January 31, 201610 yr IF it's true, I'd rather this happen quite soon after last season's success, and a few years from Munich etc; I think he will not be far from the pitch. He must be retained within the real world of footie, he is too good to sit on a tv couch alongside those who spout tripe.
January 31, 201610 yr Not surprised, this is a poorly run club, has been for some time. Terry will always be a captain leader and legend though and I know for sure that he won't do a Frank (with all due respect) and join another English club.
January 31, 201610 yr On another note, who knows if Ivan and Cahill will be here next season and if they are, how many games they will play, how many leaders do we have? Plus, how many English players in the first eleven?
January 31, 201610 yr I'm completely stunned. It's what the board does though, the same happened with Frank.
January 31, 201610 yr The very thought of Zouma and Cahill in the heart of our defence will keep me awake at night. Surely we have a big name lined up for summer? Edited January 31, 201610 yr by Blueblur
January 31, 201610 yr Wtf? Theres still half the season left and we are still in the CL. Ok, i do know we dont have much chance in the CL, but Terry deserves to see the end of it. Just proves that we still have morons running the club.
January 31, 201610 yr It's what the board does though, the same happened with Frank. Random rumour, he supported Jose. Oh do one! Here we go, soap opera time for the press...
January 31, 201610 yr The very thought of Zouma and Cahill in the heart of our defence will keep me awake at night. Surely we have a big name lined up for summer? Cahill mainly. I've said before, he's uneven, when he's good he's great, but unpredictable.
January 31, 201610 yr Terrible decision. His performances have been good and i cannot understand why this decision has been made. I hope the club have really thought about this and have a plan. He absolutely has to be moved into a coaching role if he wants to retire. Bad enough having Lamps helping out City. We treat our club legends appallingly..we really do.
January 31, 201610 yr Devastating ! Why release this now also when the tram are getting back to their best ?
January 31, 201610 yr The board call the shots, we get called classless but their decisions don't remotely reelect fans opinions, or even the managers half the time, because they don't ever listen to anyone. Stick them in charge and let them pick the team, because they don't think they can do any wrong, now Fabregas will be made captain I guess, I know who I'd go with, but they'd consider it too controversial. I think it's about time fans let the decision makers know how we fell. Edited January 31, 201610 yr by Floyd25
January 31, 201610 yr Gutted by this news. I still think he is the best CB at the club, yes he is getting older and he was never the quickest but his defensive reading of the game had been excellent for a number of years now. I would still give him a new contract, I am sure he knows he would not be guaranteed a starting role but he would be anexcellent squad player for a couple more years and his experience and knowledge of the club would be integral in helping new players adapt. I honestly believe there has been a split in the camp with JM and JT would have been one of the few that would have stood with Jose. I just feel that we have lost too many players that were part of what CFC was and we have not replaced them, Cech, Lamps, Essien, JT, Drogba, we now have players that would hand in a transfer request at the drop of a hat
January 31, 201610 yr I don't think it's a question of class- ultimately this is a 35 year old who is out of contract announcing he won't be staying. that's fine- but unless as others have said the next manager is making this decision is seems a very strange an arbitrary call particularly with ivanovic getting a new deal.
January 31, 201610 yr Players get to a certain age and the board members throw their hands up and go legend or not, fu*k him and usually there's no real reason to it, just age and there's no explanation made, or much of a tribute, that's a lack of class to me. All the fans can do now is protest and hope we change their mind.
January 31, 201610 yr Petr Cech Ashley Cole Frank Lampard Didier Drogba John Terry All gone within 4 years.

This is the thing. When I first heard this news a short time ago, my first thought was is our new Manager lined up and they are talking to him and he has said he wants to start afresh and JT isn't in his plans. If that's the case - fair enough. But if we don't have a new Manager lined up yet and it is the board who have made this decision, then you just have to shake your head in disbelief and add it to a long list of f**k-ups. Sure, we all knew the day was looming and if it wasn't this season it would be next, but the timing and way it has been handled and announced is shocking. Just hope we can go on to lift some silverware and give a fitting send off to an absolute LEGEND.

JT made the announcement, he could've kept it to himself, my guess is he is hoping a reaction from the fans might make the club do a u turn. The club have let him know early enough so he can make plans for the future.
January 31, 201610 yr Petr Cech Ashley Cole Frank Lampard Didier Drogba John Terry All gone within 4 years. Bound to happen at some point. The list of trophies that lot have won is too long to type on my phone. We couldnt have asked for better players than them
January 31, 201610 yr Sigh - seems the club have played another blinder here. Deary me. I'm reading he heard first from his agent on the phone and not face to face. Brilliant. That's gratitude for you. One silver lining, though very small - at least we will get to say thanks and goodbye, something we were never afforded with Frank. Edited January 31, 201610 yr by bjd

That's gratitude for you. One silver lining, though very small - at least we will get to say thanks and goodbye, something we were never afforded with Frank. Just in from a walk, and cleared the head a little. This was the one thing I said to my wife that was the silver lining...we can plan for his send of, something we didn't get to do with Frank. Yep, Dan Levene was all over the fact that this came about from a phone call. However, I don't think it's as callous as it sounds. The agent called to see in January (something that Terry said they always did) and he was told that it was a no. Not, as some seem to be taking it, that the club called his agent to tell him over the phone.
January 31, 201610 yr Sure I agree Scott, however you'd have thought the club would choose to give the news to their most decorated player ever face to face. After all this is JT here, not just any another player. Maybe I'm just being romantic , I don't know. Clearly that's not how these things work.
