea are going to keep Costa up front I think it helps his game to have Fab in the team.

You can say these players offer very little Moses never given a chance Pedro on his day is very good Cuadrado one of Juventus best players last season Oscar is inconsistent but if Conte gets his consistent we have a fantastic player on our hands Willian is very creative i dont get this narrative against him... Cesc is our best creative player but the manager may not see him in our plans whether you agree or not support the manager.

If Conte chooses to move him on I will be fine with that as i trust him granted we would lose a great player but life goes on we still have a brilliant squad which will only get better after yesterdays win

Even if Oscar had a consistent season, he still doesn't have the pass Fabregas has.

I think at home it should be Cesc for Matic and away it should be Cesc for Oscar
