August 8, 201411 yr at least we dont have to hear any more whining about the ACON On the contrary, we get to get rid of Mikel for a month.
August 8, 201411 yr Welcome back to Chelsea Didier I'm not sure if this is the right signing for the club, but nevertheless it's great to see him back where he belongs. Drogba's role this season will be being the back-up to Diego Costa so don't expect too much from the great man but if he can snag five or ten goals this season I think it's a great outcome. He's already cemented himself into legendary status here so there should be no pressure for him to perform extremely well and to be the number one striker. I hope Drogba's hard-working attitude rubs off with the other players and his presence around the place will life the side as a whole. Recently I heard John Terry reveal that Drogba's presence, experience and winning mentality has resonated with young and impressionable CB Kurt Zouma. I love hearing that and also Didier's presence in itself is worth re-signing him for a season at the very least for those who may have doubted signing him two weeks ago.Very happy to see him back! I must admit I never thought this would happen!
August 8, 201411 yr Drogba's role this season will be being the back-up to Diego Costa so don't expect too much from the great man but if he can snag five or ten goals this season I think it's a great outcome. This is a really important point, and one that others have made to. I would much rather have Drogba on the bench, and in the dressing room, than many of the non-starting strikers at our rival clubs (i.e. Lambert, Welbeck, Hernandez, Borini, Sanogo). On a less pragmatic and more emotive note, I'm delighted to see Drogba back at the club. When he joined Chelsea I was in my early-teens, which makes him one of the first legendary players that I can really remember watching right from the start of his Chelsea career. He was my favourite player during those 8 years, and I will never forget the 2007 FA Cup Final. Drogba gathered everybody around for a team talk before the game - according to John Terry: "Didier called everyone together before the game for a huddle for a speech," revealed Terry. "It was a great speech before the game. "He just said, 'I'm nervous, everybody's nervous, we're all feeling the same but one thing's for sure, we're going to fight and give everything for every player.' And as he did that he looked everyone in the eye and he touched quite a lot of people and it did us a lot of good. "I didn't know he was going to do that, he just called everyone together and said he was going to fight no matter what, and you just can't ask for more than that." August 8, 201411 yr I admit i havent been watching him play in turkey, and its still too early too judge him, but he doesnt look good enough to contribute. I wont be surprised if Torres end the season with more goals than Drogba
August 8, 201411 yr Hate to echo the sentiment, but he looks miles below par for a second striker. Whilst I value his off the pitch contribution, another striker is absolutely vital.
August 8, 201411 yr I admit i havent been watching him play in turkey, and its still too early too judge him, but he doesnt look good enough to contribute. I wont be surprised if Torres end the season with more goals than Drogba He was average last season and it is bound to get worse in a faster paced league, I don't understand Jose's thinking when he was banging on about City having Jovetic's quality as 4th choice, just makes you wonder.
August 8, 201411 yr Jose bringing DD back was probably the final straw for Lukaku ... I know who I'd rather have ...
August 8, 201411 yr I wonder whether its back into the market, Jose gave him a good 50- 60 mins tonight, at the expense of Torres, probably hoping his form with fitness will return, hmmm not so sure!!
August 8, 201411 yr He hasn't looked great at all in the minutes he's had. Even at World Cup and towards the end of last season he looked a bit meh. Love he guy and a absolute legend but he's simply too old these days, we need another striker we just can't rely on only Costa it's suicide.
August 8, 201411 yr I think getting rid of Demba was a mistake, it should have been Torres going even though it's easier said than done. Ba wasn't a great footballer but he offered variety and was absolutely deadly in the air with his feet. Whereas Torres offers little as we all know and with Drogba looking a bit rusty to it maybe a wise choice to bring in another forward before we start the season. I'm not saying put in a bid for Edinson Cavani like actually get a useful second striker because Torres will let this club down as he has done over the years and I think Drogba will only be useful in certain games and a few games. I'm also thinking about a worst case scenario also, think if Costa got injured, we would be royally f**ked.
August 8, 201411 yr While I understand some of the concern about Didier, he's here now and way too early to be writing him off...he's always been a big game player so judging him on some poxy friendliest when he's not match fit yet, is a tad premature to say the least Edited August 8, 201411 yr by The Brit
August 8, 201411 yr Hmm not going by what I seen last year and English football is much quicker than the Turkish league. Just his mere presence on the pitch will have clubs worried and that distraction knowing Drogba can beat them will allow others to get open. He may not get a ton of goals or assists but the Drogba Affect will be in effect.

We all know what followed: I had this photo as my screen saver for a few months afterward. It was taken from high up and on the other side of the pitch. Chelsea in the corner celebrating and had the whole side of the new Wembley including the scoreboard that read Chelsea 1 Manchester United 0. Different note: Drogba blew by Rio "Jigsaw puzzle" Ferdinand and of course Rio comes up lame with an injury after the goal is scored. F**cking C**nt! Edited August 8, 201411 yr by DoubleHelix
August 8, 201411 yr His hold up play was decent though, as I said in another thread, him holding it up and making space for Schurrle to run on to as a second striker could be lethal.
August 9, 201411 yr You all look into pre-season far too much in my opinion. But you do need some kind of barometer of form, say like if Costa had looked rubbish in pre season, we'd all be saying, "Ahh knew he was rubbish, or he isn't going to cut it here"......
August 9, 201411 yr But you do need some kind of barometer of form, say like if Costa had looked rubbish in pre season, we'd all be saying, "Ahh knew he was rubbish, or he isn't going to cut it here"...... Well, a fair few will but as someone who actually waits until the real games start I wouldn't, thus making my "you all look into pre-season too much" statement even more valid
August 11, 201411 yr And bang out he is for a few months it seems. Such a silly move to come back. He almost embarrassed himself with the few performances this pre season and now he can recover from an injury and we still have the problem of a lack of a striker.
August 11, 201411 yr Not a good sign that he couldnt weight-bear on his ankle. Hopefully not too serious though. Drogbas 100 PL Club is also on at 3 oclock on sky sports one for anyone interested
August 11, 201411 yr He's out for 2 weeks so will miss the Burnley game (not likely he would have played, anyway).

If this is the strikeforce we start the season with, then we should have just kept Ba. A prime Ba as a #2 striker would be more useful to us than a Drogba who will turn 37 during the season.
August 11, 201411 yr From skysports: Veteran striker Didier Drogba is a fitness doubt for Chelsea's Premier League opener against Burnley after limping off in a 2-1 victory over Ferencvaros. The Ivory Coast forward, 36, suffered the injury and was withdrawn after 28 minutes of the match in Hungary. He said: "I twisted my ankle and I couldn’t continue. In the next few days we are going to do some treatment and I hope everything will be better."
