Willian

Featured Replies

One idea I have had in recent times was simply to buy Werner as a wing forward (can play decently on both feet) and sub him on when we're counterattacking. He'll be absolutely lethal against tiring defenders with his extreme pace.

That being said, doubt it will happen because Werner no doubt wants to play as a CF.

good game today from William. Puzzling why we brought Moses on

Willian ran out of gas and had three very bad giveaways in the second half. Lucky it didn’t cost us a goal. It’s one of the reasons he’s so much more effective as a sub, because he’s not pacing himself like he does as a starter.

Solid effort, but that position is manned so well when 90 minutes are split between William and Pedro.

I thought he was pants. Funny how differently fans can view the same performance.

Wasn't on the same wavelength of those around him and in the second half gave the ball away on three or four occasions in our own half inviting a lot of pressure on us and on one occasion gifted Liverpool a glorious chance to equalise.

I don’t think he’s clicked with Sarri’s system personally and only an injury to Pedro has allowed him so much game time.

Agree he had that terrible giveaway and if not for a brilliant save from Kepa would have equalized.  But I guess my point is no matter what way you look at it, Moses came on and was worse.  Willian got us out of tricky situations plenty (especially first half) and was very creative.  As far as a creative outlet for us he's our second best player on the ball and is needed in close games and tight spaces.  Moses comes on and tries to take on players but stumbles over his own two feet/backheels it to no one.

If Willian was tired, that is another thing.  I agree regarding Pedro.  I think Pedro suits the playstyle much better and sharing the position between the two is very important to our success going forward.

Basically Willian isn't very good & Moses is even worse. We knew this at the start of the season so a season of mediocrity with the replacements it is. We did spend a lot of money this summer though so you can understand why someone wasn't brought in but hopefully there's $$$ available and not just from the sale of Hazard next summer.

The big fear I had about the summer was that we turned down €50M for Willian. We did spend without selling for the most part, unlike the summer prior where we just traded experience for youth, but that 50 would have gone a long way towards getting younger and better.

I would have loved to have cashed in on Willian if his stock was really that high. Frankly I set my mental price on him at €30M LAST year. At a year older, 50 seemed too good to be true. So it probably was.

All sizzle, no steak.

You dont want to pick CHO fine, be that way. But honestly we would score far more goals and be far more threatening if we put emerson in the back 4 and put Alonso up to instead of Willian.

The last 3 games by Willian have been unacceptable, he just isn't a player you can rely on, I knew as soon as Pedro was out Willian would be putting in 5/10 performances.

Knew you'd join me on the Willian agenda soon enough

I still like him, I think he's a very good squad player. My opinion on him being unreliable has always been the same, right now Willian has no competition, he's nailed on a starter and he's never performed well when that has been the case. We see excellent performances from him when he's competing for his place, we need Pedro back asap.

This is exactly what pisses me off about him. Pedro has had an awesome start to the season, Willian now had a chance to show that he's just as worthy of that place as Pedro is, and instead he f**ks around putting in average performances as if there's no pressure on him. I really don't understand what goes through his head.

Pants again tonight.

Bad shooting, poor decisions, rubbish set pieces.

Thankfully Pedro is back now.

He did get an assist though...

At many times of trying?

He got to take about 20 corners and free kicks tonight with none leading to a decent goal scoring chance.

He kept giving the ball away or killing off attacking moves all night. Of the front three tonight he’s on a run of five consecutive starts. Pedro is coming back from injury and Morata is out of form and short on confidence so Willian is the one who should be taking control of the game... but he doesn’t, it’s all just so blurgh!

I won’t let the ball bouncing off of his afro overshadow such an underwhelming performance (again).

Poor. Willian on the left should be cutting in more and trying shots, but he seemed to constantly try take on his man despite having a sh*t left foot.

But if the ball hasn’t bounced off his Afro we could be sitting here discussing how we drew 0-0 with Hungary’s finest. Nobody else has the foresight to grow an Afro and assist with it.

Pedro and William kept discussing in every corner. My take is that Pedro wanted short corners an William kept telling him to piss off as he wanted to see if he could cross it even worse than before. He didn’t dare to discuss corners once Hazard came on.
