November 5, 201411 yr In the space of 3 days, Two of England's previous best clubs have found new ways of lowering their footballing standards to levels we never thought we'd see, United by getting beat by their 'small noisy neighbours' 1-0 and finding miniscule positives within the game to hold onto and to use as some sort of moral victory and for Liverpool, The European Juggernaut to go to the Bernabeu, Avoid a pasting despite spending £120 million in the summer and find it again as some sort of moral victory despite in defeat. I bet somewhere in their luxury mansions, Roman and Sheikh Mansour are puffing on a cigar, each having a cheeky chuckle to themselves.
November 5, 201411 yr On ESPN FC out here in the States, our old mate Craig Burley was, for once, ripping into the UK media for this. Saying that it was nonsense, and hopefully anyone with half a brain wouldn't understand where this was coming from. He also then ripped into Rogers claiming him to be a "spin doctor" also he slammed van Gaal & isn't buying the so-call revival that manure are having. Then again Burley is Scottish & wasn't too pleased on how his fellow countryman Moyes was shipped out. He is always reminding people that Moyes did better under manure so far than van Gaal, but the fans are not burning cars in the street or flying banners over ole crapfort like they did when Moyes was in charge.
November 5, 201411 yr For a club, fans and manager that harp on about history and their supposed class, tonight was a disgrace as far as Liverpool were concerned..raising white flag and giving up? Not seen chelsea ever do that in the cl...if they can't handle it, perhaps they're best out do the competition again..might get their wish in next few weeks
November 5, 201411 yr RAWK Meltdown @RAWK_Meltdown · 2h2 hours ago Much rather f**k up Chelsea's season than win tonight and get to the next stage. Shows how pathetic they are, they hate other teams more than they like their own.

November 5, 201411 yr Arsenal are such a joke and they're lucky that Sanchez plays for them otherwise they're very ordinary. Liverpool just proved to everyone that they're not cut out for the Champions League. It's quite ironic that they worked so hard to get there and now they've given up just for the sake of wanting to beat us Saturday. Hopefully karma is a bitch and we crush them!
November 5, 201411 yr I quite like all this 'Moral'Victory' talk. Once again little Dulwich Hamlet are shown to be a trendsetter.
November 5, 201411 yr Well I hope you're right but I'll still be watching from behind the sofa. My usual spot.
November 5, 201411 yr Rawk's hate for us is amazing. They constantly go on about us being a nothing club, no history, that we try desperately to be relevant but no one cares, yet talk about us nearly as much as they do about the mancs........ I would say the obsession here is almost just as bad. Edited November 5, 201411 yr by Zola
November 5, 201411 yr Arsenal making life difficult for themselves again, you have to try and finish top of your group in the Champions League because it avoids so many of the better teams. Looking mentally fragile once again Arsenal.
November 5, 201411 yr Responding to comments made by Gary Lineker suggesting Liverpool's starting line up was an admission of defeat Brendan Rogers said: "I respect his opinion but I think the words were played out by my team. The performance was far from throwing the white towel in. Right to the very end my players put in a performance befitting of the wonderful club this is. That would be my answer." So a performance befitting of the wonderful club is losing one? Eh?
November 5, 201411 yr I love Arsenal Fan TV when they lose, to be honest, I don't think proper Arsenal fans are that delusional, they know how bad they are defensively.

So a performance befitting of the wonderful club is losing one? Eh? Couldn't believe it last night. At 1-0 with about 30 minutes to go I went and had a shower and shave, chatted to the Mrs for a bit and had a drink. Turned on ITV and the game was over but they were interviewing Lallana and from what was being said, I thought "f**k me, they must have come back and got a result". Then they go back to the pundits and they were all making positive comments about the result which re-affirmed that. Only for the scoreline to come up 1-0!!! Talk about putting an OTT positive spin on a defeat!
November 5, 201411 yr I thought Liverpool were pathetic. There has been enough said about the team selection, although Sterling and Henderson were really the only players on the bench good enough to start as Gerrard, Balotelli and Johnson are all sh*t and they're better off without them. But the fact that Liverpool never even went for it, it was 1-0 for ages and I was waiting at 70 minutes, 75 minutes, 80, 85, just waiting for Liverpool to really throw everything forward and go for the equalizer because Real were there for the taking, whether they lose 1-0 or 2-0 makes no bloody difference but I thought it was pathetic to see a supposedly big club settle for a 1-0 away win. I regret watching the Liverpool game over the Arsenal one as it was horrendous, but I wonder if Brenda noticed how much more solid Liverpool are defensively with Can/Lucas playing instead of Gerrard, if he had any sense Gerrard wouldn't be starting any more games this season.
November 5, 201411 yr What exactly did Linekar say? When Liverpool's team was announced, Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker said: "Rodgers has left out [Jordan] Henderson, Sterling, [Mario] Balotelli, Gerrard and [Philippe] Coutinho at Real Madrid. He has, though, thrown in a white towel. "Selecting a weakened side in Europe's premier competition, especially against Real Madrid, is unbefitting of a club of Liverpool's stature. If I were one of Liverpool's star players, I'd be choked to be left out of a game at the Bernabeu against the European champions." Couldn't believe it last night. The amount of positive spin from ITV was borderline embarrassing, Clive Tyldesley wouldn't have a bad word said last night, he proclaimed in the first half it was "far from one sided" despite Liverpool failing to muster a single shot on goal and Real being 1-0 up and with about 10 other shots on target. He kept referring to the "firepower" Liverpool had on the bench, this a side that has no premier league goal from their strikers in 900 minutes of football and is managing just over a goal a game in the league so far. It was a cowardly move by Rodgers last night but for whatever reason the ITV guys didn't want to call it like it was.
November 5, 201411 yr If you're going to pick a defensive team & play on the counter, it helps if you can a) defend b) counter attack But...................... Setting a team up like that is easy right!!
November 5, 201411 yr Real madrid had something like 26 attempts and 9 on target, liverpool had something like 8/9 attempts and 0 on target, and real had 60% of the possession to liverpool's 40%. Liverpool were outplayed by a real side that wasn't even intent on hurting them. Liverpool got played off the park, but had moments where they had good possession, but ultimately real could have easily had at least 3 more goals without trying. The quicker this scouse delusion comes to a halt, the better; however the only way that is going to happen is if they get relegated, and even then i'm not sure the delusion from the media and their own fans will stop. November 5, 201411 yr If it was someone like Fulham getting a 0-1 defeat in Madrid and putting in that performance then I could understand the reaction. But I thought Liverpool were a "big club"????????? Edited November 5, 201411 yr by Zeta Orionis
November 5, 201411 yr Isn't it funny how the mighty have fallen off their perch? Last season Liverpool fans were bending over backwards to let everyone know that they play football the correct way and that anyone else is playing anti-football, and that the sole purpose of football was to score as many goals as possible and anyone setting out to defend was sh*t. Fast forward a few months and Liverpool park the bus for an entire 90 minutes, even in the last 20 minutes when they should have been chasing the game, and then their fans are all delighted that they only lost 1-0 while only having 1 shot on target the entire game, calling it their best performance of the season and Brenda a genius.
November 5, 201411 yr It was a moral victory though nibs, and that's the best kind of victory. Other than you know, an actual victory.
